Hey there guys,

Yeah, I'm just a shock trooper but I'm working towards master... 2/0/4/0...

Anyways, you guys have any tips or advice for usage of commando skills in PvP? I've dueled a few people with the flamer and gotten mixed results; guess this might be obvious but it owns in unbuffed ranged duels for me and also obviously isn't good vs. teras kasi/mbrawler blah blah blah.

But, do you guys have tips/strategies? I would love to hear them, maybe get some experience in before getting back to the master grind. Any hope for the future of the PvP-ing commando? Thanks in advance =)

Currently Commando isn't very reliable for PvP unless you are facing a Melee opponent without good KD strategies or possibilities...Against Melee opponents it typically comes down to who get's luckier with their first shot...

For PvP we tend to rely on our dabbled skills (to get ranged specials and defenses) otherwise a Ranged player just kites us to death or a Melee player (like TK) just keeps us on our backs until we are dead...If you are serious about wanting to play PvP, I'd look at adding Rifleman and/or Pistoleer to you Commando Template...maybe even a combo of Pistoleer/Smuggler to make the most use of our Launcher Pistol and fend of those ranged kiters, while being able to kite melee opponents in return if need be (keeping out of KD range)...

As for the Future...From what I've seen in the Combat Upgrade docs, we have a bright PvP future as does most Combat Professions...PvP will be going to more of a tactics format instead of who hasthe best template+weapon+armor...Every player should be able to win a fight and every player should be beatable...Each profession will have a strength, but also a weakness...it's all about how you set things up and if you are prepared for what you face...Cryptic enough for you? LOL

Anyway, to answer your question in a brief format...Now = Bad...Coming Up = Good!!!

Rule #1: Expect to be killed first

Rule #2: Act as support if you're using commando skills...not worth it trying toe to toe with anyone

Rule #3 (optional): Dont put your Commando Title up.

Rule #4 (optional): Use non-commando specials with the LP

Just to name a few...

Well, I was in Bestine running all over those IMP when two overts kinda attacked me and a fellow guildie. My guildie, being new, I told him to run away while I stalled time for him (I know I'm so nice ). Anyhoo, I started my flame macro and proceeded to take down the wrong guy (he had some pistoleer and wasn't very good at it). If his buddy (a Rifleman/MCM) hadn't been there, my flame DoTs would've gotten to him. Got some nasty wounds after that fight, lol. Basically it all depends on how fast your flamer is (3.3 spd right here, baby!!.....and NO krayt tissues, either :smileytongue, and how knowledgable of your prof you are. When you PvP as much as some of us do, you kow what fights you can win, survive for a certain amount of time in, and which ones you will get your head and arse handed to you EVERY SINGLE TIME . I say stick with it because there is no greater joy than having an IMP send ya a /tell saying how bad those burns were.....

By the way I'm a regular Master Commando/ TKM/ Novice Medic

I'm master teras kasi/0040 commando 0044 pistols, 2000 medic.

I do very well in pvp. pvp rating is 1500+ and thats okayconsidering most of my dmg is done from the flame dot, and i average +1 rating per kill (bug garvin?)

nothing like fan shot on turrets/atst's to get the party started, im using a 370dmg LP for that it works very well.

Rocket launcher speed mods are glitched. (novice and master fire at the same rate)

Heavy particle beam cannon speed mods seem over active, at 0400 you should be able to fire these at near speed cap.

PVE thermal detonators generally do the most dmg because of the medium ap dmg bonus

PVP protons work very well. with powerup and a nice dmg slice these get as high as 4800 dmg and can realy take a chunk out of a KD'ed jedi.

2 biggest lessons a commando can learn...

Flame dot's dont stack /wink

and

Fire DoT damage is directly connected with battle fatigue. a target with 500 bf hit with a 100 power fire dot weapon will tick for 200. or with 1000 bf 400. This applies to our flamethrowers and is the reason it appears to stack up over time.

now go kick some @$#

I think the amount you get has to do with the rating of the person you kill. When I was 1600+ I can't remember getting more than +5 per kill, and I'd loseabout 30 with a death, depending on who I was fighting of course.

For PvP, I don't even think about using grenades unless there's a jedi. Even then force armor, food, and our poor accuracy makes them nearly useless.

Don't forget about intimidate1 and warcry1 from novice brawler. There is not much strategy involved when your a one trick pony Command. Here is my PvP strategy, Iuse this macro,

/intimidate1;

/flamesingle2;

/ui action toolbarSlotXX;(the button I have the stim B in

acklay enhancement only works on C22, cryoban and glop

and healing each flame2 is a huge waste of combatcycles imo, you should at least intimidate manually so you can stack exactly two. use warcry for healing, resticking intimidates and /aim /flamessingle2

Thanks again for your posts guys =)

Being a new commando is a mixed bag. It's a pyro's dream, but it doesn't perform as well as I hoped in toe-to-toe brawls. Guess you're right, maybe I'll be better on the open battlefield one day (if they ever decide to open them up!)

Thanks =)

you should only fear jedi and Cm's (if you don't have good resist buffs)
