You need to be a master marksman, unarmed IV and have 40,000 combat xp to become a novice commando.

No and Yes (if you are referring to Rifle in the Marksman tree)

You only need master Unarmed from the brawler tree.

Pre-req's for Novice Commando are:

Master Marksman (all "light" weapon types ie Rifle, Carbine, Pistol+ Master Ranged weapon support)

Master Unarmed Brawler

40k Combat xp to become Novice Commando

That's it.

Then Why is there and link from master marksman to commando? Why do you need two masters to get there? I only needed master scout to get to novice ranger. I don't get why Commando requires 2 masters?

...

It requires Master marksman. That's all 4 branches of the marksman tree + the Master marksman skill.

It also requires master unarmed brawler. That's just the 4 boxes in the unarmed branch, not another whole tree to master.

Sorry I'm at work and not explaining my self well.. I understand what master marksman is, master skills ect. But why do you have to have master brawler and master marksman to get to one elite skill? I only had to master scout to get to novice ranger. I want to go to commando but I don't see what unarmed combat has to do with commando when the commando skills are for range weps. I didnt want to drop ranger to add Commando.

You DONT need to be a MASTER BRAWLER. You ONLY need the UNARMED BRANCH of Brawler. So you get novice Brawler, then do the 4 levels of UNARMED. You DONT need 1H Sword, 2H Sword or Polearm.

Tomaric,

You have to be a Master Marksman and a UA Specialist because that is what is Required.

Why is it required?

Well, It's a matter of using Character points.

Certain Classes WILL be more powerful than others. This is why SOE says you cannot compare class to class.

For Novice Pistoleer, it requires 35 Skill points. Same for Master Ranger.

However, Commandos are a Hybrid Elite class, as are Bounty Hunters, as are Combat Medics.

Commandos Require 142 Skill points to get to Novice Commando.

Same for Combat Medics.

Bounty Hunters require 160 Skill points to become Bounty Hunters.

So, Why is not equal?

Well, for these Elite classes to be more powerful, you have to give something up, what you give up is Character Skill points. This makes your character more Specialized because you can do much less with it.

A Master Pistoleer can be a Master Doctor. A Character with these 2 masteries are the best Healers in the game, as well as the best (or one of them) pistol users in the game. Or Pistoleer/Creature Handler. Once again, being just a Pistoleer allowed them to expend all those extra points on being able to have very good pets.

So, who does Commandos need Unarmed? To take up extra points. A Master Commando cannot become a Master Doctor. Infact, a Master Commando cannot master any other profession that does not require a Prereq that is shared with Commando (Rifleman, Pistoleer, Carbiner, Smuggler, or TKA)

Folks like BH's cannot master any other profession period.

For this Specialization, the class (or one would hope) would be very powerful and very specialized. Commandos and BH's cannot do as much as other classes can, because they burn through most of their points, but in trade off, what they are supposed to do well, they should do much better than anyone else.

Currently, Commandos are pretty weak however, and pretty..well..Gimped.

Why cause rifle and unarmed at those leves are the hardest expericence to get.

Rifleman on one server, Smuggler on an other.

You need two branches for Commando because it is a Hybrid class, not an elite class.

when I was grinding to unarmed 4 I asked the same question, now that I am grinding the 40k combat exp- I honestly could care less. Combat exp sucks

Don't forget commando weapons are point-blank range! They have to be adept at getting beat up to survive a rocket launcher blast
