Thread: Bayonets?

Since the 75% PvP damage reduction affects the slow firing rifleman more than any other proffesion due to the lack of defense if an opponent gets close, I'd like to see a skill introduced similar to the pistoleer's Pistol whip skill. Perhaps two skills could be added:

The first skill could be one that is a melee knockdown that does a small to moderate amount of damage to the target's mind pool. This special move would essentially be the rifleman using the rifle's stock to hit the enemy in the head at close range.

The other skill would be a bayonett thrust to the target's chest. This attack would not have a knock down component, but would do serious damage the the health pool of the target, though not as much as the pistoleer's body shot 3. Certain fast rifles, such as the spraystick, should not be able to use the bayonet special.

Both of these specials should havehealth and action be their primary costs, given the high mind costs of upper end rifles.

Bayonets could also possibly be used as an optional component in the construction of a rifle.

How does all this sound to you guys?

So in other words you want to excell at long range and close up?

Intelligent fighting > Commando....which is why Commando > 95% of SWG players.

In what way do we excel at long range?

Of course, you could just take some Novice Brawler skills in the 2-Handed Sword category, like I did. It surprises the heck out of anything that closes with me.

Or you could just take pistoleer instead of rifle and be better off while spending fewer skill points.

Heh, I wouldn't mind haveing a Bayonett. The only problem I have is that it wouldn't look right on the guns!

I was thinking there should be something to reflect the Brawler part of Commando and the idea of a "Bayonet Attack/Defense" poped in my head. It would be something that goes with the idea of a Commando, deadly at range and close up. Now I am not real big on trying tothink upgame mechanics so if any one has any thoughts or ideas I would like to hear them.

/bump, I like the idea... In a previous post I saw someone say something like riflebut as well... At least give the commando a reason for having the first 4 boxes of unarmed.

it is a great idea...but if you think about it, a bayonet wont do much damage in hand to hand, chances are is that you will be up against a swordsman/tkm/fencer or a pikeman and get pizwned

There are always draw backs to each proffession, the bayonet has to have draw backs. it is just a suggestion not a statement that will happen.
