Thread: we dropped the ball
I assure you, they've seen far worse flaming from professions with far less reason to be skeptical.
When they gather information like this, they generally don't even pay attention to the flames. They're expected and ignored rightfully. The constructive posts are kept and passed on to whoever wants them.

i felt the need to throw this out as a reminder:
recently we had a visit from the DEVs, who actually seemed to show concern for the state of our profession.
never mind that they didnt seem to be aware of our condition. never mind that they were gathering population data while seemingly ignoring stern.
that was the first time we've had a constructive message from the DEVs since about April of '04 if my memory serves.
so what do we do as commandos?
WE FLAME THEM FOR SHOWING UP? WE CRITICIZE THEIR GATHERING PROCESSES? WE INSULT THEIR WORK ETHIC???
what were we thinking? If they didnt want to work on commando before, theyre a darn sight less willing to do it now, and i wouldnt be surprised if they pushed us back to get fixes after the crafters.
did we never hear the story of the prodigal son? If someone you're really mad atsuddenly walks back into your home, you welcome them back in with open arms! we should have been overjoyed to see a red name starting a thread.
once we welcome them back, and they give our profession the technical attention that it so badly needs, THEN, if you want to, you can complain about how long and dificult the whole process was.
I know there are alot of mad people out there, but Ive been a commando since '03 and ive never once even contemplated leaving this profession. when they finally do fix it, it will have been worth the wait. if you are so mad about the state of the profession that you are willing to impede the process of fixing it, maybe this isnt the profession for you.
Look to the senior members of the community. you dont see Ryu or Stern flipping out about the questions the DEVs ask. theyre trying to be as helpful as possible, because they know how fickle the system is.
In short, the next time we feel the need to open our mouths and bite the hand that feeds, lets stop and think about it before we write anything, and plan our words VERY carefully.
Helios spent a lot of time reading through good posts before the flames started and there is a consensus we want AOE fixed. We want specials. We want Grenades to work. We want on unarmed tree or at best or at least something viable that makes having it useful.
Trust me he got the point.
We didn't drop anything. It was dropped 2 years ago, and noone picked it up and ran with it since.
THE DEV-GUYS WORKING ON THE GAME BY NOW COULD UNDER NO CICUMSTANCES HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DEVELOP THE SWG GAME!
I bet the original SWG-Developer team has gone for long and there now is a basic-service-support-maintenance-team screwing the game!
The game has been way better some years ago. I came back when the cu arrived after i took a break of almost a year and i found my profession to be crap and the whole game world fu**ed up! If they go on like this there will be no part of the game without significant game-logic errors, a universe as far off the star wars universe like the world of warcraft game and a jedi to non-jedi ratio of 10:1 in the near future.
I CANT STAND THAT NEWBIE-TEAM FIDDLING WITH THE GAMES SOURCE CODE AND SCREWING IT ALL UP, I CAN DO IT BETTER!
THEY ARE TOTALLY INCOMPETENT AND INCAPABLE OF DOING THEIR JOBS! LET THE ORIGINAL SWG-DEV TEAM TAKE A LOOK AT THE GAME AND FIX IT - I AM SURE THEY CAN DO IT!
oh and i'm not whining ... i play eve-online and just take a peak into swg from time to time to roleplay some events and check the state of the commando profession ...
stand it commandos we are almost there ...
It would be the same if the Devs told smugglers they had to buy an expansion pack in order to smuggler, or Rangers to be able to use traps on NPCs and so on. It's something that should be part of the core profession. Get our role to where it should be in the core game, then let the expansions build off on that with new quests, weapons, and the like.
I have brought this up in the Corro forums, both points actually.

Well...some of the resentment and flames did get out of hand, but I do strongly agree with the sentiment that we shouldn't have to buy an expansion in order to get a badly needed "boost" to damage.

I appreciate it StarNick and I tried to stay under control. If you have seen some of rants... I BEHAVED this time. Still for crying out loud that was almost as bad as the Tuesday Tip for the "Secret Smuggler Handshake."

you know that you don't have to but the expation to get the weapion i have a account without JTL and ROTw and still can ues loot drops from kash. and did the dev says that all of the new items can be craftable. so have a friend who has it to get the items. and also some of the loot from ROTW are more powerful then most of the items craftable.
I don't think anyone disagrees there. In fact, as far asI am concerned we still have a huge hole in our single target damage dealing capability. The Proton Rifle is an expansion based loot weapon also. I wonder how the Jedi community would respond to a Commando centric expansion that held fixes for them, so that they could wait for Commandos to run out and get lightsaber components in order to make them viable if they didn't feel like forking over 25 bucks for Commando contentwith some saber components tossed in. My guess would be none too amused.

Very true,
However the core damage dealing *should* already be there and not need to be made viable via an expansion. That core damage needs to be accessible easily by -anyone- who takes up the profession regardless if they do or do not own ToW.
For those commandos that will not have ToW, those who are new, or those who simply won't buy the expansion...the very idea that they will have to get a friend to do mustufar quests, and give them the new ToW Heavy Weapons indirectly in order to produce better damage or something equilvent to a "5", in itself says there is something wrong with the picture. At least, that's my opinion.

i havent seen a single 'personal' attack against a dev as of yet. The flaming is directed to them as a whole.
To use you analogya; if i go to a fast food restaurant, order a burger and fries, pay for it and im told to go the next window....
next window asks me for another payment and tells me my ceasars salad (which i didnt order)will be delivered on the next window...
on the next window im told to fork over more money and given my soda..but no burger as of yet...
I wait there for half an hour until finallythemanager pops his head out thewindow and says 'oh you ordered food?' (aka 'oh aoe is broken??') and tells me not to worry, in 15 more minutes, if i supersize my order, he'll make sure my burger will be there... with fries. For sure.
Thats SOE running a fast food joint.
"I think that all of us can offer positive, constructive feedback that will help make this game better" Welcome to 2 years ago.
"especially if they are willing and able to listen." for 2 years they have listened and done squat. Would you keep talking to wall?
