Lately, it has seemed that there is roughly 12-15 people ACTIVELY posting in the Commando Forums. Maybe you guys have friends on your servers that are Commandos, but dont post of the forums. I encourage you guys to get out and let whatever Commandos you see to start being active on the forums. I fear that when a red name does stick his head in here, that the lack of movement on the boards may be misconstrued as a contentment with the profession...

Ok. sounds good. I'll contact a couple of other commandos in the guild to try to get them over here.

I think part of the reason we don't see a lot of posters is because we have a HUGE number of lurkers...a lot of Commandos have said what they feel they need to say and are waiting for the Combat Upgrade to either make or break us...It's hard to have a good discussion of our issues when most people don't know what are issues will be thanks to the CU...For example, we could argue tons of pros and cons regarding fixing the HAR, but what if the HAR is being removed? What if the HAR is being converted to something else? Or even, what if the HAR is being fixed in such a way that it will compete evenly with the FlameThrower for our attention...there is just to much unknown at this point...
That's why I'm pushing hard for TH to release some more info regarding the CU and it's specifics...Not just because I feel you all deserve to know, but also because it would give us something to talk about...We could fully discuss the issues in such a way that we'd be better prepared when you all get into Beta instead of having a few days of "initial shock" over the changes...I would help give everyone time to accept the changes and even possibly come up with better ideas that might yet make it into the CU...
In the meantime I've tried to start and participate in a lot of different discussions that could or could not have anything to do with the CU (problem is that just about anything I say is often taken as a CU hint)...I've also tried to post some generic hints to get the ideas/thoughts flowing and those threads have actually spawned more ideas that I was able to take back to the Devs/Programmers...
So to be honest (and long-winded), I think we still have a big audience, but everyday, more and more of them are just becoming lurkers...and besides that, most of the biggest posters I stole and took with me to the Combat Upgrade Forum as Sandbox Testers...they are all quite active over there...

I've also said that I TOTALLY disagree with the Dev decision to keep mum about the CU many many times. Too many in fact. heh. Well, I do have some hope that they'll finally start talking. The most recent FF said:
"Once we have all of our documentation in place with details of the changes that will be made, these will be posted to the public for review. "
I don't know how long this will take but they should post the CU docs (and clearly write that this is ALL subject to change) sooner rather than later. They're really turning alot of people off by keeping quite. Just as damaging as over promising and under delivering.

Yup.. not much to talk about since everything gets pushed back to "wait for the CU"... so that's what we're doing.. lurking and waiting.

One of the worst parts is that I could probably easily revamp both our Commando Guide and our Top 5 based on what I know coming from the Combat Upgrade...if you all had the same knowledge, we could be discussing our post-CU strategy, focusing on the things we will still need revamped/fixed...
Don't get me wrong though...there are some docs that need extra special attention when they are presented, and honestly, the best way to be introduced to them is in an evironment where you can read the Programmers direct responses to questions and ask questions of those more familiar...Also, there is a lot of things that still don't fully make sense yet and HAS to be seen on the Sandbox before we'll fully understand the Devs intention...Several flame and rant wars have already occured on the CU forums over issues where the only response the Devs could really give were "you just have to wait to actually SEE how we are getting it to work"...
But at the same time, there ARE docs that I feel are completely straight foward and presentable in their current state as long as folks know they are "subject to change"...Any confussion or issues with these docs can and should be addressed by the Correspondents...It should be my job (in my mind) to help you all better understand the reasons behind some of the bigger changes and how it will make our lives as Commandos that much better...
The Devs have decided on a gameplan for the Docs though...For the most part, they will become available to people as they enter the Beta...TH and other will try to pass along info publically though before then, but I doubt we'll see much of that until January (I feel like we've entered a sort of quiet time of year where many communications may have been prepared well ahead of time and wouldn't reflect the more recent changes some of the CU info has gone through). Personally I don't agree with that gameplan, but I also don't run their company and I don't know everything they do about their reasons, so it's hard to judge them...All I can do is keep pushing for them to release the info and demonstrate (by showing you all off constantly) how reasonable and accepting the public will be to the new ideas coming via the CU...Just be reviewing our recent discussion regarding changes that might be in the CU and other ideas, the Devs should get a sense that what ever they post publically will be reviewed with a completely open mind and we'll be thankful for it...sure, there will always be ranters, flamers and trolls who will hate change, but as long as we don't give into those type of people, it'll all be good...
Anyway...again I go off on one of my long-winded posts...just know this if anything else, I will keep pushing for any scrap of info I can get the Devs to release regarding the CU and long for the day when I won't have to push anymore...One of the best things that has come out ofour Sandbox testers all getting access to the Docs is that I now have people I can talk with who understand how hard it's been to sit on all this info for so long...

I just want a Beta invite so bad because like you said Garvin, only 6-7 people from each proffesion, and not where anyone can see them, can intelligently discuss anything.

You gave me a thought, garvin.
why not take the list of our current commando issues, and process it in accordance with what you cant say about the CU/R/B?
so it would work something like this:
issue: HAR- broken weapon
Garvin: i cant say anything about what will happen to the HAR
issue: weapons speed
Garvin: i cant talk about improving the weapons speed.
Issue: Launcher pistol
Garvin: i have nothing to say here.
it doesnt seem like alot, but it might give some people hope

Here's a crazy idea... Garvin why don't you and the testers write up a FF (if you have the time) of information that you believe would be helpful and not put the devs in a spot if things were changed. Submit it to TH and Tyrant and see if you could get them to agree and post it. Its a long shot but .... maybe.... /crossfingers

Actually that's a GREAT idea. I would love to see this happen. Who knows if they would go for it, but it would be nice.
