Thread: Acid Rifles
As I am coming near the end of my quest to become a Master Commando, I thought that I may try and get myself an Acid Rifle. I know about the current problems with the Acid Rifle tree and how none of the modifiers stack thus making Acid Rifles I and IV have the same power. But I just wanted to do it for fun.
I searched all over the Bloodfin server for a decent Acid Rifle. I wasn't really looking for damage stats, because we all know that it will do plenty of damage in one shot (that actually hits). I was hoping to find a gun with some nice speed. The fastest I was able to find had a speed of 5.1.
Yikes! I won't even consider buying a flamethrower unless it has a speed of 3.6 or less. But I figured what the hell, I'll buy it.
Man does it look cool. I ran around town carrying it like I was a bad-ass commando. It sounds just like a flamethrower, yet sprays green goo. How cool is that? Of course, waiting 15 seconds between uses and missing 3/10 times wasn't the great at all.
Then it hit me as to why I was unable to find an Acid Rifle with a decent speed: No one is going to invest in building an uber Acid Rifle if no one is able to use it to its maximum potential.
And I think that's the saddest part about the Commando line right now. I could even deal with the silly 2.5x melee modifier, if Acid Rifles actually worked.
In a perfect SWG world,our diverse range of weapon types and the damage types those weapons do are useful in almost every situation. How many times have we encountered killer mobs that have resistance to viturally everything, but only vunerability to Acid? Or how about blast? Or Electricity?
No matter what the thing is, we're the one in the group who can hurt it.
I shall end my rant and dream of a day when I can use an Acid Rifle with a decent speed and actually be effective with it.
its a shame isnt it? for all the complaints about the acid rifle i LOVE the look of it and when you need to use acid dmg its great. find a speed sliced one and that'll help some. but the box is very borked atm.
however its kinda priceless to have a gun that looks like something they used in men in black 
OMG I never realized that! Now if only they made it a shiny silver instead of white...

Has anyone seen an unsliced Acid Rifle with a faster speed than 5.1? Is possible to get any lower? Any weaponsmith's know if Acid Rifles could be as good as some of the uber-flamethrowers out there (2.7-3.6 speed)?

Flamethrowers with speeds lower than 4 sec are fairly rare, or using only the absolute highest possible resources..... They aren't normal is the bottom line. Normal is in the 4 - 5 spd range unsliced.
Acid rifles using comparable resources are faster than flamethrowers.
FYI
buy a beam rifle.. has the same graphic as the acid, but it shoots little red bolts of light. See the Riflemen go green with envy.
Then of course, they buy one and notice their amazing headshot3 does 30pnts of damage. *evil grin*
nice pic too btw, submit it to SOE for pic of the month. That wookie's fur coloring and clothings with the tree behind him gives it the 'camouflage' feel.. as if a wook with a big arse rifle just came out of the foilage and stared at you.
