Thread: I would like to take up Garibaldi's sword...
While I consider his fervor admirable, and he will be missed, I think it's about time plan for the next steps despite the current dip in morale.
That said, I feel driven to replace Garibaldi and champion the Commando cause.
I've been a Novice Commando on Tarquinas for at least a month now, probably longer, and am privy to a server with a near-worst state for Commandos.
We have no resources to make the weapons that do work (I use the term "work" loosely), no working certifications for the weapons that we can make, and every single Commando on the server is frozen at Novice. Most have moved on to other professions, and at best they're hanging on to Novice in the hopes that something might change. Many more have dumped the profession altogether.
More background...
I'm a 24 year old Interaction Designer at a wireless/telecommunications company, and majored in Journalism/New Media whilst at college. I consider myself well-spoken, articulate, and a no-nonsense person. I play things straight, get right to the point, and pride myself on building relationships. I've actually written collegiate-level papers on Internet community building and video game design.
I have the time, motiviation and tenacity that it seems this position will require, and while I haven't been an aggressive poster in this forum (few here and there; I read more than anything else), I've maintained a keen interest in our profession and its laundry list of problems.
For many of you on servers with better weapon availability, I would look to you all to provide more detailed assessments of ongoing issues. For those of us without the luxury of equipment, I can provide first hand accounts but will welcome (and encourage) additional feedback. I, like you, have a strong sense of identity and ownership of this profession, and am incredibly frustrated at the current state of affairs. That frustration, however, provides astrongimpetus to get this stuff fixed and drive hard out concerns to the development staff. If they can't or won't listen, we'll just yell louder.
Here are a few initiatives that I would like to pursue, in addition to the issues and work that I will carry on from Garibaldi's efforts:
1) Establish rapport with a single or multiple individuals on the community or development staff that can provide support for our profession from the inside. I consider it a mistake to not have a dedicated player of each profession on their design team, and this solution will be the next best thing. I'm not looking for preferential treatment, just a consistent ear who will make the effort to understand us.
2) Create a formal bug/issue submission framework. I will create a dedicated e-mail address for you all to submit any ongoing concerns or new discoveries to me. After compiling them on a weekly basis, I will maintain a post on this board that indexes all the major issues, plus highlights other problems that merit further investigation. I would also like to use this as a respository for suggestions and vision-casting on future plans for the Commando.
I hope this all comes out right for you all - I know it's been a rocky road. I am very confident that we can achieve results, and I consider myself just the Novice Commando for the job. If you all have any questions or want further information, please reply to this thread, or contact me at [email protected]

Jason Falcone

In my mind you already failed to meet the qualifications for correspondent as you didn't read the directions. Their is a forum post by Q-3PO that clearly states how to apply for correspondent. Sorry buddy, you don't cut it.
No.
You have been on the boards for less than a month and have a post count of 33.
Not good enough.

I will stand behind anyone who can get the job done and listen to the community. If you honestly think you can make a change that Garibaldi could not, then I will be more then happy to listen to you as a correspondent.
As for selecting a new correspondent, I'm not sure if that still applies as I'm sure they have not had this problem before. I assume it would be a good idea to send this letter to them first though, at that address. I hope that their Community Relations guy helps more though as he can focus on the worst problems and directly relate them to the people who can change it.
My tenure as a rather broken Commando has gone longer than my time on the board, and while I wil admit that I've been a quiet observer, that doesn't negate my ability to understand, synthesize, and communicate (and hopefully resolve) our profession issues.
Anyone here would admit that being on this board and being on this board 3 weeks ago would yield the same list of issues, the same frustrations, and ultimately the same impression of our sub-community and class. Nothing has changed in that time, so me being here today is no different than me being here a month ago.
We've been broken all along.
That said,I've been no stranger to the anger and lost time that making a Commando yields. As stated, it was my profession of choice and I achieved Novice status in shortly under2 weeks. Since then I've been squatting on the profession in the hopes that it would be remedied, or at least patched to the point of playability, with no such luck. I'm looking to become the changes that I wish to see, and I hope you all can help me do that.

I was under the impression that you had to use a Station account to play SWG. This leads me to believe you've been playing for approximately 3 weeks.
mmmm... I had to re-apply for an account here and also an account for chat on the luncher. I don't think you can use the date he made an account on the forums as the date he started playing.
your background doesnt matter. what does matter is can you test and point out with clear evidence ALL of the currentcommando issues.
Your introductory should list all the problems you see, and how you are going to present them to SOE in representation of the commando class. we dont care about anything else and neither does SOE.
