Thread: Is the 2.5x Modifier Intentional?

I read and reread the patch notes. I did not see this changed mentioned anywhere.

Q-3PO posted and said

We've got a huge list of Update Notes today. As you play, please let us know if you feel any of the notes are not accurate or if some change is missing.

We have no intentions of Stealth Nerfs. Sometimes we miss something and sometimes a new bug is introduced.

For example, in this update there is talk that Harvester maintenance and power consumption has doubled. This is not intended and we will investigate. If this is true, then it is a bug and we will get it fixed as soon as we can.

My question is now was this intentional or is it a bug?

In the history of swg it has been extremely rare for anything to be said about commandos in the update notes they give us, but things still get changed. In my oppinion, there is no way that this is a bug, im sure it was intentional. The Devs have always beenshady when it comes to commando, and I doubt it will change.

There's another post from Holocron which reads...

Rolancor wrote:

Basically... I think another oversight was made in the patch notes, or whoever played around with making heavy weapons into close-up ranged weapons didn't understand the damage modifiers of melee against ranged users.

Interesting, Rolancor. I've got an email out to the combat designer asking.

hmmm, last I saw you jackasses could fire mindshot 3 for 500 mind damage in PvP from 65m away, we can't do squat that compares to that from 65m away.

Sure, just convince the target to stand still for about 20 seconds (if we dont miss that is) and we can... and last time I saw, you could one shot anybody from 16 meters and in, "we can't do squat that compares to that from 16m away.".

It should be. You guys have to have some type of weakness or everyone will want jump on the fair weather band wagon, though you guys did go through the valley of suk a long time before they fixed your weapons. Your description says your unarmed brawlers so use it when you get melee attacked. And please for the love of god do not startcrying like babies as the imperials with nerfedAT-STs are. No class should be all supreme of the battlefield.

Being a rifleman I just came by to say to all those who made fun of us and told us to shut up the following:"
Muahahaha".

Thank you for your time from a rifleman

tabuto, you miss a big point. Our biggest advantage is now a death sentence. Arguably our best weapon is the flamethrower, yes a HPC or rocket launcher will do more damage, but using them can be very expensive and they have very limeted ammo. So in order to do our best damage we have to get 2.5 melee damage back. But ok, i can deal with that BUT then theres also a 7-14 second delay(depends on flamethrower speed and commando level) in which we cant defend ourself. In other words, its suicide, if the target lives or theres multiple targets we are pretty much guarenteed to die if they do melee. Unlike riflemen theres no range buffer between our best damage. And yes we are unarmed brawlers, so why do we magically get hit for more damage? Shouldnt we get a reduction since we are used to being struck with melee?

Why would you even post that? I am shocked at the amount Riflemen posting on the Commando forum either masquerading as Commandos or making comments similar to Divil. You cannot compare a Rifleman to a Commando. They are just totally different, it's like comparing Rifleman to Bounty Hunter.

I honestly believe it was intentional, just not well thought out.

Our weapons are (were?) classed as melee weapons. This gave us a huge modifier against riflemen in PVP. I'll admit that was unfair. I think the devs moved us off the melee table onto the rifle table to correct this. THe problem is, our weapons aren't long range. You virtuallyhave to get within melee range to use any of our specials. What they should have done is put us on the same table as pistols, IMO.

I'd even settle for the carbine (50%) penalty. Wouldn't agree with it, but it wouldn't be such a major issue.
