Thread: My Fellow Commandos Let us boycot the Flame Tree!

Another thing to consider...Awhile back when folks were really blasting us for being over-powered (before we had the 2.5x Melee Damage Multiplier impact us) we were pretty much boycott'd...but not in the same way...Pretty much any Commando then went into a Med Center with their commando title on we refused healing services or just plain ignored...It sucked...and we commando's screamed foul and unfair...

Now we look to boycott others instead of just focusing on our own problems and getting them fixed...If we grief another by refusing services, how do you think they inturn will reward us when we need something from them? and what if it soils our reputation so much that no medic will heal us, and no entertainer will fix our mind wounds (since they can now block those they don't wish to heal)...have you thouroughly thought through this plan and how it could come back to hurt us in the end?

where do you suppose justification for the melee modifer came from?

If that was true then our profession would have been the only one impacted...but if you remember the history of the Melee Damage Modifier, you'll recall it first impacted all Ranged professions BUT commando...in fact, we did the 2.5x Melee Damage Multiplier to those same ranged professions as we were considered a Melee Profession...We protested it ourselves and in turn had the 2.5x Melee issue turned against us...It had nothing to do with Dabblers...It had to do with a felt advantage that Ranged professions had over Melee professions.

Anyone who was a Commando pre-weapons fix knows that right after the fix the flame thrower did alot more damage. But then I've been a Commando since September and a Master since October. I speak to you of commparissions that emcompass many many instances:

In my progression up the Commando Tree I obtained Pistoleer Novice for one main reason...to be able to stack healthshot1; & healthsot2; to help out until my accuracy with the FT was good enough to use alone. I dabbledfor the sake of using a more power and inviting special then I currently had available to me...does that make me as bad as the Flame Tree Dabblers...Couldn't Pistoleers use the same arguement against me stating that I should go all the way to Master Pistoleer?

To dabblers I say the following: If you've already put in the skill points and time to make novice, why not go master? Many of the short comings in the tree are remedied in some form at master. The acruacy mods are HUGE.

Would you say the same to Master Commando's who have not Mastered Smuggler or Pistoleer, but dabble in those professions..."You've already put in the skill points and time to make novice, why not go master?"

Let me ask you this? Why Novice Medic? Why did you pick up that skill? Do you feel it helps your character template to have Medic Novice? If that's the case, if someone feels it helps their template character to have the Flame Tree, how is that different? How can we tell them it's wrong?

I'm not posting any of this as a flame or slam...just to voice a difference of opinion...you ask who this "peaceful protest hurts"? I think it hurts us more then it hurts the people we refuse to train....It hurts our image...we become that group that hates Dabblers...we become that profession who refuses to train others....we become those commandos who don't like other's playing with our toys...And if you think that type of reputation won't come back to haunt us, just wait and see...posts like this usually get linked to by other forums...and they then use them to say "Hey...see this...I told you they were that way....I was right..."

Anyone read the god damned manual where it clearly and plainly states and encourages dabbling?.....

Seriously if you removed the flame thrower from commando then what??? I'm not personally thrilled its the best thing we've got going, but that's just the facts.

Everyone Dabbles....... there is not a single person in this game that can even really avoid dabbling. There are no pure artisans, pure medics, pure marksmen, pure anything.... Everyone is forced and encouraged to dabble.

Pretty sure every single character on every single server has skill points left over making them a dabbler. No 2 master classes stacked equal exactly 250 pts. Leave the dabblers alone. Get a life if your pissed some 0040 commando might be having remotely as much fun as you.

Funny, the book does encourage "dabbling" to create your own unique character in the starwars universe. I'm a former 0 0 4 0 commando and invested some of my 250 pts for the skills, I'll use them as I want.

The problem here is NOT the dabbling. It's the broken and jacked up nature of the profession where the flamethrower is the only truly viable commando weapon.

Heavy weapon support is only usefull to the GCW participants mostly... for taking out turrets and ATST's...

Acid compared to flamethrower is pointless, especially in the face of the DOT that doesn't take into account armor or resists.

Launcher?? why bother.

Grenades? Fun but expensive.

I live off the launcher. Learn to love it. Since you are a master marksmen, drop both bleed shots, wait until it gets to 20m, hit it with suppression fire, then drop a flame dot on your target, then switch back to launcher using suppression fire to keep your target away from you. I use aim shot alot with har and the flamer to insure I hit. I do that solo. When grouped I stay at 16m aim shot flame dot, and AoE flame as needed making sure each target is dot'd. Use all your weapons. A well made launcher pistol sliced without powerup (prepatch) can do 65-265 approx. Which isnt too shabby at speed of less than 2.0.

So your a master Comando So what. Im a Master CH and I choose to be an 0040 Comando. Why? because i can. What gives you the right to smack down dabblers in other professions. I suppose you only used your skill points fo commando and left the rest alone right. You Hipocrit!!!

Garvin's got the right state of mind here. He's said everything I would have. The classes in this game are not like other games. No one is 'stealing' your class by using just one part of it, that's the idea behind the way the classes are set up. Therefore, 'dabbler' is a word that has no use when speaking of this game.

I don't see any reason to meke the FT branch harder to learn than it already is. Whether or not you decide to train someone is your own deal too. However, should a boycott actually occur, there will be a few 'scabs' that will steal teach the skills. Most players will go for the easiest route to power and wealth. What needs to change will come from the dev's side of things. That's where you need to focus your attacks and issues.

Why would i bother with a launcher pistol bleed when I have a flame dot?

considering that commando has been adjusted more by thre devs than ANY other profession, let it be, its fine, adn there will always be dabblers, EXAMPLE EVERYBODY dabbels in pistoleer. Im sure there are many commandos (like myself who are also pistoleers os they can do double health bleeds with the LP.

just remember, commandos used to A) have to craft their own grenades) and B) none of the guns certified or had bugged range mods making the ENTIRE PROFESSION bugged.

weve been given the love so dont throw it away over somethign stupid like this.

ok...i hear a bunch of commandos complaining about how they have nothing but the flamethrower and they suck pvp cuz the flamer has sucky speed. Im a master commando and id like everyone to know that I NEVER use flamethrower pvp with the exception of huge wars(wounds come in handy). The heavy support weapons are best for one on one. Heavy particle beam cannon has heavy armor piercing with a dmg listing of 1000-3000 unsliced.....speed with modifier about 3.0. I use this for stationary targets cuz if they are moving you miss nearly everytime.Mobile targets i use the rocket launchers(probably the best....but they are very expensive so its best to consverve when possible). With sliced heavy weapons its not uncommon for me to one hit ppl in combat....even if they have armor on. As far as i can tell, the acid stream launcher and the lighning cannon should be good but are bugged...as with grenades.

Hope this helps
