Ok does any one know what this realy means for us? When we tell them that we cant do any thing any more with the Dots gone and the Fire resist and how much we miss is horrible they say. "wait for the combat balance". What does this mean to us? I dont want to jump ship even though I droped from heavy weps and tactics down to just flame IV. I love my flame thrower. But does any one realy have any ideas of what this means for us so I can at least have some contentment to know we are going to even out? Or is this a nerf that just means there brining every other combat professsion up to our level? heheh just a question Ide like to find that siler lineing you know? With The blankets comming out ot put out Fire Dots and all the armor out there that make our hits realy poor. Ide like to see one thing we can look forward too. If any one has any info please let me know on this thread that would be great.

Should commando's really be all that great in pvp? Isn't the point of a commando to big the big damage dealers to the tanks? If the change really means that you can't kill a kimo or an atst which are occupied by other things in a reasonable amount of time then that sucks.. As far as the hitting other players with big bulky, slow, high powered weapons, and one hit resulting in an eventual death to anyone who isn't buffed or a doctor, I don't really think that's the point of a commando. I could be wrong though It would be nice if they upped the power on some of your other weapons now since they have limited that effects of burns on your one working weapon. hehe

If the prerequisite to commando was only the Range Support line I would agree with you, but it's not. All other elite combat professions reflect their prerequisite, as such it would make logical sense for commandos to as well. We are general masters of ranged combat, with enough know-how for close range situations to stay alive (if you read our prerequisite requirements.) To be blunt, the commando seems like it should be the 'jack of all trades' combat profession - decent at most skills, but master of none.

At the very least, we should be about even in a one-on-one match with any other elite profession. Our strength, as such, would seem to logically be intended to lie in that we aren't specialized in any particular skill, but at the same time, we have no glaring weaknesses (except perhaps to biological warfare.)

Commandos should excel at PvP and the Galactic Civil War, after all, how many commandos have you heard of that use their weapons of mass destruction forcritter hunting?

Anyways, to get back to my primary point, the commando should not by any means only be able to function as a support character relying on innacurate heavy weapons to take down armored targets. This is not to say that a commando should never do this, but rather, that the commando must not be forced into this role. A skilled commando should be able to effectively serve as both a primary combatant, or a support character, depending on what the situation warrants.

One word about the fire blanket. I have a doc char on TC, so I can tell you about it.

The blanket schematic is recieved at doc crafting 4. The skill to use is atained at wound treatment speed 2 I believe. The blanket has a medicine use similar to that of an enhance pack c I believe, which means that you need doc medicine knowledge 3 minimum to use it. Unless the opposite team has a doc or 2 running around, then they will have a hard time running around and healing everyone, since the blanket can only be used at point blank range. Also, the blanket requires some rare resources, and *may* require repeated uses to put out the flames completely, kind of like it may take several poison stims to cure your poison.

Well written, it has been my understanding that that particular description of the ROLE of a commando is what SOE has been working toward. We may have some issues along the way but thus is the life in the day of a MMORPG. I have confidence that in the end even after the cmpleted combat rollout on all professions we will be able to perform in both the role of combatant and support troop. The only real complaint I myself have had is the anoying issue with effectiveness of expensive thrown weapons. I tend to agree that most of the players use FT 99% of the time because they have not had good experiences with acid riffle, rocket launcher and the more powerful grenades. But with the fortelling of the mods to come I am sure this to will change.

Exelent post. You realy summed up what commando should be. Why did people ever think of commando only doing big damage to armored targets? Turrets shoot past our max range and the only other armored target would be an ATST ( in which is hardly used and if your imperial your screwed )

The new titles speak for themselves 'Shock Trooper' and 'Demolitonist'. When I look at the trees and skills in Commando, I picture a soldier. An all-around grunt who can pick up a rocket launcher when the needarises, and then switch to a flame thrower for infantry combat. As Raptor said, we should be on an even keel with everyelite combat profession, not restricted to strictly Anti-vehicular combat (honestly, besides AT-STs and Turrets, what combat 'veichles' are there? Speeders? A FWG5 can take one out ) nor Anti-infantry (Why not just turn us into a rifleman/carbineer mix?) roles. I hope to see Commando turn into the 'standard foot soldier' class of SWG...but that's just me

Punisher, people are generally ignorant. What they learn of war comes from movies and television programs. Then they come up with these "logical" ideas they insist are based on fact when in reality they're based fromthe warped perspective of facts relayed in common fiction. That is my opinion on why people constantly say a commando should be able to take out tanks and nothing else.

Well said Raptor. People see that we got RLs and grenades and think that we should just be tank smashers but what the hell good is that unless your an IMP? And whoever said that we would only need ranged support for that crap is dead on.

/sacasm I invested all my poinst to be a big wimp and get my but kicked by people who are more dedicated in crafting than combat. I can level that AT-ST but that chef might be a problem.

/endsarcasm

Yeah right. The fact is there needs to be a pecking order rater than balance. BHs and Commandos are left out in the cold right now. If it made it any easier, I would accept being behind BH in the pecking order just based on skill points required but, for everyone, if you invest more into combat, you get more.

Balance MUST come from skill poolinvestment in combat profesions to wear anyone that has 250 points in all combat is balanced only with others that have 250 skill points as far as power goes instead of master 92 point profession = master of 169 point profession= master of 237 point profession. Support professions such as medic should tip the scale just a bit but not over someone who has 50% more skill points invested in combat.

The sad thing is, those of us elite HYBRIDS are actually a lot weaker than any stand alone profession right now. Dont believe me? I can show you how well I do with just half of pistoleer profession compared to master commando and pistoleer is by no means over powered or even a working profession.

Lets see fan shot does what multi-target shot is supposed to do multi target is no good, melee defense 1 KDs while melee defense 2 doesnt, disarming shot doesnt disarm. There is more Im sure, thats just what I know off the top of my head.

Pretty much, every profession has broken traits just about, people only notice what works.
