The Revamped Combat Systems is still getting done and we won't see it finished until around 3 to 4 months away and I am being generous. So you have lots of waiting.

That sounds really good , however should it really be the case? If so what weapon do you intend to use to do this? In my opinion a commando should lose to a carbineer pretty much every time, unless that carbineer is being occupied by something else. Good at pvp? well yes. However, good at dueling? No. This is all just my opinion but what makes you think that you would be able to win a one on one fight with any other ranged profession with a grenade or a flame thrower? I guess what I'm saying is I dont' think that commando should be a 1on1 or dueling class. I think a commando should be very effective at pvp but in group situations. Maybe if they change the har a little or give you guys an accurate highly damaging fast weapon you could go one on one with anyone, but why would they do that? As it stands now, they have given you slow highly damaging weapons. I'm not a carbineer but if you duel a carbineer you should be knocked down laying on the ground and game over. Same thing with a bh. If you duel a bounty hunter you should be /confusionshot,/fireknockdown, and then game over. You should be chasing a pistoleer with your flame thrower. I'm sure you guys won't like the sound of that, but in my opinon you should be by far the worse 1on1 ranged profession. However, I think you should be by far one of the most useful group professions in the game. Why? You have no defense, You have slow highly damaging weapons capable of hitting mulitple targets.

One more thing Commando requires heavy weapon xp. Isn't a heavy weapon by definition slow? It just seems like any weapon so big that it can be considered heavy probably is going to be bulky and restrict movement. Also, this type of weapon by it's very nature should be hard to fire at a fast rate unless we're talking about a chain gun lol. I know this game isn't counterstrike but if you've played the game... have you ever tried going one on one with the sniper using the machine gun? Doesn't work too well. Although, if you have someone in front of you and you fire away with the machine gun you can actually get a few kills. If you want to be good 1 on 1 then after this next patch pick up carbineer and knock your opponent down then pull out the rocket launcher hehe.

You're right.. this isn't counterstrike.

Completely different game. It's easy to comment on Commandos when you've never played one. PvP? We flat out stink. As a master commando, I never expect a chance to win against a novice rifleman or pistoleer. Our flamethrower misses most of the time, and when it hits, comp armor usually resists most of the damage.

So, we can't kill people. Then maybe we'll kill tanks, like you said.

Tanks?? I don't remember seeing any tanks! This is SWG, there are NO tanks. The closest thing to a tank is a AT-ST, and why would an imperial want to take out his/her own armored vehicle? Nevermind the fact that a fencer or TKA can most likely take out an AT-ST faster. Tell me how that makes sense.

So, what else? Turrets? Yay. We can kill turrets with expendible rocket launchers. The accuracy is bad and due to the crazy resources required, they're not made too often and are usually quite expensive.

So, since you don't play commando, let me sum everything up for you:

1.) We have one weapon that works good enough to use and that is the Flamethrower. It's too bad that most difficult creatures have high to 100% heat resists. That leaves me pretty much worthless in bigger group hunts.

2.) The Heavy Acid Rifle flat out stinks. Ever wonder why you never see a commando use one? There's a reason. The devs say that it's fixed in this upcoming publish, but i'm skeptical that it will be anything but a compromise when battling a creature with high heat resists.

3.) Our grenades stink. The accuracy is horrible, the damage isn't worth it, and they're expendible.

4.) Heavy Weapons are pretty much worthless. See above on issues of accuracy, damage, and expendibility. Rocket launchers are pretty much the only weapon that is actually decent, but due to their accuracy and expendibility, usually they're only used on targets with blast vulnerability. We also have NO specials on any of these. So, there are absolutely no modifiers on the damage.

5.) As stated about, we can't PvP. A Master Commando (someone who has MASTERED Marksman, has trained in Unarmed 4, and Mastered his profession) will lose against someone who has mastered TKM, Rifleman, and Pistoleer (each having trained only ONE tree in marksman). Tell me how that makes sense. Commandos are good at big game hunting against creatures with fire vulns. We're not supposed to be big game hunters. We're supposed to be COMMANDOS (warriors, battle masters, ect, ect).

6.) The launcher pistol is pretty much useless unless you have pistoleer skills. I don't know any other profession that doesn't have specials for one of their certified weapons.

7.) We have very, very bad defenses. I'm pretty sure Rifleman, who is a distant attack specialist, has higher melee and ranged defense mods than us. See above on the skill points spent on each. Add to that the fact that our flamethrower has short range and we are often forced into close combat situations.

Don't get me wrong.. I like the Commando profession. It definately has alot of potential, but right now it's pretty broken. Yes, other professions have broken aspects to them, but not many have only 1/4 of their trees working to the point where our profession is functional. While I wait for the devs to pick up the commando from the back burner, I'm mastering rifleman so I can actually be somewhat valuable in PvP and bigger hunts.

"That sounds really good, however should it really be the case? If so what weapon do you intend to use to do this?"

Quite simply, yes, this should be the case. The commando should be able to be evenly matched with any other elite combat profession. Also notice that I say evenly matched, and not more powerful than. What weapon do I intend to use to do this? Every weapon at my disposal of course!

Due to the broad variety of weaponry a commando has, they should be able to situationally equip weapons to match up with what an opponent is using. Melee classes attacking? Use a close-range weapon. Having trouble with Rifleman? Pull out a ranged weapon that lets you compete on an even playing field.

The commandos strength should not be derived from over-specialization; rather, the strength of the profession should lie in it's ability to adapt. A commando needs mastery of the entire marksman line, in addition to the unarmed skill-tree before they can even start. This would imply that a commando's mastery of weapons would cover a tremendous variety of situations, close up, long range, etc.

"This is all just my opinion but what makes you think that you would be able to win a one on one fight with any other ranged profession with a grenade or a flame thrower?"

This is part of our current problem - we area one trick pony that's only effective at close range. What I've been pushing for all along is expaning of our abilities so that they accurately reflect our prerequisites. An elite-hybrid based off of the marksman profession should never be a support class that requires a group to be effective. A commando should be just as effective as any other elite combatant alone

On another note, where does everyone get the idea that a commando should be terrible at one on one fights? Yes, they are now, but that's not the way it should be. In a one-on-one fight with any other elite combat profession, a commando should be on a relatively even playing field thanks to the diversity of skills they have (which comes from beinga profession based on the mastery of marksman and unarmed IV.)

Think of it this way: Elite combat professions are based off of a single skill tree in either marksman or brawler. The commando profession, is based off of all marksman professions, in addition to the unarmed tree, ergo our abilities should encompass a more balanced and well-rounded assortment of weaponry and tactical abilities.

commando: a military unit trained and organized as shock troops especially for hit-and-run raids into enemy territory.

thats a direct quote from a dictionary incidently (love the shock troop line, new title coming to me) a commando unit is a small group of heavily trained soldiers whose primary goal is to infiltrate, destroy and extract. we arent tank busters or turret destroyers. we are mayhem and chaos generators. a commando troop normally consists of a team of 4... a leader, a demo expert/ com tech, a heavy machine gunner and a sniper. in effect, the ideal commando squad in this game would be: 1) master squad leader/ master crabineer 2) master commando/ master smuggler 3) master commando/ master carbineer 4) master rifleman/ master scout.

just to let you guys know I have mastered commando and have used commando a lot in pvp, but I don't think commando should be a dueling class. I don't think Commando should be a stand alone class, so that every newb goes commando and that's all they have to be to win everytime. You guys do remember all the commando groups where everyone who was overt was a commando? lol.. that's not how it should be. No one can hit... that's b/c of stackers. You're not alone in that. Still however, I dont' think you should be an even match for professions like bh or carbineer, or even pistoleer. You're advantage should be suprise in my opinion. Not just straight 1v1 dueling anyone and being an even match. The reason why.. you have big heavy weapons, so you should be vulnerable to knockdown, vulerable to status change, dizzy. Now if you have a few players occupied, throw a grenade. In my opinion you should be doing a lot more damage. You should be like a bh is intended to be all offense no defense. Take the stacking away and let's see how it works out. However, the one advantage bh should have over you is the carbine. Bh can knockdown so their lack of defense "shouldn't" matter as much. You don't have that advantage, which means that since carbines are faster, pistols are faster, tka is faster, fencer is faster, you should lose in duels and 1 on 1 fights. When things focus on you, you should go down simply b/c you have no defense. Although, with things occupied you should blow them up. When you catch things by suprise, which correct me if I'm wrong, Isn't that whata commando does?, you should blow them up. lol. I just don't think a commando should be a dueling class. If you don't like examples that dont' relate to the game, then quit using them to make points. The game has given you slow weapons, fast weapons are designed to win in duels. That's not always the case now that nothing can be hit and we have tank riflemen.

"I don't think Commando should be a stand alone class, so that every newb goes commando and that's all they have to be to win everytime."

No one here wants commando to be the ultimate combat class that owns all others - all we want is as good a chance of standing alone in combat as the other elite combat professions. I really don't think that's asking for too much given our skill-point cost, prerequisites, and not to mention the profession title (and the discriptions within, such as "A Master Commando is extremely dangerous on the battlefield andshould be avoided at all costs".)

To put it bluntly, I see no justification whatsoever for making commandos into a purely support class that can't stand on it's own, despite the fact that any other elite profession branched off a single tree can.

Hey Brothers!

I've been around a bit, mostly read to find our how we're doing, and post when something rediculose happens to us. I gave up on that.

I'm posting now because I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Of course I'm skeptical, like many of us.

I really think our main issue is the fact that we spend SP for ....what? There are so many different opinions on what we should be...our specialty...our role. But we have to be something! Support? Anti-Armor (HAR being crappy AP?) ? Crowd control? What are we....?

Give us a definition! Pistoleers use Pistols. Unarmed use UNARMED. Bounty Hunters are BOUNTY HUNTERS! Commandos are...WHAT!!!???

We have a FlameThrower that has a DOT that can be extungushed, or even Nulled, by several means! We have a Heavy Acid Rifle...that does not work. WE have grenades that kill us if we use them,Iand don't work except outside...and they miss.WE wanna do Dungeons too..but "WE weredumb and spentour skill points on Commando".WE can't fire a consumable, which WE pay for, in a cool dungeon...hell..even a POI! AND they miss! WE can't helpour guilds defending a base...WE can't help attacking. Most of us use Commando to supplement a "PRIMARY" profession. A "PRIMARY" profession that costs half our prerequesit cost.

So I'm a TKM who has the opportuniy to use a DOT that is the weakest in the game. I'm a Rifleman who can use a flamer for someone who gets within 16m...

WE are weak, yet maybe, the Devs and TH might understand that we have to have a definition. TH posted here a few times this week, so maybe they see the TRUE story. Come on! Why spend so many skill points to Master a profession that is ineffective? Why?

Droids and Food is all fine and dandy. But...TH, Lord, Whoever!...

"We want to be a part of the GCW, have a definition, AND have justification for our Skill Point Sacrafice!"

I say we wait. Let's see. After publish 8 (Beta8) we see. I'm putting my faith into TH. For me, Publish7 is close to Bye...Let's all work for 8!

Good luck Commandos! Ya never know!

Slainte!

We are general masters of ranged combat, with enough know-how for close range situations to stay alive (if you read our prerequisite requirements.) To be blunt, the commando seems like it should be the 'jack of all trades' combat profession - decent at most skills, but master of none.

At the very least, we should be about even in a one-on-one match with any other elite profession. Our strength, as such, would seem to logically be intended to lie in that we aren't specialized in any particular skill, but at the same time, we have no glaring weaknesses (except perhaps to biological warfare.)

Commandos should excel at PvP and the Galactic Civil War, after all, how many commandos have you heard of that use their weapons of mass destruction forcritter hunting?

Anyways, to get back to my primary point, the commando should not by any means only be able to function as a support character relying on innacurate heavy weapons to take down armored targets. This is not to say that a commando should never do this, but rather, that the commando must not be forced into this role. A skilled commando should be able to effectively serve as both a primary combatant, or a support character, depending on what the situation warrants.

I don't think Commandos are necessarilyMasters of ranged combat. They're adapt marksmen (hence the prerequisite) but they only really shine when they use their heavy weapons and demolitons devices. At least that's how I think it should be.They should deal some heavy damage up close with flamethrowers and grenades, with enough melee defenses to be able to survive an encounter with any melee profession. On the other hand, HPBCs and Rocket Lauchers should be able to take out hard targets and players at 50m and beyond and the HAR is something for in between. But leave the true mastery of ranged combat to Riflemen or Carbineers

Alas, I agree that commandos shouldn't be forced into a support role.

I think you should just go Imperial, get an AT-ST, become a master CH too, get a Rancor. Send these two at your enemy and shoot him while he is distracted by the two devastators, and you will win quite easily. In fact, I think you can make it without the AT-ST, or Master CH. Just make sure to either have an AT-ST or a strong creature, and just send it at your enemy. I do that with enemies that appear red to me, my graul mauler usually is immune to their attacks and doesn't take that much damage. Meanwhile, I fire the enemy, and of course - I win.

Commando is an elite profession. But yet it is the weakest elite profession out there. I mean since when have anyone in RL been hit by a flamethrower and lived to tell about it? Flamethrowers have been known to take out tanks, bunkers, and heavy armored troops. But in this game a flamethrower can even kill an unarmed critter with out 5-10 blasts from it.

TKA's can kd/dizzy a commando and a commando wont ever get up. For being an elite profession shouldnt we have better melee defense? And the range of a flamethrower has less range than a tka using kd lmao. Why does a commando have to be within 15m to use a flamethrower?

Rifleman will hit you with mind shot 1-3 times and you are dead. Though it takes a flamethrower 5-10 blast to kill something.

Combat Medic can poison a commando and just run around waiting for the poison to over take the commando. Ive seen this many times.

There are so many more professions that can destroy a commando in pvp its pathetic. Those above are just a few examples but ive seen hardcore commandos go down so fast with other non-elite professions. Why the hell make commando a elite profession when they have a hard time killing an unarmored dancer?

To be honest this profession really sucks and isnt getting better. Ive been a commando from day one and have been let down over and over.

All i can really say is i am a master commando/tkm and i still get kd/dizzy with ease. I cant get back up and i just say screw it. How can a ELITE profession be so weak? I do more damage as a tkm than i do as an elite master commando -----lol. thats funny. Grenades are suck a joke as well- i threw 4 genades with 2100 max damage at some guy in pvp once -did 15 points of damage. LMAO. Since when can you throw a grenade at someone and have them live through 4 grenades

Sorry, i am just so pist off at all these "pvp balance" fixes and issues the SOE says they will fix or balance. Perhaps they need to come across a commando in RL ( they do exist btw) and see how much they ARE NOT **edit**'s in combat!

Ono

May get 1 starred for this- but i think there is no reason making commando an elite profession when they have no combat skills. They should allow commando to use special for rifles, better melee defense and attack, and flamethrower should have a better range than 15m to use flame1,2 cone 1, cone2. I mean really is a commando really that elite in this game? i think not.
