Garvin, do I have to get buffed every 3 hours after the CB?

In every (and I mean EVERY, EVERY, EVERY...E V E R Y!!!) other rpg, you gain life as you progress forward. For some ungodly reason, in SWG you have to get buffed every 3 hours.

I'm tired of it. I'm tired of sitting in lines. I'm tired of my buffing falling just as I'm about to do something cool. I'm tired of paying doctors atleast once a day. My weapons, armors, foods, powerups, bikes, etc, etc, and etc all last weeks if not months.

Not those buffs.

Please God, tell me that I don't have to get buffed every 3 hours anymore.

To be honest...the answer is Yes and No...

It will depend heavily on your build and the situation...And don't automatically assume buffs are going to be the same in the Revamp...they too are included in the Revamp...

I know that is pretty vague...but the Devs should start having the CR docs going live by next week (hopefully)...

Just remember some key things that I and other's have hinted at...Each profession will have their specific roles...Combining those roles will be key...When you do get to read some of these docs, keep that in mind...

sorry not to hijack the thread.. but garvin if i understand you right from what you've said... pairing up different proffs will give different disadvantages and advantages.. and so the roles of each proff with be more important... if this is true?? are you keeping a eye on the other proffs too? (I know you've been busy) but i'd like to see a report (even if small) of how the roles of pther proffs could or could not suit us a commandos.

It's all coming...There are definitely other professions that will work great with us...some that many of us never even considered before...As part of the Summit we reviewed each Combat Professions, the changes, their benefits, etc...I've got lots of Template ideas in the works and will report on them soon...Many of these will be tested to the max when we hit the Sandbox...

But as I've stated before, I can't post exact details until the devs have had a chance to take the Summit responses and Correspondent revisions, reword the docs a bit and post them publically...any details I post before that could end up changed in the final version...

Actually, I kind of like the fact that we don't increase in hitpoints, I like that the system is unique and doesn't have the "pile on more hps for tougher guys" idea isn't in effect. I always despised the part of the EQ system where if you were a warrior and got to high levels, sitting down for your HPs to regenerate could litterally take hours. The tougher you get, the longer it takes for you to recover from injuries? How does that make sense? I never understood why they didn't have people regen on a time/percentage...but I'm getting off topic.

The buff issue is a very important and valid one. And its gotten even worse since NPCs started using specials again - which I actually think is a good thing, but before they changed that, I could (if I was careful) do the high level dantari missions on dantooine without buffs. Obviously I can't now, and since then, it made me realize - you can't do anything worth doing without buffs.

Money hunting, raiding, pvping, etc, etc, etc... It all requires buffs. Of course a lot of this big stuff is group oriented on some level, so its not so much the issue with buffs, since you probably have a doc nearby, its more of a time issue. We all have real lives, so getting your guild or group of friends to get together in a perfectly timely fashion is something we've all dealt with, it's always going to take some time to get ready for things, but the whole buffing thing just compounds it all. Doctors have six different buffs that they have to put on each person in a group individually, which they can only do in certain situations/places.

Then mind buffs are even worse - to get them both you need both a dancer and a musician, and they each take, what? 8 minutes is it? and it has even more stringent requirements on where you can do it, they're worth siginificantly less and they wear off much sooner. They said they're going to make docs/CMs able to heal mind in the CR, but its still going to very much be the "weak" pool.

The point is, you can't just decide to do anything it seems like. You can't say to your guildies, "Hey, there's a good number of us on, lets go do XX". Because its going to take like 45 minutes to get ready if you're lucky, and if you've got someone that shows up a little late, everyone will either have to wait even longer, or they're just SoL; and by the time everyone's ready, half the time someone will have to leave soon and everyone else is already bored.

And then if you're doing some dungeon-type raid and someone gets taken down, even if your doctor can revive them, they can't really participate much anymore because they'll get torn apart and the doctor can rebuff them without going somewhere to call a droid or get to a camp or med center.

....Oh, I'm just ranting now. lol.

I have already forseen this... the best class to complement a commando will be... CHEF. All food now need to be cooked and the only way to do that is with a fire DOT.

LOL cuality - my character description as amaster commandoon Intrepid was what Chef from 'Apocalypse Now' says after he gets away from the tiger - "I JUST WANTED TO LEARN TO F**KING COOK, MAN!" Wore a novice artisan tag for a little while when I still had it

Soon, all of SWG will PH33R the man-portable BBQ-gun (only when wielded by a master chef, of course!)

I can see it now: after the CR, MC/MC will be the new uber-template Chefs will get bonuses to fire DoTs and... target flavor?

14 months ago when i first started playing this game people didn't even know what a buff was yet and nobody was selling them yet. At this point in time players actually had to rely on each other for help and there was a much greater sense of community. Seeing 20 member hunting parties was a common sight and people worked together as a team to accomplish certain goals. Nowadays everyone wants to go solo everything. And I don't think thats how it was meant to be. I liked huge hunting parties. I liked when the game was as much a social event as much as it wasfor fun and not so cold.
