i saw somet in the garibaldis post about commandos dont wanna be the jedi of the galaxy, and we dont wanna be that powerful, but when people complain about bounty hunters being powerful they all say "hey we had to master 2 professions to be a bounty hunter" - fair enough, but commandos have to master 1 profession and get the unarmed branch, so in the theory of the bounty hunters excuse for their power over the basic ranged professions (pistoleers, carbineers, riflemen) should not commandos be on a similar level? as it stands the responses from the devs are saying that what makes the commando is our specials on a certain weapon, so if we use a special that will do say 800 damage on a hit, then they say that the relay time between the next shot is justified, but a pistoleer can use a shot for 450 damage, wait 2 seconds and do another, and another, so how is the relay time between the shots + the damage on that 1 shot justified? no we dont wanna be "jedi of the universe" but have we not earned a little power?

Keep the current damage, add a little on speed, and give us major armor piercing, then we will be fine.

Look around, I might be behind you.

Everyone is taking BH as a primary combatprofession. This doesnt even make sense considering the Bountyhunters are not designed to be a primary combat class.Yes they are intended to be very powerful so they can seek out and destroy their given bounty. Commandos arent designed for hunting someone down and taking them out justifing the lower point costs, but we should be much more effective in an all out combat fight.

Seeing how riflemen take 4 boxes to get to novice rifleman and commando's take 17 boxes to get to novice commando I'd sure hope they can whoop a rifleman's butt.

a commando is that big overdosed on steriodsguy in a group with granades in every strap and pocket on his body, and heavy weapons in each hand with one straped to his back, smoking a ciggarette as he makes corny yet witty coments as he kills his enemys...

No one should be "more powerful" than anyone else, given the same point usage. For instance, for the same points that can make a bountyhunter, a person can take pistoleer and creature handler.

Accordingly, a bounty hunter should be about the same combat wise. Likewise, a Commando should have roughly the same group ability as a "combat medic" since we both use the same points.

Asking whether a pistoleer should be more powerful than a commando is crazy, because we can be BOTH a pistoleer and a commando, or a TK and a commando. We couldnt, however be a commando and a creature handler.

See what I am getting at? What most people will eventually find is that players that pick a variety of trees and dont master one "profession" will eventually be the "best" at a particular task.

For instance, a Commando that takes only Acid Rifle and Flamethrower, and Creature handler (or something along those lines).

Doesn't make any sense bases on current facts for how stats and professions work. Master is the best way to go. being a "Mutt" is the worst option. If your a "Mutt" you may be able to heal some, use all weapons, sample, and harvest hide/bone/meat but can you use a T21 to deal 3000 in a hit? Nope. So how can this "Mutt" ever compeat with a master rifleman per say?!?!?! He can't.

For that matter how can anyone make a T21 if you don't master a profession. (T21 = master weaponsmith item)

Commando's flame thrower is master weaponsmith level so commando's need masters to work. Plus you can master 3.5 professions.

Ok just to toss my 2 credits into this...

BH should be a jack of all trades. They should be the scout, the tracker, pick up any weapon and use it, know how to fight dirty and pretty much know all the skills it takes to get the job done. Seeing also how they use most of there points to get there, sure they should get some butt.

Master at ranged weapons and melee weapons. If they are a master at one type of weapon then yes I think they should be able to get some seriuos butt with that one type of weapon. Knowing the tricks and skills of that one weapon type, makes sense to me.

Commandos, now I know everyone has there own opinions and views on our professions and I do respect them but here is my own spin on the commando.

First, we are from a military line of combat training so our tactics should be a little bit better then the rest because we did not learn from some back street training, we have elite military training which should be better then the rest. We also should be able to be a one person recon force to be reckoned with. We should be able to handle explosives better then anyone else, no doubt there.

Also being a Commando should mean that we have access to more powerful weapons then the others hence heavy weapons. Now there is awlays debate about if we should do more damage to people or buildings/vehicals... if I am using a rocket to take out a AT-ST are you telling me that it would not do that much damage against some person standing there with a pistol and bone armor? The rocket can take out AT-ST armor but not bone armor?

We cant be the most powerful profession in the game, there should not be one single more powerful profession in the game. Let us be experts at explosives, let us be able to handle the heavy weapons, let our skills reflect the fact that we our the elite soliders of death and give back our grenade making!

Ever watch any movie or read any book about the commandos? There kill/death ratios are the best, they can handle anything that comes there way. Commandos have always and will always be the most elite soldier there is, and we as SWG Commandos should also reflect this. Now I am not for us being able to shoot 10 rockets every 10 seconds BUT I am for the fact that we may shot slow, takes time to use these heavy weapons, when we hit it does more damage then a rifle bullet. What would you rather be hit with a bullet or a explosive tip anti-vehical rocket? Our DPS should not be higher or lower, we shoot slow but hit for crazy amounts of damage. Stop for one moment and think about this... the damage one bullet can do and the damage one rocket can do... also I have always said that all of our weapons should have area damage, dont give us weapon speed give us splash damage and or damage over time.

So in my view/opinion commandos are the most elite hard core fighting grunt of the military, with skills that show this

I think the commando is a jack of all trades.. related to destruction that is.

A pistoleer specializes in just a pistol thus should be better than a commando using a pistol. Likewise for carbines and rifles. The commando is versatile. They have good skills with rifl/carbine/pistols. If a commando wants to try a sniping challenge with a riflemen he will get smoked. And this makes perfect sense.

Commando's should rely on carbine/pistol/rifles/unarmed as primary attack. Then throw in an occasional grenade and throw out a beam cannon every once in a while. Oh and if he has the time... the commando can clean house with a flamer/acid rifle

That's the way I see it.

I'm gonna do master commando.. with one tree in pistoleer/tka and riflemen. Gonna kick major booty.

Commandos should do the most damage in the game.

I'm tired of games making every weapon type almost the exact same in damage output.

What's the point of a HEAVY weapon if it's not going to do more damage than a small hand pistol or even a carbine?

At some point you have to give up "balance" for a bit of "realism" in a game.

There's no reason why a typical gun should be able to match a heavy weaponin the damage department.

Now I don't want Commandos to be uber. I'm just getting tired of people wanting all the weapons in these games to do the same overall damage. It really makes the variety pointless. If I want to spec in heavy weapons, I should do HEAVY damage. If I want to be a Scout,a Squad Leader and a Pistolier, I wouldn't expect to have my uber pistol stand up against some guy with a heavy weapon. That's the career choice I made.

Commandos don't get two knock down. They don't get their own missions. All they get is Heavy Weapons and grenades. They should do more raw damage than the other classes.

Commando is heavy weapons. As such a commando should hands how out damage anyone. I'm not saying be the best. With the damage factor being that high the speed will be slow. Make acid rifle and stuff do 250-500 dmg but be like 8.0 speed.

Zeto,

You are mistaken in what I mean. Players dictate the situation around them 100% in a PvE game, and most of the time in a PvP game. So, they can effectively exclude situations where they are not good. For instance in my template, I do not have "explorer" so I will not fight near hills. I made my "limitation" ineffective, by my hunting ground choice.

Look at the commando tree. If you do not plan on fighting aoe foes, or highly armored foes, you have no use to take the Heavy Weapons Support, and the Grenade branch of our tree. You will be nearly as effective as a master commando in the areas in which you want to practice by skipping them, and you can pick up other things that will make you better in such areas....such as the TK combat exp branch that gives huge defensive bonuses....of course, there is no need to take the fist bonuses, because you are not going to use your fists.

The most obvious example of this is bounty hunters and pistoleers. They constantly fight over which should be the better at pistols, which is pretty funny, because the best person in the game at pistols would be a Pistoleer, with the Bounty Hunter Pistol branch. A Bounty Hunter, with as many Pistol sklls as left over, wouldnt be as good though, because you "wasted" points on droid speed and precision.

Note that "wasted" is a relative term. If you put yoruself in situations where droids are helpful, then you didnt waste the points, but if you never put yourself in situations where you use droids, then you did.

The perfect Commando example is with Grenades. If you never use grenades...then you wasted your skill points in that line. You HAVE to put yourself in situations where you use grenades to get the most out of being a master commando.
