Commandos should not take a melee damage increase because no one should. A combat system that forces all engagements to take place at a distance which can be closed in seconds does not offer sufficient advantage to ranged attacks to warrant such a penalty.

A typical rifle user can get one or maybe two shots before being engaged in melee -- that's not futuristic or even modern firearm combat. That's black powder.

Thanks, maddogs :-)

And yes, I am a fanatical Imperial loyalist and that DOESN'T mean I'm stupid.

2 ALL:

Please don't spam this too much or point to this post from time to time, I'd really like Holocron to actually read it...

I will not speak about the same penalty for the riflemen because I just don't know enough about that profession, but I URGE you not to start a flame war in this precious thread... If you want to, just start a new thread, OK?

HOLO,

Well... I think I speak for a good portion of the commandos here, but I'm not sure. I'm sure some think like I do, and that you are exactly right, sir. There's how we work and how we're supposed to work, and we don't like how we work cuz it doesn't make sense. I now to fight like I'm a sniper!!! Ugh.

A close range weapon support specialist that has trained in unarmed as well as ranged combat should NOT take extra damage versus melee. I don't care if we can shoot from 64 meters. Our bread and butter is within 16 m, and that is the range of unarmed knockdowns and aoe mobs. We HAVE to get in close to kill. There should be no penalty for something we HAVE to do. Why should our launcher pistol, which has more range than our heavy weapons, incur no penalties while our flamethrower, which is a CLOSE RANGE weapon, incur 2.5X damage? A commando is supposedly able to kill with a variety of means, because he is the most knowledgeable person on the battlefield. I think he would know how to defend against melee. Hell he studied a whole tree of melee combat just to understand what kind of range he would be working in. Give us a break before you break our profession. Do you people just set around pressing buttons proclaiming," huh huh huh, i wander what that there button would do ta this here commando?"

God I hate commandos. DoT, Wounds and superattacks. Give them one negative thing and they cry a river the size of Mississippi. The riflemen can handle it, but I guess they are just better players.

You obviously don't have a clue. Rifle are long-ranged weapons and their specials can be used at maximum range. Flamethrowers are short-ranged weaponsand their specials can only be used under 16 m.Giving melee penalties toflamethrowers makes them practically unusable and no longer viable. It's like giving melee damage penalties to pistoleers and melee professions.

You get the ridicolous super-attacks. That has to be countered with a negative issue. And besides that, you shouldnt take on things on your own. Be in a group with some meleers that can tank.

Aye, that makes more sense to me. The way it is makes little sense, unless u only use specials. does it make sense to run up, special, then run away and default atk, then run BACK to special agian, to git the best hits? nay, not really. So yah, powerful at <16m for both specials and default attacks, as well as no xtra damage to ranged and from meele, makes the most sense. And you need to work on the acid rifle and gernades still
