Thread: Challenge to Commando's

No, don't show me armor math. I can do armor math. Go out and do it, keeping in mind that not everyone just happens to have an 80% suit of composite laying around.

Actually, Maybe this should be the start of a new thread... but...
I wear full composite armor, due to bugs there are holes. Fine. (not really, but assuming, then, I am wearing no armor, since this particular attack hit a hole)
I was in combat with a grand wrix. Said grand wrix hit me, while holding a flamethrower. According to my datapad, my grand wrix can do max, 220 damage. Thus, 220*2.5=550.
Assuming, then, AR light, 550*1.25=687.5
AR medium? 687.5*1.25=859.375<--- This math may be in error... it could be: 550*1.5=825
Now I don't think a grand wrix would have AR medium, or especially not AR heavy... Maybe this shows my ignorance... is there an easy way to find this out?
But assuming it had AR medium, the max damage it could have done to me, counting as unarmored, was 859.
I took 978, in my combat window.
How???
It has seemed to me that, even for 2.5x, sometimes I take ludicrously high amounts of damage, and, rarely, fairly low damage.
Is this 2.5x as badly bugged as everything else?
Athein
In all honesty, I have no idea. But it would be a excelent question for our Correspondant to ask the dev's if they intend to keep the 2.5x damage on us.
in my earlier posts where i showed you some math I ignored the light armor rating for 1 simple reason: most creatures that are not newbie level have AP1 attacks. Just go to endor and fight the teddy bears there.. i swear those things have AP2 attacks or something, they nearly 1-shot me every time they aggro me.
And to the person with composite armor getting hit by 900's by a wrix: both npc's and creatures can use special attacks on you. GSP's for example, can do posture change attacks, wrix's I think have some sort of analog to unarmed hit 1 attacks.
A giant peko peko in naboo hit me for 1024 damage last night... it would usually hit me for 600 (penalty included). 1024 damage.. for something that cons blue to my flamer. ![]()
Ting is..not everyone wants to be a part time CH. Not insulting the class or anything, it's just not me. I bust my ass to get master commando. SINCE DAY ONE. What do I have to show for it? No mods or specials for the launcher pistol, Heavy acid rifle is a joke, slower AND less powerful than the flamthrower. And now ontop of all the flamethrowers vulnerabilities......this. If the launcher wqas working right I would care much about the melee penalty since I could simply use my laucnehr instead but as it is now its a waist of time to even bother with master commando, it's simply for bragging rights. I might as well be "uber l33t" flame4 "commando". Why take up the HAR line? For what? My pride? Heavy Weapons? But flame's DOT can kill an AT-ST for efficiently. grenades? Yea, I'll throw one and kill my opponent AND me. Forget it.
You know what these knuckleheads at SOE should do? FIRST fix all the combat classes THEN nerf for balance.
Not everyone has a full suit of 70% kinetic resist Composite armor and a Greater Sludge Panther lying around in their house.
I don't want to be able to solo anything in the game as a Master Commando. I just want to be able to take some level 20-25 missions without having to set up a macro to fire a flame special then switch to my Scout Blaster because the 2.5x damage mod requires me to do it if I don't want to get ripped to shreds when the mob warps to 0m.
Well time to throw my two cents in now to keep it alive ![]()
Well I use a combo of Swordsman, Master Brawler and Master Commando which lets medo Stormtrooper missions, Darktroopers and variousyellow white con creatures solo without a pet or buffs but I do have Composite Armour which I think is needed for our class. I do admit I can't do any of the real nasty mobs which can be found on Endor, Dath, Lokand Dant. But the skills I have do save me from getting wasted by them so my group members can put thier pets on the mobs.
How I do it is basically use Lunge 2, Warcry 2 and flame 2 then move out of melee range, stack a heal (have Novice Medic and First Aid 1) while I wait for Flame 2 to drop then move in and flame it again or move on to the next mob and repeat. I have found Warcry to be less useful and not reliable enough to use it all the time, mainly try it on the first mob and see how I go from there.
It can be done but you can't use commando on it's own, you need to grab other skills to help you.
As for the cash element my weapons and armourlast long enough for me to get the cash together to get more and I don't use the grenades and other expendables all that often as I don't find them all that usefull at this time.
But most of my time killing stuff is with my PA as I rather group than solo.
I could care less about shooting the wings off of a baby peko peko at 300km. I’ll save that for the elite weapons’ professions and Smugglers. I also don’t care if a Bruce Lee wannabe can come up, poke me in the eye through my armor and kill my wife’s unborn children while I turn to dust.
What I do care about is that I am supposed to be a Heavy Weapons specialist. Give me all the weaknesses you want – take my armor away (it gets in the way of aiming a large weapon), make me slow and vulnerable (large weapons are heavy and bulky), make the refire time long (oh, wait ... it is – you know it takes a moment or two to reload a rocket launcher), whatever ... but dammit, when I shoot someone I better see bodies (and yes, I mean bodies - plural) fly!
I don’t care if you’re buffed up past an AT-ST’s HAM and are wearing armor that can put the Death Star’s planet killer weaponry in shock. If I hit you with a grenade, you should be stunned, dizzy, on your bum, and crying for your mommy ... all while I’m about to blast your body parts in 49 different directions with my rocket launcher.
There’s more involved in a grenade or rocket than just damage ... there are concussive forces, heat, shrapnel, sonic vibrations, intense change in pressure, etc. Sure, armor can lighten some of this, but not all. And don’t even get me started on flesh and bones ... again, buffing in this shouldn’t matter. “I have 10K HAM! HA HA!” ... BOOM ... “Yep, 1K is over there – 2.5K is back there – 750 I’m wiping off my clothes - ...”
We are heavy weapons experts whose heavy weapons are beat out by pistols of all things.
I didn’t pick commando to be the ‘ub3r 1337’ fighter. But I did pick it to be what the name implies ... a commando. Someone to be greatly feared. I’m all for a TK beating us when in arms reach. I’m all for a rifleman sniping us. But when we pull our triggers, things should die ... big things included.
As a notional example: You put the likes of Billy the Kid (A Pistoleer) against your average grunt with an M-203 and Billy (and possibly some close friends standing near him) most likely is going to be one messed up stain in the grass – luck not withstanding.
On another note, I’ve had a bunch of people tell me not to use the FT because I’ll always miss. So far, I’m hitting about 80% of the time as a Novice. I prefer it to the LP and I have Pistoleer skills.
As for the topic of pets, I’m not against them per se. But I do believe they are too powerful. A pet should be an added tool, not the sole (or main) means of fighting. A pet should speed things up, not make the impossible probable. I went Commando so I wouldn’t need a pet to fight ... oops.
