'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

It has to be ditched, unless there are unique commando specials placed in it and some kind of scouting skills are placed in the Field Tactics tree, or some role-playing content to support it (all of which has been mentioned above). The 2.5 damage multiplier is just a bad idea all around for any weapon. Holding a certain weapon should not cause additional damage. If anything heavier weapons should help (Rifles make good melee weapons, butt strokes and bayonet thrusts).

The logic (if you can call it that) behind the 2.5x damage multiplier was not that our weapon does us more damage...it was that it takes 2 hands to hold our weapons, therefore we don't have a hand freeto defend with which leads to more damage done to us by melee attacks...other melee fighters (for the most part, exception being the 2h fighters) have at least 1 hand free to defend with. That was the explanation behind the 2.5x issue for Ranged Professions.

Also it is best to ask for big changes/fixes/things. If one asks for small/few changes, then only a few changes will occur. Ask for big/many changes, then some changes will occur, more than a small/few.

I totally 100% disagree...The Dev's are not just looking at fixes for our professions...they are looking at changes for all professions...and combine that with over all world/game updates/edits/fixes...Multiply that times the number of people complaining fixes aren't coming fast enough...Do you really believe that the dev's would be more inclined to pay the amount of attention required to just our profession as it would take to make big changes over little changes. Remember, the bigger the changes the more departments that have to be involved (graphics, animations, logistics, balancing vs other professions, world/environmental equations, etc)...Think about it as if you are a Dev...would you be more willing to make major changes to one professions, or make smaller changes knowing you could spread your time around to all the professions more as well as work on those major game updates...No contest...little steps beats big steps everytime...it's a problem of being to greedy which always leads to nothing or worse, the Dev's taking shortcuts on what they think we want to rush a fix out...and history has demonstrated this ALWAYS leads to us being worse off then before...

Remember why MasterSynn quit...he felt the Dev's weren't making the changes fast enough and there was no Dev responses to our changes....the things we were asking for back then weren't too different then some of the things we are asking for today...no ask yourself, what's changed?

A lot of interesting ideas here. What I'd like to see out of my HAR is splash damage, not a DOT effect. Let the special have a 10m radius effect or whatever would be reasonable. If we were to have two types of special attacks like the Flamethrower then I'd leave in Acid Single 1&2 for the stream effect and Acid Burst 1&2 for a radius effect to hit multiple targets. It'd be similar to Flame Cone but instead of a chance to hit everything in the cone it just hits everything within it's circle of effect.

Does Flameout really do that, or is that a joke?

Hey here's an Idea for a change -

What if we got a repeater weopon that did a lot of damage with a great variaty of specials but it was like some of the Musician Instruments that have to be set down...

Like the E-webs in the movie that had to be set up...

Great Long range - dense damage

but you have to set it down to use it and its harder to unequip it.

Just a thought

I would gladly run all my skillpoints back out going back to master commando if some of the great ideas in this thread were used.

Like many others I became a master and then left because it just wasn't worth the skill burn. I killed myself more times than not with protons because the radius wasn't correct.

Here are some changes and wishful thinking

- complete agreement with grenades changes and effects.

- Make it so a heavy repeater gun is for master only, I think there are fan too many FT's out there. Make it so a devastating weapon is available to few, not many.

- the dmg mod still here? what sense does this make again?

- please change the HAR, it has such potential.

- LP is still fun, but non-descript. Some specials would be neat.

I mostly just agree with the thread. Great ideas.

Oddly enough there is an item that stops the Burn effect.... Flameout made by Master Chef's. The only thing is I haven't seen one to buy, and only have seen it used, but the Imp told me they are expensive. 1mil for 5 uses or something like that; not sure if it's from lack of Chef's or the items needed. *Probably both*

Sorry but I have to call BS on this until someone posts here that they tried this and it worked. First, the Chef Correspondent never heard of this. Second, no one on the Chef boards has heard of this. Third, someone on the Chef boards tested this and it did not work.

While Chefs are rare, we are not yet extinct. Flameout is not nearly as expensive as you claim. It takes 15 reactive gas, 15 tubers, 10 silicastic ore and 4 identical sollustian gins (each of which requires 10 cereal, 5 metal and 5 reactive gas) for a total of 120 units of fairly easy-to-obtain resources. It is only makeable by a Master Chef. I think that I usually sell it for somewhere between 400 and 500 credits per use, but I don't have my price sheet in front of me.

If this actually works, I should would be happy to be corrected, but until it is verified, I am very skeptical.

Well, as a Commando, I had a few ideas for the reworking of the skill tree...

So the current tree goes Field Tactics, Heavy Support Weapons, Flamethrower, and Acid Rifle. Acid Rifle is a joke, since the Flamethrower beats it six ways to Sunday. Field Tactics was obviously supposed to be something else until the devs threw in Grenade certs and a couple scant Defense Vs. bonuses as an afterthought.

Here's what I would turn the Commando tree into:

Heavy Support Weapons - This line would remain basically unchanged, as far as I can see. It's the weapons themselves that need fixing.

Tactical Weapons - Combine Flamethrower and Acid Rifle into this line. They share the same qualities, so it would make sense. Acid Rifles need a special ability... perhaps they should have their AP upgraded, or maybe they should have a special Chemical Burn. It would do less damage than Fire, but it would lower the target's AP value or reduce its Special Protection and Effectiveness. On characters wearing armor (PC and NPC), take the same conditions and apply them exclusively to armor. ...Temporarily, of course. We wouldn't want people griefing others by ruining all the Composite. Throw in a bit of DOT as well, since I'm sure getting doused in acid has tosear a little bit.

Grenades - This is what today's Field Tactics really should be called. Fix the grenades, maybe move some certs around, and we're good here.

Field Tactics -Now that we've emptied out Field Tactics, let's make it a totally new and exciting thing that would actually help out commandos. We're used to surviving in the wilderness, so why shouldn't we have knowledge of the battlefield and the surrounding area? Terrain Negotiation, various Defense and Defense Vs. mods,Dodging and Blocking and Counterattacking... This line practically defines the word "commando".

This is just my opinion, though. I could be wrong.

I personally think Commandos should get almost an exact copy of the "stances" column from pistoleer, only using hw instead of pistols.

Who has to get ua4? commandos! who has to get 4 boxes of marksman and nothing else? PISTOLEERS! so why do they get uber defenses and melee special moves and we get stuck with 2.5x dmg from melee?

i acutally like all the ideas that you came up with in that post......i also like the grenade launcher idea......thats what i was thinking should replace the hand thrown grenade tree....god knows those things are horrible anyways..........and i like adding the dot damage to the HAR ....also make it have a cool noise...i could care less about the graphics that spew or do not spew out of it......but sound is intimidating....so..lets make it sound good .....some kinda or searing or sizzling sound possibly...something that would signify a burn...because afterall acid does burn

keep up the good work man....eventually they have to address our complaints and fix our bugs
