OK, this isembarrassing, but could someone please explain to me how skill mods or skill mod tapes work? I keep hearing about them, but I have never seen one, nor know what you do with it. If there is a thread on this topic, please point me that way.

Thanks!

Skill mods are the modifiers that affect your ability to perform a task. In the case of commandoes, all of our offensive modifiers are the different speed and accuarcy modifiers, such as +15 flamethrower speed. These mods as mathematical modifers decreasing speed or increasing accuracy by a certain percentage (I don't know the exact formulas, but I am sure they are somewhere on the boards). Now in addition to the inherent mods you can get up to an additional +25 in any skill modifier (with a few exceptions) by looting skill tapes off of NPC's, with more difficult NPC's yielding better tapes. There are two types of tapes, those that attach to clothes and those that attach to armor. People generally consider clothing tapes to be superior because they clothing usually degrades less frequently than armor. Also, only the highest modifier in a given piece applies and you cannot stack tapes (i.e. if you had a +5 speed tape and +2 speed tape you could not put them in the same piece of clothing/armor to get a +7 modifier). There is a thorough description of how these tapes work stickied in the tailor forum.

Would love to join you guys on TC, but I keep getting that unknown error crap and don't know how to fix it. Anyone know how to fix this?

Toss my name in the proverbial hat, if you can, to be one of the players to go to the special combat balance server.

Unfortunately I have no idea how they will choose which players will get to play ont he combat balance server yet...All I know for sure is that Correspondents will be there...the rumor is that game veterans will be allowed to play as well, but who knows for sure if that's true or what the definition will be for "veteran"...if I have my way, every Commando will have access...but I doubt even I have that type of power...lol...

I know some of you have already done this, but I would encourage more to do so...Create a character on TC and long into that charcter at a minimum of twice a week for at least 10 minutes or more...

The devs flagged people for the Jedi Server (TC2) by just flagging those who logged on to TC over a 2 week period...who knows, they may do the same for the Combat Test Server...And if they do, they'll make a complete copy of TC to paste over on the Combat Test Server (which would mean your armor, weapons, credits, skills, etc would follow)...so you might want to even spend a little time grinding, earning and stock piling some goods just in case...

As soon as I have any more news I will most definitely post it...

Although TH's response sounds like devs are taking a REALLY stupid path with commandos and heavy weapons, I don't think there is anything to comment on yet. TH has again given us an answer so vague that his real meaning is incomprehensible.

I also find that THoften doesn'tunderstand what the devs tell him (mostly because he doesn't play enough like all of us play and lacks context), and does a bad job of communicating the reality of what he does understand.

As such (and for once) I am going to refrain from commenting until I see a little more of what is planned. I know that will probably delay feedback until it is too late to comment (because the new system will be finished before TH decides we are worthy of any relevant information), but I don't know what else we can do...

The more I think about this, the more I feel that we should get the reloadable launcher in the hw tree, with ammo certs granted in up the tree and have the launcheruse the hw mods and tapes, with the base mods equal to or greater than the existing rocket launcher mods. Then they should just roll the HAR into the flamethrower tree, rename it the special heavy weapons tree, and then use what was the HAR column for whatever they are thinking. Or just delete the HAR from the game and pretend like it was just a bad dream.

Hooray, I am very happy to hear that commando's are getting some attention.

Personally, I don't mind too much what they change so long as they don't break my flamer!! I like all of the wepaons we have at the moment; the problem is that most of them are pretty useless (excpet the flamer).

The HAR could be a useful weapon if it did more damage and had lowerHAM costs. I think merging the HAR and flamer is a great idea. I like the idea of a new tree too. A tree similar to the BH pistols line so we can use the Launcher would be Ok, an asault rifle would be superb. And let us use rifle specials with the HAR please. An unarmed tree would be OK too that would give us some defence and maybe a knockdown.

I like all of the rockets/greanades we get but they are not viable weapons at the moment becasue they are too slow and do too little damage. A reloadable launcher would be the business. I would prefer if the skills required to use heavy weapons remained in the Commando tree and I certainly don't think you should get these before Novice Commando (was that a typo Garvin ?)

I feel that Commando's are not very effective against high end mobs because everything is resistant to heat. I often use TKA as more effective way to defeat stronger opponents. Hopefully this will be addressed in the CB (and give us some defence).

Commandos need some stuff to blow up too; like droids, trucks, tanks, turrets, buildings etc.

I have been holding on to my Commando skils in the hope we would get fixed and I can't wait to see what happens !!
