This comparison would be legit if the average stride in SWG was the same as in RL. Out here in the real world, the average person has a stride of about 2 feet. Seriously, go measure it - remember to start with your toe at zero and then measure at your heel, as that is the actual distance covered.

In SWG, one stride = one meter. So for 32 meters we're actually looking at a RL equivilant of 64 feet, or about 20 yards. In WWII both the American Flamethrower *AND* the British Flamethrower (both different designs) could both be used *accurately* at a range of 50 meters. Specifically, the American M2-2 Flamethrower that was used in the Pacific was rated with an effective range of 60 yards. Larger, vehicle mounted flamethrowers (example: M10-8, deployed 1963) has an accurate effective range of 200 meters, or 650 feet.

Clearly the flamethrowers in the game are WAY under-ranged when compared to even the WWII designs. Heck, even in WWI flamethrowers had an accurate range of 40 meters (German flammenwerfer is the cited example)

So take your pick: Our range should be farther because distance in-game isn't equivilant to real life, or the range should be farther because RL flame throwers have a MUCH greater range.

Actually a Stride is 2 steps so 1 meter is accurate. Btw a Military Step is 64".

If you wanna increase the range of flamethrowers because of RL issues, then every other weapon has to be increased. T-21's had a lethal range of like 200m. Do you really want Riflemen to have that kind of range?

i love when people try to use history to explain why Flamethrowers should have a longer range... i say give them the ability to shoot at 48 meters, but then for every time they get hit there is a chance the Flamethrower tank will get hit and explode, destroying the weapon and lighting the commando on fire... hey thats historcal enough for me.

u want range... get a rocket launcher.

Well, if you compare the range of an sniper rifle in reality and in game, and the flamethrower in realityand in game, if you use the same scale, I think your flamethrower should probably reach 2 - 3 meters tops (guessing, havent actually done the math.).

it's because our specials are so devistating that they must be used from 16m or closer. If I can set it up right, I can do an absurd amount of damage. This is against dumb targets in PvE, but still. If specials like flameCone were available from further out, it'd be too easy to use and abuse.
