mm Seems I missed this thread four weeks ago, and just as I spent the last three weeks getting this done from some WS on my server (I started ordering these BEFORE I went commando)
I pvp with em, and it's a huge difference...but even at +82 a HPBC can't hit a moving target
I'm really wondering what influence nym's loot has on the consumables

yea, I was wondering if the nump in damage might be a %, not just +20 (as they have such high damage)
The speed type might still be worth it to use though

It's possible the speed-type might be worth it, but I've never seen one.
Given that they're *that* rare, I'd *never* 'waste' them in a consumable, especially since most consumables will need about 5 identicals each time.

Great work Brilyn! For about 6 months I was a Master Weaponsmith/commando 0400 and I spent a lot of time playing around with building/using cannons but I never thought about using stocks on them because of the speed penalty. The real problem of heavy weapon accuracy (or lack thereof) is built into the weapon system itself-the lack of available accuracy modifiers. If I remember correctly (been awhile since I had commando) the accuracy modifiers for not only cannons but also FT's and HAR's is around +60. Compare that to carbines/pistols/rifles which have over twice the amount of accuracy modifiers. Compare, for example, the accuracy mods for carbines for a master BH/master carbineer-I don't know the totals offhand but I'm sure they're well over +120. Of course, the dev's made heavy weapons this way on purpose-commando's would rule if they got +120 accuracyon their flamers/cannons. So this is a balance issue. My philosophy back when I was a "demolitionist" was to counteract this deficiency with some basic tactics-
1. Get your target to be still-firing a cannon at a moving target is a waste of ammo. I used to accomplish this by: a) sending a pet/droid in first to engage the target-once it's settled down into either its ranged or melee attack it usually would sit still for long enough for me to manuver into ideal range. b) KD your target-low blow from smuggler line-or-for those who have BH carbines-fire knockdown-no better way to get your target still than KD-plus you get the 2X damage bonus (pretty nasty with cannons), and if your taget is huminoid-theBH carbine line with itsKD/dizzy you can pound away while they flop around. AND-there's no weapon switch delay when using cannons-KD/dizzy with your laser carbine-then immediately smack'em with a HPBC! c). suppression fire! get'em kneelin'!
2. ALWAYS try to fire from ideal range (+/-5). As mentioned above, using a pet/droid is very feasable in accomplising this.
3. Stun/intimidate your target-you have these as part of unarmed-wookiees (like me) have the roar-and if you have last ditch from dirty fighting that stuns your target. Also Full auto 1 from carbine line can induce stun. BH carbines are great for this. This lowers the defense stats on your target and allows better accuracy.
Using these tactics I had an accuracy rate of at least 80% (not counting block/dodge/counterattack). These were with cannons designed for speed (points per second was my philosophy-my fastest HPBC's would fire once per second!) and had an ideal accuracy of only around +15. I didn't have BH carbines (not enough skill points)but i did KD my target with lowblow (smuggler)
But I think Brilyn's work is great in the potential of using cannons in PvP. I've never done PVP but I think using the above tactics in PVP would not work because if a player has +120 in ranged defense I don't think it would matter much if they were not moving and stunned and intimidated and fired on from ideal range-your accuracy still wouldn't be very good with normal cannons. And against comp armor you'd better be hitting every frickin' time. BUT-maybe with a +60 ideal range accuracy-I think this might have potential...very interesting (/evil grin). I may have to stock up on materials for stocks...hey Brilyn, were those advanced stocks you were using of just standard ones? -Ateji, master weaponsmith/BH 0404, Bria galaxy.

Yup, Advanced Stocks.
Experimented on Range til it capped, then put the rest into the damage line to reduce the Speed. (I mean, who cares about +10 damage, with a 3k weapon??!?!?)

At what does it cap on the stocks?
And if you don't mind, I'm wondering what stats an LLC would give with imp stock and +41acc scope any idea?
Thanks
