Bestine...I remember my newbie days over there.
The Jawas...the man eating bloody jawas!!
About 1.5k meters beyond the east, there used to be immense spawns of fairly high level jawas (for the newbie player). A friend of mine, and I were out jawa killing...till one of them got me! This was back when corpse running was still in the game.
I ran back...got my corpse...and died!
I ran back again...didnt get my corpse...and died!
I ran back again...got my corpse, ran 300 meters...jawa warlord spawned on me, died!
I was very poor during this time so I couldn't clone either.
By this time, I was within 1k...and died another 5-6 times till I got within 200 meters of the cantina.
A jawa warlord aggroed me, and lagged RIGHT ontop of me, instantly killing me (at this point I had 1/1 on ALL ham bars)...I was just almost over the hill to safety.
The clone option didn't pop up...I thought they had Perma-death in the game (heard rumors at that time, this was like the first 2-3 weeks of Launch btw!). So I relogged in a state of panic...was able to clone -- but I got a msg saying an error occured in the transfer of my data, and corruption of my character was possible!!!
At this point, I was like HELL NO!!!! I didn't want to lose all my skills I spent a few weeks attaining! (Was working towards commando, plus I had the character name/look planned out weeks prior to launch!). Thankfully, nothing bad happened...and I survived to tell the tale!
Now thats, like my ultimate Newbie story =)

When the CU hits TC I'll probably head straight to Dearic/Nashal on Talus to escape the lag. Anyone else remember when Dearic was packed with newbs?

Rest Garvin, I got your back, as I used to back in the days when we got you knighted.
I think we can handle a totally rework of the system, as long as we can burn things...We made it this far, on pure burn mode didn't we?

When TC opens with the CU changes, be ready for some big suprises, both good and bad...all I ask is that you DO NOTreserve final judgmenet UNTIL you've fully tried out the changes...My personal fear is that some folks will see something they don't like or worries them and scream that the sky is falling...
If we do find something that appears wrong for Commandos (or overall), then we'll take time and build a case as to WHY it's wrong...we can then present that case to the Devs for them to reconsider...
I'm concerned that if we "over-react" to anything (over-react in the devs eyes) they'll shun us again like they did a long time back (it took us a long time before the Devs would even acknowledge us again after we flamed them away). The best thing we can do is rationally describe issues, explain why they are issues, and possible propose solutions...I'd also suggest bringing any issue you find back here to give Starnick a chance to address it...he'll likely know the reasons why the Devs might have set something up the way they did and how it could help as much as hurt us...or at the very least, he'll take the issue straight to the Correspondent forum where it will get the most attention.
I don't want anyone to think I'm suggesting there is a problem for Commandos in the CU...this is more of a "What If" type of suggestion when it comes to CU Concerns...The coolest thing, in my mind, is if while other professions have players who are "losing their minds", we present a cool calm and rational perspective that will seriously impress the powers that be...

Heed the advice of the Garvin, he's a very wise wise old commando!
Take all the testing you stuff you may not be expected to see (heck, Ill be surprised by a few things without a doubt...as not every minute detail can be possibly described in the core documents), with an open mind.
See you all on the frontlines!

Don't worry 'bout me. You gotta have a cool head to use a flamethrower. The only thing that will make me freak out is if we can't blow sh!t up... and I think we all know that won't happen. As long as our role is the big bad heavy hitters... I'm good. (Planning on keeping my master rifles/master commando template).
I've hade more than my share of testing experience (pretty heavy into the mod scene). Teamwork, communication, and rational arguments are the keys to getting commando where it needs to be.
