TH, am I hearing you correctly that modifiers from different profession will no longer be stacking in the revamp??? Thank god! That's the only way to start balancing this game, I am glad the devs went from the ground up on the combat revamp and are doing it correctly! Kudos to you guys.

While I am looking forward to the combat changes, I would also like to put forward some suggestions.

1. Please do not totaly negate defensive stacks. I would like to recommend a system of diminishing returns, where for example, values of over 100 only count for half the value, and those over 150 for 1/4 their value.

2. Also remember that there are offensive stacks as well. Pistol speed and accuracy leap to mind as an example, but not the only one. These stacks need to work the same way as defensive stacks to avoid the rush back to the BH/pistol/smuggler days. it was the amazing offensive stacks that begat the defensive stacking.

3. The real strength of the game is the skill system. It is great and should be encouraged.

Ok, then where's my "smelling salts" to cure dizzy/KD?

"Eye drops" to cure Blind?

"Alcohol" to cure Intimidate? (hehe, think beer muscles)

Etc, etc, etc...

Pick up some doc skills and you can cure yourself of all those states.....Er not intimidate though.

Doctors have cures to all of these. so do squad leaders.

You're right that they do, but the proposed solution to Fire DOT is a craftable "extinguisher" usable by anyone and a craftable food "Flame Out" that again can be used anywhere, anytime, by anyone.

where does it say that anyone can use a fire extinguisher? if you have the link, please post it so that i can bring myself up to date. not a flame, i am genuinely curioius. as i thought it was, they haven't said who or what can use the fire extinguishers yet.

Well, when this first was discussed it was mentioned that it would most likely be a craftable "tool" similar to weapon/'armor repair tools. I tried to find the discussion, but couldn't find it.

Anyway, I DID find some newer, more useful info in the Doctor forums. This is a dev response to the issue:

"·A cure for the On Fire state (listed here, although most folks think this ability should be available probably in the Medic levels.) "

So, I guess that they're looking into making it a Medic skill, which is a relief.

I hope that they keep it high in the Medic tree, maybe even Master. If it goes into Novice or low in the tree it'll still be too easily available.

Commandos don't have enough skill points to get into Doctor.

Diminishing returns really is the best way to go for both offensive and defensive stacks.

Pikemen, carbineers, commando heavy weapons, the cost of specials, HAM costs, all of that will be better when the combat balance is done

Every time TH has said better, what really happens is a nerf. Get ready for it. I've got my vaseline ready to lube up and take some of the burn out of it.

  • Yes there will be a fire suppression tool for Fire DoTs. It only makes sense that if you have a weapon, you have a counter measure. Currently, you need water to put out a fire DoT and there are none, which is why many players have asked that there be one.
  • No combat DoTs will stack anymore because some players were using them in PvP exploits and Combat Experience exploits. Players would run up, stack 3 or 4 fire dots on a MOB or another player and run away while the fire burned - - because there is no way to extinguish the fire. Then they would run back and fire a quick shot from a blaster and finish the kill. It was never intended to work that way.

First, I take exception to the use of the word 'exploit' for things like flame-and-run. Its just good tactics. If you want to make it less effective, that's one thing, but labeling it a cheat is really unwarranted. Things like tricking the game into letting you have 2 pets when you should only have 1, or duping credits, or using a /declare macro to shut down a base - THOSE are exploits.

The fact that this use of legitimate tactics is referred to by TH as an 'exploit' is the surest proof that the devs really, truly do hate Commandos and, at some level, hate anyone who's smart enough to design an effective character - they seem to think that playing the game well is tantamount to cheating.

Second - How nice of you to provide everyone with a defense against fire damage because, as you say, every attack ought to have a defense. That's wonderful. And you have, of course, provided something that gives similar immunity to mind bleeds! And to Dizziness! And to Knockdown! And to Mind Diseases! I'll have to grab me a crate of those because, like you say, every weapon ought to have a counter.

Come on now - this logic is being applied VERY selectively. I'm not surprised that Flamethrower is being scaled back... but this is absurd. This is a classic case of over-nerfing: you have a weapon that's too powerful, so you simultaneously weaken it 3 different ways. The result is that you go from overpowered to useless. Given the number of skill credits necessary to master Commando, it OUGHT to be the most powerful combat class. Now we'll be at the bottom of the heap, grossly less powerful than professions costing far fewer XPs.

TH

the problem is that with this impending combat balance, the game is getting harder and harder before any of the problems are being fixed with these professions.

Most of the combat problems have not change since launch so thats one of the pains, not much to report to devs 'same stuff is still wrong' seems pretty accurate and we players get no clue to whats going to happen, i mean if you don't know whats going to happen, simply say that, but right now we get this vague thing that we are told things will be better after the combat pass (whenever that is?!) but how about letting us in on how?

I know that alot of things can't be said right now and stuff but any information is helpful, you can see that for the most part my posts are constructive and i try to suggest some ways of going about things that could help, especially pikeman, i know that we did get to ask 10 questions and thats very cool, cant wait to hear a response on that.

to be 100% honest the game is getting better but the old problems are still there in a lot of aspects, and some of those got shelved for new content, my opinon a mistake but thats just my own 2 credits, honestly i would like to play as a Master Pikeman on TC sometime with you to show you just how messed up some of the stuff is. I know that would take a bit of time that you defitnaly are short of as is. THe problem is char copy isnt in yet is it?

I lose duels against, and I am not exagerating, every other combat profession, i have beaten some people but it is rare, very rare for me to win, the most common win i have in duels is against...other pikeman, i dont think one class should be so bottom barreled like this.

commando i hope that it does get better usage of its weapons, versatilty is a must, i mean a commando just sounds like it should hold power over other professions, i always thought of BH and Commando on nearly the same level, BH to be better one on one and speed, commando to be the ultimate support class and better at dealing with groups.

one last question: any status on the deal with TC where you said you would game wtih the correspondent and 10 of the profession?

Then is there no way to remove this DoT on incap? Just fire, leave the others alone.

And you play on TC as a master commando? I live on TC as a master commando.
