Also, thats given if they're referring to 100% AoE. For a time we were to have limited AoE, which was almost as bad as our current pedicament since most or all of our weapons did AoE without any recourse, but this time with LESS damage (and originally, a LOT less damage). The only way our AoE can function is 100%, which I take is what they're talking about (and the option to combine it with hvy attacks)
In response to th devs argument that to have the games most powerful attack with the most powerful weapon would be unbalancing.
First off, this already happened before, Strafe shot 2 with a T21.
The reason this was unbalancing was that It came from a single proffession. meaning that you could have max offense, then combine with say 4/4/4/0 fencer and 0/0/4/0 pistoleer, and get max defense. medic 0/0/4/0 (stim d's or low e's) or medic 4/0/0/0 (quickheal) rounded it out.
Those days are gone.
The fact that you have to take the master level weapon from one proffession and combine it with the master level of another is balance in and of itself. You can't have it all anymore.
Furthermore, combining say smuggler and commando would not be unbalancing, Crowd control with punch, by doing this, a smuggler limits a lot of his options. He can't be an effective healer. His only real defense is his ability to keep his opponents off balance.
