Thread: Proposal from a Jedi / MComm: Give all Professions a Progression Tree

5mil, 10 mil, 20 mil, 40 mil, 80 mil?
There's a small Rodian Commando in our guild that could grind1.2 mil every 3 hours... Now I know he's crazy, but that would mean he could get to Tier 1 in 3or 4 days.
Again, serious question: Is that cool if he wanted to grind it? Or should it take longer? What's a reasonable amount of game play balancing playing & grinding? Should it take longer than the Village?
Yeah, the costs are a bit high... Jedi is obtainable though a lot less time than that... Yet we'd still be weaker.
Proposal: Give ALL Elite Professions a "progression tree" like the Jedi have.
No... just... no. The last thing this game needs is more pointless grinding just to keep up with the Jonses. That's why I hate Everquest with the passion of a thousand fiery stars.
Take the jedi out of the GCW and put them in a seperate JCW (Jedi Civil War)system. Current balance problems between jedi and everyone else are solved, while retaining some degree of continuity.
If jedi aren't fighting anyone else, there's no reason we have to compete with them. BH balancing would be the only potential issue.
As far as I'm concerned, a master commando is a master commando. That should be the pinacle of this profession, and mastery of any other elite/standard profession should be a similar pinacle.
More Grinding to keep up = Bad
You see, the inherent problem with this suggestion is that it rewards a small community of elites that will do whatever it takes to have the best stats; those who can afford to put in lots of time into grinding. At the same time, this completely screws over the casual players. New encoutners end up balanced for the 'elite' *cough* DWB *cough*, while casual players who have filled out their template are left completely in the dust and left at a disadvantage... unless they want to grind even MORE. There's a lot of folks who don't play this game to grind. I myself enjoy PvP, RP, and story-based questing more than grinding (who doesn't, really?) I can't doo that if I have to grind to be able to compete with those who have obscene amounts of free time they can devote to the game in order to have the best stats.
IMO, whether a character is a 'hero class' should be something based purely on the skills of the player, not something determined by a spreadsheet. It takes more skill out of the game and further rewards those who wouldn't be able to cut it on a level playing field, yet have a lot more time to waste to compensate.

Personally I love this. Jedi are seen to be 'the ultimate power in the universe' although thats FAR from true. Most Jedi couldn't kill a droideka, but apparently are supposed to walk all over every 'lesser' being. Besides the fact, with all these jedi running around...

The Jedi Order
A noble order of protectors unified by their belief and observance of the Force, the Jedi hearken back to a more civilized, classical time in galactic history. Their order is ancient, spanning over a thousand generations. As the Galactic Republic throve and grew over the centuries, the Jedi came to serve it as guardians of peace and justice.
...................(skipping a bunch of paragraphs).................................
When the Empire came to power, the Jedi order was exterminated by Emperor Palpatine, and his Sith Lord apprentice Darth Vader. During the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Jedi were all but extinct. A few survivors, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Jedi Master Yoda, were able to train the first new Jedi in a generation.

What's interesting is someone posted a similiar thread in the GCW Forum. And the Jedi are all flaming it.
I just read the post, and everyone seems to like it.
Though that's a pretty good indication that SOE won't implement it.
There goes that theory
Anyways, this...and other elite-elite ideas have always been interesting, but I seriously doubt it'll happen. It would be nice to make jedi not the only alpha class, and potentially draw MORE folks to the game because of the flexibility. If you want an end game, you pretty much have to go jedi...and thats something that SWG was always about, flexbility...so shouldn't the end game be like that too?
It should never be a must, rather an option to go and do something to get even better and even more specialized.

Well said, but it's kind of sad to see a Cor beaten down about the game's non-Jedi route![]()
I've seen other ideas of much greater detail floated out there. My goal with this idea was to keep it simple in order to simplify implimentation (the Dev's biggest concern), and then asking the communityif the concept in this current level of simplicity warrents consideration.
It seems by the responses the post has gotten, even though the concept is simple (no huge new trees), it seems to satisfy some of the desire for further non-Jedi progression. If this is the case, we as a community & our Cor's should consider pushing the concept of a system like this to the Dev's IMO. I'm not saying this is the system, but it seems the community doesn't need a huge new system. A simple, well thought out one will do. So Dev's, I hope you're reading
GIVE US NON-JEDI PROGRESSION!!! WOOT!!!
And a big congrat's StarNick
You are much braver than I...

That doesn't mean none of us like it, or it doesn't come up every now and then though
