Hehe, that sounds pretty cool Tac, and I even fiddled around with the prof calc to come up with one of my own....

Master Commando

Swordsman 0-0-3-0

Combat Medic 0-0-0-4

Carbineer 0-0-4-0


Giving me:


175 Melee Defense

140 Ranged Defense

20 General Ranged Speed

95 General Ranged Acc


Plus, it allows me to single out one person with Paralysis, then hit them with armor break, then improved charge shot, then finish up with perhaps overcharge shot, then apply several debuffs to them, making it harder for them to escape from me MUAHAHAHA!!!!

Heh, here's a couple stacker templates I just came up with.


Melee Centric Stacker


Ranged Centric Stacker


I think they both suck. The offensive potential of those templates really really blow and they don't gain much defense for it (about 100 ranged and melee defense).

I think I've settled on this template:


Master Commando


Master Carbineer


Rifles 4-4-0-0



It doesn't give me a root shot, but does allow for me to lie in wait for some people, KD them, and get off a shot or two before setting off a mass snare with knee-cap shot and a ASL hehe....or maybe suppression fire if the devs ever get it working properly lol. Plus, if the devs could fix grenades, I'd even be able to use a cryo grenade to snare .

I am working on Master Squadleader and Pistoleer 4000. I wont be a nuker but hopefully the Squad Leader skills will make up for it

I finally decided on a template. I have a handy html doc like the ones I clickied for the defense stacker templates but I can't seem to connect to my host for some reason so I'll just post what it is.


MCommando/TKM/4000 Combat Medic. That'll give me good offensive and defensive skills as well as some healing. Fits with the bio I'm working on for my toon as well

I am really intrugued with Commando but from all I read the damage output is minimal. I want to go TKM with Doc 4004 for the healing, buffs and innate armor. With that start I can actually get Commando 4400. Is that even worth the effort? From all I have read it isn't and I'd do better with some of the Sword/Pike specials. But the ability to use Grenades and LBC are pretty cool if they are going to be useful from a damage perspective. I've read in other threads that the LBC is better than the Flame column......true?


Everything I read here talks about Master Commando mixed with pistol/smuggler - just wondered if this template was worth it!

Uh, everything in this thread has master commando because this is the template thread for the Commando guild (Vode Inya) started on Starsider. It's not a generaly template thread despite my derailing... sorry for that! Raanan needs a spanking.


To answer your question though, what people don't seem to understand post CU is, while you can use pretty much any weapon, there are still skill mods to take into consideration. My main toon, as a master commando/master smuggler, can use pikes but I wouldn't do it because I'ld suck with them. Post-CU, to be good with your weapons, you really have to choose whether you want to be ranged-centric or melee-centric otherwise, you get crap skill mods for the amount of skill points you use. The only primarily ranged profession which has any benefit for melee use is smuggler and honestly, it doesn't give much.


It looks to me as if you want to be primarily melee. If that's true, don't bother with commando. We have nothing for you. Grenades suck (I'm told. I haven't used them yet post CU).
