Thread: Assuming Commando skills worked, how would they rate in PvP?..opinions needed.
Commandos will not be good in PvP. Ultimately, if you want to be a "killer" PvPer, there is one dominate template.
Imperial.
Be a human Imperial, take TKs, Pistoleers, and any other class you can think of defensive bonuses, throw in some medical stuff to keep you alive, and faction your butt off to earn 3 AT-STs. That set will beat any other profession combination. No one on the rebel side will even be able to scratch you.
I understand what you are saying, but the problem is there wont be any large scale pvp without AT-STs running around. I am not throwing anything in randomly. The poster asked if commandos will be good in PvP. Because "good" is relative to how tough others are, I replied that Commandos will NOT be good in PvP unless they are imperial, with AT-STs.
Even if they have AT-STs, they still will not be as good as a pure defensive character and healer.
I understand where you are coming from. Commandos, in theory, "should" be able to take down an AT-ST, but they cant, not now, and unless they nerf AT-STs super and I mean SUPER hard (which I hope they dont), a commano without one will be running away his entire life (that is if the AT-ST attacks someone else).
If you have not fought an AT-ST, please go try to do so. They one shot kill you. If you have the best gear in the game right now, they will two shot kill you. Unless our specials do 7500 per hit to an AR3 foe (which they dont even come close), a commando will be meaningless in PvP.
The way MMORPGs work is simple. People find the "best" PvP class, and dominate, until they have to change it to make it balanced. In this game though, its not supposed to be balanced. The empire is supposed to own the rebels. To insure that, they gave imperials awesome PvP pets. This has the effect of making no class, including the commando, good in PvP. Being "good" is solely determined by the number of AT-STs that the imperials can field.
Its not "adding anything in" I dont think. It is giving an honest, PvP experienced answer to the question presented.
Question: How would commandos rate in PvP?
Answer: Insignifigant, unless they are imperial with AT-STs.
I went to..mmm..Theed I think and there were like 30 imps having their way with people as the zoned in etc.
I go clone and walk on over. Heal a Rebel to get a Tef.
Of course, I get killed. 30 vs 1.
Ahhh..but now I can come back.
Flamecone2.
Since 30 were bunched together I hit 20 or so. Die.
Walk on back again. Oh, the complaining. I wait for the fire to die out and the 250 wounds to be inflicted.
Repeated this two more times.
Then comes the 4th time.
Muahahhaa.
I...one measely rebel, kill 30 imps. Sure 4 people earned faction off of me. But I got 30 imps killed AND 750 wounds that needed healing.
Hmm, well I'm just gonna throw this out because I have both a BH and a Commando. My first was commando and I loved the Eye shot in PvP. Even with the Dam reduction I still can make short work of most people since many combat classes go short on the mind pool.
But I made a commando on Shadowfire and took rifleman as my second class. I use a spraygun with an attack speed of 1.7(sliced) and use Headshot 3. I take down people just as fast as my BH. While fighting against BH's on Shadowfire I have had about 50% rate of success ( haven't counted every time I died or won but that is close) so I don't think there is that much of a difference. Plus I get to use weapons with big explosions and little damage ( whenever we get a resource reset so our weaponsmiths can make me my commando weapons)
In all I think if you want to survive in PvP you have to be smart, use terrain when possible and hopefully hit your target more than they hit you. Though against AT-ST's I agree with the previous poster you don't stand a chance.
Well so I'm off and have fun!.
