LOL You're a better man than I
My Wife flies with a mouse, insists it'd be waste for her to get a joystick...I have a hard time just watching her do it.

Some people prefer using a mouse in jtl. Myself, I haven't used a mouse in a space sim since WIng Commander 2, so I'm too fond of my joystickby now.

I was a joystick person ever since I started flying sims. Then my Sidewinder got misplaced. Went out and got a Saitek Cyborg. Flew in it for a little bit, now it's a nice dust magnet.
Personally, I agree with Higginsis. I can turn so much sharper with my mouse then that Cyborg can allow. Sure, it can snap around nicely, but it just seriously lacks the precision of a mouse. I think it's something about it's spring-based recentering. That thing seems like it's just a tad too strong for finer movements.
But, it's all personal preference. It actually sounds like you should just get a new mouse. I've occassionally had issues with mine, then I proceed to open it up and talk about nasty. Little cleaning later, it's back to being pristine.

I love my mouse/keyboard set up. I have changed most of the keyboar keymap to get commands most useful to me as close to my fingers as possible.

Have you tried increasing the size of your Mouse Deadzone and slightly decreasing your Mouse sensitivity? The idea behind doing that is to make it easier for you to get from "turning" position where your cursor is out wide, to a "stable" position where you stop turning and don't start overcorrecting.

i used to laff at the thought of using a mouse and the ppl who did it but then I was too lazy to plug in joystick one time and havent gone back.. plus it helps play and practice for other games like planetside where you aim with the mouse so it kinda relates i guess in a way...
its really hard to say whats better i think it just comes down to the person but i just decided i'm going out and buying like one of those 15 button mouse or how ever many i can find... that way i can PVE all lazy like...
IMO starting with any joystick/gamepad is better until you can get a ship that can take alot of abuse.. but you can get agile too with a mouse/keyboard, just a little harder it seems..
