Unitl I joined a guild and felt as if I wasn't able to contribute my share to the group I loved being a Ranger.
If Ranger had the combat skills to go along with the boy scout skills I'd still be a Ranger.

Ranger is easily my second favourite prof in the game. You´re fast, can harvest from animals, can use camo to hide and you can build some pretty awesome camps. Not as sweet as a good flamer, all things considered, but still a real neat prof.

How come barely anyone is a ranger? Is it a super hard profession to get? Or when you become a ranger than you cant really have combat skills?

Hardly anyone is ranger becasue the devs inadvertantly made them useless by:
1) Allowing anyone to pull out a droid, pet, vehicle without a tent (makes survival line of scout and ranger 100% completely useless)
2) Adding terrain negotiation and burst run food (makes scout exploration line more important than the ranger wayfaring line)
3) Adding maskscent clothing (making camoflage not necessary)
4) Adding harvesting droids and food to increase personal harvesting ability (making the rnager harvesting bonuses meaningless)
5) Increasing wild spawns so the once rare creatures no longer require rangers to find (one of the most useful ranger skills in 2003 for locating Krayt, and other rares).
But in the Fall of 2003, as a master pistoleer/master ranger, CH it was tons of fun (before buffs and armor were rampant).

Best way to get survival experience for ranger and scout is to do it last. Harvesting everything you can (but mostly meat and bone). Then max your trapping expereince (make your own traps). By crafting traps you get a little survival expereince. Then for the survival expereince, get 3 friends (with 4 people in the camp you can get max experience in about 5 minutes) to sit in your camp. While sitting you should be crafting the highest level of tents you can, that will give you survival experience. Every 5 minutes simply take down the camp and put up a new one. No really good macros to do this, but it only takes about 2 hours to get the scout tree, and maybe 4 hours to get the ranger tree.

"everyone" ? If I remember correctly, "everyone" wants Commando/SL or Commando/BH. I haven't seen anyone mention commando/ranger, infact will there be enough skillpoints for all that? Obviously I'm referring to the CURB templates.
I love trekking amongst the wild as a ranger and make credit selling meat and hide to doctors and armorsmiths, the ranger grind is rather slow but easy.

Some of ranger could be fun with Commando to me, but the only thing I really use is the terrain negotiation. I wish we had the same terrain negotiation as CM's or Explore III so I wouldn't have to spend the skill points in it (As of right now I can only have Explore I with current template of Master Commando/Master Rifleman). I just feel that a Commando should not have to slowly trudge up a hill (Read: Combat on dathomir sucks without terrain negotiation).
The camo kits would be fun if even for RP as it seems mask scent with mask scent clothing actually breaks less. Field bases are cool, but if you enter combat they disband.
Always made sense to me that terrain nego would be in the Field Tactics line... but oh well.
After the CU, it looks like some kind of Commando/Smuggler hybrid on one toon and a Commando/BH on the other. If ranger had a lower sp cost... I might consider it, but until they get some love, it wouldn't be for me.

Master Commando and Master Ranger is nice, but I'm looking forward to Master Commando and Master Creature Handler. Get a pet with dizzy, and one with knock down, then set it on fire, that way you get the flopping fish flammbe. hehehe
