I just want to know why this would be such a great combo. Everyone wants it so bad. Doesent ranger give the ability to track npc's? So what does that have to do with commando?

It's a cool template. the terrain mods cancel out the penalties get from carrying eav weapons, we can run around and hide, plus we can set up base camps to attack our enemy!

i started game as a ranger then came to commando.
ranger is fun to be, commando is fun for another reason. It would be my favorite template, pretty much self sufficient. Make tons of credits, blow something up, then harvest it.

What penalties for carrying weapons?
By the way, ranger is a ton of fun, I am assuming that the CURB will actually make traps more useful, the tracking is more than just NPCs, you can track creatures and players as well. The tracking also is more fun than the silly BH droids, this system gives you better results as you get higher in the tree, eventually you get direction and distance (say 100m N, but North is about a 30 degrees coverage on the compass).
Then there are the people that think rangers are military rangers, not wilderness survivalists. Thus commando and ranger would fill that role.
I can see military guilds having many ranger/commandoes, squad leader/commandoes, and smuggler/commandoes. Along with the normal combos of various ranged professions.

You don't notice you run slower when carying a heavy weapon or a rifle? I do. It's not much, maybe 2-3% but it is there.

I have never done ranger because that long a$$ grind up the survival tree but have always wanted to give it a try. I love to harvest hides and stuff. Kinda helps since my alt is an Architect. And commando is the best profession I have ever played so it would be nice to be able to master both.

i could totally imagine it now:
conceal yourself with a camo kit, lurk up to your target. when you're several meters out, you throw a trap (hopefully rangers will have some useful ones post CU) that stuns your target. You hurl a proton grenade immediately after, sneak up while taking out your HAR (it'll be useful then) and blast it with acid before it even realizes what's happening
/sigh
i can dream, can't i?

and it has been heavily hinted it will get worse with the CURB.
Equip the t-21 and your molasses. (anyone actually ever carry a m-249? You don't run as fast as the other guys, trust me).
Pull out that pistol thought and its like carrying a walking stick, nothing to slow you down but your own 2 feet.
I too started out as a ranger and switched to commando.. If commando became a little more viable as a profession on its own (especially against high end mobs) I would definately consider switching back to ranger. I sure do miss those terrain neg. mods and my high tech field bases.

For me it's just the idea that it's now a possibility...before we couldn't take any of Ranger and still be a Master Commando...we won't be able to Master Ranger though unless their skill point cost pre-reqs drop (which is something their Community is HIGHLY against)...
I believe they are in line for a revamp after the CU, but adding their terrain abilities, traps and tracking would probably be especially fun for the Solo Commando player (as well as have definite group desirabiliy)...I've always wanted to try out the tracking ability especially...imagine being able to find the creature you wanted to kill without having to run around searching everywhere (only to usually find some group has beat you to it)...

I always thought that was an optical illusion since the arms weren't moving. I never seemed to trail behind anyone (but I normally have terrain neg in my templates, ever since running those horrible 10k delivery missions that first weekend of launch).
