Thread: CH Change has people in uproar over Commando Profession

Commandos are supposed to be the most respected and feared form of warrior on the Star Wars battlefield (not including Jedi). Creature handlers are supposed to provide mounts for labour and transport. As it is, Commandos are, from what I've seen and been told, good, but still broken, while CH masters still have pets that outclass some elite combat masters.
When almost all fighting done in the SW universe is with 'a good blaster at your side', I believe the CHs should feel lucky (I know I'd feel **edit** right guilty) that their profession is as powerful as it is in combat. Were it not, I'd dare say it'd go the way of the DE, with the exception of those who want an creautrecompanion with them in the game regardless of combat prowess, most would be Commandos or BHs right now.
Here endeth the rant.
This isn't true. Not even close. Pets have never come close to what an elite combat profession can do. Most elite combat professions can deal with pets and make them a non-issue just fine. They were never powerfull in combat... in PVE or PVP. It takes no more than Ranged II from the marksmen tree to deal with any given pet.
The ONLY advantage they had... is that they had "meathshields". They could give the mob something else to go beat up on... which left the players little to do but shoot up everything with no risk. The creatures in and of themselves never killed anything. This is not combat power..... this is a shield... dont be mistaken.
Creatures in SWG may have been nerfed... but really they were really only nerfed in terms of they're roles as "meathshields". For the most part although there are alot less armored creatures and the "good" pets have all had they're armor and resistsreduced.. nearly every pet also had they're dmg increased or made to be more consistent. In effect more combat power.
In addition CH's have been given creature combat specials... Or rather the ability to call upon demand a creatures specials... Such as poisons and diseases, intimidates, posture changes, knockdowns... stuns.. etc.. Before a CH could only hope his pet would use such an attack. But now it can be called upon demand. Think of a TKA who has kiting problems... now if he has a GSP he can send the GSP to go chase down his enemy, force a posture change on him, use a BDQ to poison the poor guy.... and then run up and TKA him. This isn't less combat power.. This is MORE combat power.
Lastly... things are changing in favor of BE pets. If everything being said about what a BE can do now is accurate... BE's ought to be able to make some really nice pets, with tradeoffs between dmg and "shield" ability, also balanced by experimentable class levels.Pets that rival anything that could be found in the wild (pre-patch).... In addition CH's will be able to use Kimogolia's too (BE Made). Anyone ever get a look at the dmg potential of those? They are a creature version of an ATST.
Here's a better thread from the BE forum

Creature Handlers nerfed? Not really... Changed for the better? I sure as hell think so.
After looking at the stats of the BEd level 70 Kimos that CHs can now control, I'm genuinely puzzled how they could possibly think they're underpowered. It continues to regularly blow my mind.
Commando, on the other hand is still1/2 broken. The FT and HW lines are nice, but there's no interdependency between the various branches, no LP branch, and the HAR/Grenades are of marginal usefulness.
A nerf? I think not. Commando is in line for some more lovin' from where I stand.
/salute to ALL of us who do our OWN fighting.
Long range, close-range, hand-to-hand... we take, we hold, and we repel the assault.
God bless the Commandos.

............ Just what creaures have you been using, wild durnis!?
I've lost count of theamount of times I've been taken down by a grand wrix, rancor, mauler or some sort of wierd ass spider or beatle. I've been half way up to pistoleer master and hadBH pistol 2 (eyeshot) and still been tossed asside as if I were less than bantha fodder. I'll admit thatthe situation is notmaster vs master, but Idon't know ifmy opponents were masters of CH and I can't imagine being master would make that much of a difference, only serve to prolong my life to give me enough time to curse profusely at the creature attacking. And even if I DID defeat the creature, I'd still have it's master to deal with and if they're the PvP junkies I've seen going around with creatures, they're gonna have some elite combat profession aswell. End result=me and my allies dead.
Things may have changed dramatically recently, I wouldn't really know given that I've abstained from PvP where ever possible for exactly the above reasons. However, lately I've seen pets hold their own against several pickets at a time, vile drenched quenkers, force sensatives on Dant, the list goes on.
If I am wrong in this and things have truely changed, then my apologies, but I truely am not seeing this ingame.
Guys please keep in mind that this change to pets/creatures is one of FOUR major game mechanics changes going through over the next couple of months. If you wait till all changes are made THEN your flames and rants will have a bit more merit. Right now it is like calling for a verdict from the jury after only hearing the prosecutions side of the story.
Oh and someone please make my HAR more than a pop gun.
Cim Taurus
Huwipa Alliance
Chilastra Galaxy

EXACTLY...
Fact is we are only 1/4 th of the way through what TH described as major changes in combat in SWG. We need to just take what is given to us and have fun. IF in 3 or 4 months from now we are still FUBAR then I think we really do have a problem....
"So far i lik eth echanges to CH, i am 0-2-4-0 Commando and 4-4-2-4 CH and will be Master Ch and 0-0-4-0 Commando ina about a week."
thank you shadow. this is exactly why im trying to get the flame dots out of the grenadeer trees.
Nothing says more about getting master level firepower in 1 tree than those willing to spend such a huge amount of points in master marksman and unarmed4 just to get one tree in a proffession because it provides the greatest firepower that proffession provides..which also happens to be one of the strongest in the whole game.
Regarding the Bioengineered pets, even those of us without any Creature Handler skills will be able to have some decent pets again. Provided, of course, that we have some mad scientist friends.

I am just happy I can solo Bol lair without being sent to the clone center from too many incapacitations.... and thats with my Pistol skills. With my flame thrower and some well placed grenades to pull with (just for the little extra combat xp) I can take down a spawn in no time. I even tried it with my acid rifle, but almost fell asleep during the refresh of attacks.... ![]()
I am happy with the changes to creatures. When I mastered CH I was amazed that I could takethree grondii around and solo anything. Well I could do that before getting master, but still. I was taking on Ancient Bull Rancors with a minute and a half downtime to heal pets between kills. 250-300 resources/kill and you could run away 5 or 6 times before you had to start beating on the lair to get them to respawn. Mad amounts of xp, both critter and heavy weapons, and these were level 18 pets.... Solo without pets and just commando skills, isnta death. Now we have a fighting chance.
