Yeah, Ill probably grow to like it once I continue to learn more about it with hands on. Usually I balk when something's really wonky, and this was really wonky (especially grouping LOL)


I so want to get back on (havent been able to since I crashed last...I keep getting these weird blue screens - I have an idea it may be because I updated my ATI Radeon driver earlier today so I could play Republic Commando...if thats the case, dammit Im getting a Nividia vid card soon, Im sick of the ATI

Is the Overall Impression thread. I posted my general feelings there

I'm not sure why the Flamethrower Cert is Flamer 3 (unless they want us to grind with launcher pistol and rocket launcher up that branch?)

I think we are supposed to be doing less damage and have higher HAM than a Riflemem - according to the Diagram, we're not really classified as heavy damage dealers, I think our role in the CU is to provide elemental damage (like a wizard)

Having played a Commando when the game was brand new (Maybe someone remembers me on this board?) but then having to become a stacker as the game progressed, Im excited to get back onto Commando and test the game for live.

I like the fact that most of our weapons now are constant use, but I do not like there are no specials. We have such unique weapons, we need specials for them.

I like how things are going for commando so far, like the massassi knuckler, grenades actually doing pretty good damgae, most weapons non disposable , Though we may not have any specials for Commando I think we should do pretty good even without them.....if its intentional. As for melee combat I love those spark effects very cool and all the graphical improvements aswell, and gaining Health everytime you train in a combat skill isnt too bad either.

so I take it I wasnt the only one who got booted out of the game?

my ATI works fine (radeon 9800pro, got to love rich aunts when it comes to birthday presents)

Anyways, the more I play this system...the more I enjoy it. I simply love the grenades now.


Btw - speaking on Riflemen and Commandos...I took a gander at things again, the T-21 has around 261 dps, just energy...if you count elemental and base dmg, we have on average around 220-230 dps...and our FT around 240-250 dps. So I guess its not as bad as I thought before


Btw 2 - We're Heavy Damage Specialists, so...Hvy Dmg is sorta a big role with us

Yep. Today...


... all Commando weapons except grenades are equippable like normal weapons. The only consumeable commando weapon is the grenade. The artists did a very good job of fixing up the equippable heavy weapon models. The effects are also pretty neat.

I was online for a while, until I was unceremoniously DB'd by a hermit. My apologies to DrMonoxide and Pinpoint, both of whom I left hangin'. Was CTD'd while cloning, now I can't get back in.

My initial impressions are...ah.....varied. I need some time to let it all settle in.

Suffice to say that it's....BUGGY! You can use nearly all elite ranged special attacks as a novice marksman atm....so whip out your CDEF and CrippleShot that Nuna....otherwise it'll kill you.

I'm not kidding. ONE nuna took out me, DocMonox AND PinPoint.

The group-status window is busted all to heck and back....HAM states dont update, so you have no idea if anyone in your team is near death till you click on em. Plus, it's HUGE now and takes up alot of real estate on the screen. Further, it auto-collapses, stacking everyone in your group into one bar, so that you constantly have to re-size it.

/warcry, /intimidate and /berserk all work at Nov Bralwer, but you aren't granted the certs for em or the little toolbar Icons...so you have to marco 'em and add them that way.

Sometimes when you use COB, it seems to stop you from doing any damage to your target....

XP seems to be very EQish...no matter WHAT we killed, we all got the exact same amount of XP, regardless of how much individual damage we did to our target.

No way to tell if you are in combat, or for that matter, if anyone else in your group is in combat....save for the msg in groupchat that says "HELP!". NONE what so ever, unless the music happens to start.

States applied to target are NOT shown in the target window...also, can't resize the target window. Gonna be VERY annoying for the mobs with the uber long names....when you are off a distance and tabbing through them to see which one has (a Nightsister Elder) behind her name.....no room in the window now for that to show.

Brawlers suck. Period. Marksman level 5X as fast due to the fact that they aren't constantly chasing a mob that is running off 80m. Unarmed is worse now than it was before. At UAI, you get COB....which so far as I can tell, does absolutely Jack. There is no armor cert'd at any Nov/Starter profs....only once you hit the Novice box of an elite or hybrid...so prepare to take a pounding.

Also, whenever you see the little floatie "-Tethered-" over a mob...get ready to chase it. It aint tethered, it's about to bugger off.

Agro is busted. You can be attacking a mob for quite a while before it finally goes into combat with you.

Sometimes you just plain doint do ANY damage....you and the mob just stand there smacking/shooting each other...not missing, but not doing any damage either.

Did I mention we cloned....ALOT! Dwarf Nunas are something you run in fear from. I ain't kidding. As I said...ONE of 'em took all three of us out. Also took three of us to kill (a settler)...and that was with one of us using the 'sploited marksman skills.

Mobs with 400 health hit you for 150 damage....you hit them for 30ish....if you are lucky. At UA I, I had a whopping 1050 Health and stuff 1/3 my health was taking me out left and right if I tried to solo it.

I don't like the new 'magic' heal. It feels just like that...magic.

Sorry...done ranting now. I'll copy past this over to the "CU Impressions" thread while I wait for it to die down a bit and see if I can get back on.

Sound effect for Unarmed attacks sounds like I am beating a soggy drum.

Somethings I like....the new animations for ranged attacks are nice, as are the sound effects. Ummmm....gimme a sec...Im thinking....

Keep in mind, these are my INITIAL IMPRESSIONS....gathered over about 2 hours of play. I'm not saying it it's good or bad, it just appears to me to pretty dang broke atm.

inda disapointed made me feel like logging off after a few minutes,,, Very childish,,, the text popping up was lame,,,,

1. to childish

2. the icons are really lame and dumb the look is horrid

3. I WANT A COMBAT QUE and a way to tell if we are in combat

4. GIVE BACK THE OLD CON system

5. WHY IS THERE NO COUNTERATTACK, Dodge, or block and no def vs skills,,, some spent lots on these

6. CAN WE HAVE A FEW NON CU SERVERS THAT WE CAN TRANFER CHARECTARS TO,,,, I am really not likeing this so far at all,,,

7. THE ATTACK ANIMATIONS ARE HORRID<,, look so cheesy


why changed the whole game,,, why ruin the gameplay we have had for the last 2 years,,,, we all play SWG because we liked SWG not because we hoped it would be more like WOW or EQ2,,,,

the new combat system sucks,,,,

And why convert all of our items if its just not nessecary ,,, damn the more i log onto TC5 the more angry i feel,,, im going to go play some on radiant and pretend for the next month there is no CU

Ok you guys fix things lol. See ya guys tomorrow evening maybe in Entha.

I would coment but have no idea what things are like now. Also. I believe you guys are all novices right? Ya you guys aren't going to be killing spice fiends. Though not being able to kill a Chuba is scary. And what's this about no specials? Is the flamethrower going to become a real flamethrower that just fires nasty bursts? That's cool. But remember Meters in this game are like feet. Cause a TKM can't swing at somebody 18 feet away lol. Commandos should be able to fire their Flamthrowers from at least 20M away or 30M. Uh Grenade stacks of 50 is what I would think things to be closer too and at least semi realistic. What's this about RLs changing. Hmm just hope it looks like a Bazooka. I will enjoy carrying it!

Now to what Garvin said. Yes Commando is an everything profession. But it should not just be a power up thing. It should be a role. Yes I understand your suppose to complement everything with something else. But does that mean to be any good at combat we need to dabble all in Combat stuff?

Well I won't say too much. Mostly Medic concerns me cause I have a lot of SP there cause I gotta be able to heal myself up. And what of Master Marksman? Is that going to be worthwhile? I still kind of like my old template. I may convert into a BH since theory is 9 Damage, 7 Defense, 2 Crowd. Which should be pretty decent and killer in one on one fights.

As long as I can fight a couple Rebel Troopers (Like 3 or 4) with a flamethrower at Master I think I'll be ok.

Had an easier time of getting around at launch. Not impressed with the new system.

Looks like you will need to balance the game now. Just way to hard to get past novice marksman. Admittedly I only cloned once. But I had enough of dying to the likes of minor gnorts, meatlump buffons, and such. And whats up with the level on the con? And it looks like you halved XP but did nothing to balance out the trees. Well looks like if I want to do jedi I at need to get at least padawan before the CU. Im tired of the time sink grinding has become as is. You just made it worse.

Errr....I dunno....SWG or StarQuest? It's looking more like everquest to me.

Random 1st impressions:


The con system is buggy, gorgs hit harder than mound mites. The fact that creatures regen during combat is a nice twist, bad when you are doing 30 points (when you hit) against a gorg who hit you for 400 and in 3 hits your are incap'd. The new icons are too "busy" and cartoonish. Please bring back the combat que. If you do not do the most damage against a creature you get zero xp (I assume to force grouping). Pistols have a 35m max range


I will wait to see how mid-level and high level combat goes for a final judgement but the old combat system was better ( just needed some tweaks not replacement).

I hope that this testing process is going to be a long one. Make sure that it's working before you go and destroy everyone's weapon, and replace it with one that looks the same, but isn't. Things like that make me think of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", not "Star Wars".


I enjoy the idea of realism. Are you going to try and work on more of that?


As far as I'm concerned, with weapon powerups, you should let us add as many different ones as we wish and change the look of the weapons for each of them. That would be realistic. Of course, you can only put on one of each thing, like one barrel, one grip, scope, etc.


/emote appreciates that the SWG DEVs listen to their players and try and make everyone as happy as possible, but I think with things like this, that everyone knows is happening anyway, why not get community feedback throughout the whole thing?


I understand that you guys like to save up a bunch of stuff and then delight us all by releasing it all at once, but with something this central, I think you should let us in sooner. I also understand that idea that your group of experienced computer designers and programmers think you know how things should be better than the thousands of people playing this game. I'm a bit meglomeniacle myself. However, I think you should be more open to listening to the community at the beginning of a project like completely changing how combat is done in the game.


Just my two crappy cents. Enjoy them.


P.S. I didn't mean to sound angry. I'm just scared. I'm a bit of an obsessive compulsive and changes like this make me freak a bit.
