I think everyone else has sumed it up, good luck finding a weaponsmith who will even make them, I have seen the skimatics and I can see why. Extreamly complex for something that isn't that valuble to combat and gets used up rapidly with little success. On the bright side they are good for combat XP if you dont accidently kill yourself.

The one good thing about our grenades, I've learned this from personal experience:
Train a guy up to master, give him a few proton grenades, and tell him to throw them at the best ideal range at a cluster of NPCs. Then sit back and take a screenshot of him lying on the ground in a pile of dead NPC's with the combat log up.
They'll never forgive you, but that first time "wth?" is worth it...

My advise would be the same as most here...Grenades are "ok" for gaining combat exp. yet they are inaccurate, risky, expensive and overall not the best to use in thier current state...ESPECIALLY for a novice commando. They are mostlyuseless in most PvE situations and completely useless in PvP. I'll agree that they are fun though..."Cryoban....pretty...."
My advise to the Novice commando in question would be to try some out, come to the Commando forum, and post his findings for us to read.
My advise to Inukeli would be to GIVE a couple stacks to the Novice commando in question and if he likes them like you think he will...he'll buy more don't ya think?

My advice?
Stay as far away from grenades as possible and do not ever go near one, let alone hit the "details" button in the vendor if you ever happen to see a few here and there. They are absolute waste of time and money.
They only have one minor purpose for people who need fast combat experience... but really... why would you want to? Expensive, inaccurate, damage not worth the money and effort put in, and the most annoying of all, HAM costs and blast radius that can incap you. UGH!

The only time I could see EVER using grenades would be to initiate combat on a crowded group of heat or acid resistant mobs.
Their damage sucks, and their encumberance costs are too high, so the only way I can justify using them is if you can attack more than one mob, and flame or acid cone is not an option.
Plus, it has to be an initial attack, because the AOE damages you if the mob is in your face (which will be the case after you initiate attack).
Sadly enough, if a person is wanting to use "grenades" for a ranged attack, I would suggest taking up smuggler and using bomb droids.

My advice, after playing with them a bit:
Don't bother. The sad fact is, the FT is THE commando weapon. The disposable weapons have roles against specific vulnerablities, and do have better range than an FT, and AP abilities, so they have a role. The HAR is good for acid-vulnerable targets (one shotting Tusken raiders and snipers with singleAcid2 is nice) but otherwise is marginal, at best. The launcher pistol is best used at blast vulnerable, high heat resistant targets and it's nice to be able to use SOME of those hard earned marksman special skills in the elite profession.
But the grenades, for all the reasons outlined above in the thread, are basically a waste of time, money, action, inventory space, and whatever else you care to toss in the mix compared to the rest of the Commando's arsenal.

I am retired/disabled from the Army. I hate to say it, but realistically, the thrown grenade does reflect real life. I throw like a girl, cuz I am a girl, and that suxs.
But we also have grenade launchers and LAWs in the military. Do we have any grenade launchers in game? Btw, I was expert on both
