I totally agree with this, as Commandos we should be given a bonus when firing turrets and heavy weapons. That goes for ground and space. I definently think that when a pilot is getting a crew together to man his YT-1300 or other multi-person craft in a combat situation,the firstperson he should look to is a Master Commando.

i have always felt that the role of commando, when applied to space operations, is a simple one. as a weapons specialist, the commando should receive perks that revolve around operating weapons turrets or mission spec artillery. (ion cannon, tractor beam, etc)
we arent necessarily all pilots, so any profession specific perks should focus solely around opperating space weaponry etc. make the role of commando an indespensable one to have on ship. see where im going with this?

I agree with other people that we would best be suited to boarding operations, if they intend to include profession specific perks in JTL. What I would like to see is the introduction of an 8 person assault boarding craft, somthing that is heavily armored and shielded but slow and not terribly manueverable with an ion cannon to disable an enemy transport or freighter. I think having a ship like this could be cool because they could have missions that are capture the enemy freighter and you would actually get to board the freighter after disabling it and go into an intsanced mission to take out the crew and defenses. I think this is well beyond the current scope of JTL, but down the road this would be fun to have, and it wouldn't be commando specific, but give commando-esque missions.

personaly we are playing star wars so there is no we are ground specialists crap. Its not like there is only the ground. Commando shoudl be trained in Killing and destsruction in the air on the ground in space and under water. And where ever this game goes.
I think we should have some kind of build up. Even if we cant have extra things on our ships we should get the know how to some how super charge our weps and fire single blasts of consintrated what ever at the penalty of waiting longer to fire again.

Oh, something that just occured to me: Read the X-Wing:Wraith Squadron series. About a squadron of X-Wing pilots which were assembled primarily as a ground based Commando team, and chosen with piloting skills second. They were all awesome pilots, but an even better Commando team. Good books.

Garvin, I'm having a tough time to figure a niche role for us in the spaced based game. Commando, like practically all the combat professions, are infantry based.
What I do see Commandos doing/be a member ofare:
- Boarding Operations (ships, platforms, transports). Think of Space Marines. The flyboys in their bombers have used their ions to disable a hostile frigate/transport/platform. Your ship's captain wants thetargetin one piece and to "facilitate" the surrender of any remaining crewmembers for the gathering of intelligence. Your Commandos/Marines are tasked with making boarding the ship, neutralizing any resistance, and force the enemy to surrender.
- Preemptive, surgical strikes: targetting planetary weapons platforms gaurded by an overwhelming defensive force. Your team of Commandos are preparing the way for your naval forces' arrival by bringing down some of the tough defenses. Your mission is difficult, your opponents are waiting, and your chances of survival are minimal. Welcome aboard Commando/Marine.
If they could implement more missions for us, that would be great. I'm getting tired of blowing up a flag or rock in the middle of nowhere.

aye they are copmmando and how id like to see us in the JTL , but fixing us would be nice first , but i see us more as a boarding party are ground based profession not fighter piolts , it just a shame most of them commando die in Aliens , but then again i die alot in PVP to so hey it about right

Here is my idea. Hope you like it. I pray TH catches this idea and proposes it to the devs.
Commandos should have the ability to board enemy capitol ships, and then continue to fight on foot and disable the capitol ship from within. Once a ship is disabled, it's parts can be salvaged and reversed engineers, then made into better equipment. Capitol ships should be able to be defended by other players that have docked with the capitol ship.
A multi-passenger vessel would allow many commandos to board a capitol ship at once, giving more effectiveness to raids. This would also alow for some interesting fights in space with the ground based system. Seems to me that this is one of many possible ways to make Galaxies and JTL mesh into one big game.
Well, thats one of my ideas on one of the many roles that are open for the commando proffesion.

OK to start with in my thinking that the CB should of come b4 JTL i have not really read or talked about it... but just to check now with you guys.. will JTL be a free add on or a payed one? and will it have a extra monthly fee or not? i mean don't get me wrong but you guys are almost talking as if all commandos will be able to do what we are talking about here.
I would love to talk part in being a space commando, but if i have to pay more to be it i will not be able too.. i hope the non JTL players will not be forgotten 
OK now for ideas.. well you know what i think about the timing of JTL, but i do like this idea of have the use of jump ships... what would be even more fun is that, the ship will only have a chnace of landing in the right place (as in it could be like up to 500m of the planned landing zone.. unless someone on the ground deploys a marker which means the craft will land within 50m of planned landing zone... well why do i say this.. well in PVP it could be more fun as it might take say 120secs to deploy a marker and the person doing the deploying could be killed and so the commandos drop far from the battle and are deleyed... this will also maybe encurage more ideas in base raids and so on... it would be nice if we picked up a skill like +1 passanger with out commando skills, as in the amount of players that could be in our group and be able to drop to the planet with a dropship.. where at Master commando this number could maybe max at 11 making the max group with yourself 12 players that can provide reinfocements or a strike squad that could turn the tide in a base raid.
Bascilly this is the best idea i have seen so far.. in that it means we can use it on planets and have something to help us have a purpuse in PVP again, b4 Combat balance.

Power Armor does exist in the star wars universe (several independent manufacturers produce suits and there's also the Zero-GStormtrooperArmor)and if they decide to include it in the game then I'mgoing to reconsider commando. As for commandos and boarding operations, my only concern would be the use of any of the disposable heavy weapons like the rocket launcher. That would be really, really messy. Fun but messy. The flamethrower is ideal, I'd think, as would be the acid rifle. At least they're not as likely to punch a hole through the ship's hull and out into space.

I doubt they'd let us board enemy ships.
but you never know.
That would be my first choice as well for our features.
however.
I think really we should just be able to use some of the super powered, but slower refire weapons.
and we should get some type of torpedo that does better than normal damage against stronger targets ( such as Star Destroyers )
