Gobhigh, while I respect your inteligence in the fight, the conclusions you drew from it are mistaken. You did not win because you were a master and he was dabbler. You won because you had a better grasp on your skills.

If he had any sense at all, he would have used suppressive fire, both to get himself into flame range when he needed it and to allow the GSP to hit harder as you get a neg. melee modifier when you are not standing.

Good fight though.

The same of course applies to the original poster. I can make up a battle where any character passed the markmen/brawler stage, can beat a master in anything else. (well, maybe not a BH, I still take a whooping from them time to time :smileysad but, you understand my point. Try not to get caught up in the master vs. dabbler argument. It does not accomplish anything.

Try instead to focus on the real issues. TEF is stupid and Master does not encompass enough bonuses to make it worth while.

Master one shots (or two shots) the dabbler with a heavy particle beam cannon. He then uses a flamesingle2 on the grand wrix and runs(and heals himself)until the fire dot kills it.

Then why the hell are all of you complaining about dabblers?

they have the right to spend the credits they see fit.. If they end up better then you so be it..

so what your a Master of 1 skill.. yeah im a Master commando... I should be the best..

Master commando duels Dabbler...

Master flamesingle2misses

dabbler sends in Grand wrix... and flamesingle 1 hits for 700

master trys to run grand wrix eating him up

dabbler normal flame attack to finish off Master..

or

Master commando duels Dabbler...

Master flamesingle2incaps dabbler

dabbler already sent in grand Wrix

Master shoots grand wrix with flamesingle2.. oh wait grandwrix is 100% resist..

so grand wrix eats master..

master switches to LP and finishes of grand wrix..

Dabbler gets up and incaps Master with flame single..

again master doesn't mean your the best.. Just a title...

i prefer to dabble!!

Yes, if you fight like that you'll die everytime. Flamethrower is a crutch for most commandos, esp those that dabble. Expand your horizons and examine other skill lines to be more effective, weather a master or not. Flamethrower is easy, but definatly not always the best.

dabler x with 0040 would have done just as well in that fight vs the dabler and the gsp as you did. Les say you both knew good tactics what then? You missed with the pbc (at master comando) you hit 1 target outof 2 using aflamecone 2 (at master comando). A 0040 dabler could have done just as well. A 0140 dabler can shoot the pcb with close to the same acuracy as a master (they both miss alot...)

The point of this whole thread is that a 0040 commando is 99.9% as effective as a master commando USING A FLAMETHROWER! It's not about i'm master so i should always beat a ddabbler no matter what. Its not I'm a dabbler and my versatility is going to win because i have min/maxed my character. Why should a master commando be better with a flamethrower than an 0040? Because he used up 3 whole other tree just to make it to that one box. He is the master of all heavy weapons. How much better whould he be? Thats open to speculation....

Maybe a master commando should get +10 to accuracy and speed aplied to every range weapon. It's not too powerfull considering he'll still miss a ton with commando weapons and riflemen/carbineer/bountyhunter exct.. will still be way better wih their respective weapon. Matser boxes should have a worthwhile perk for a person to get, but it should not be some uber kill em all attack like some people acuse others of wanting.

For all you dabllers masters just want to say i spent 33 more skill points on my proffession than you did i want to be able to brag that i am better than you with my weapons of choice. Better could be +5 accuracy, but at least you get something at master....

For all you masters who want all the power moved into the master box, get a grip. Not everyone wants to be a master commando.

For all you masters who want to be a master commando cause it sounds cool, hope you enjoy the fact that you have one of the best titles in the game.

And for everyone else, have a beer. It will make you feel better.

hehe, dabblers tick me off.. so i have my nice crate of proton grenades set aside for them, and my disposables too... and i dabble myself, smuggler... nothing ticks a flamethrower dabbler off more than me standing there with the title master commando, them standing there asa grenadeer, and .. oh health shot 1, health shot 2, /feigndeath.... then when they go to find the doc to stop the bleeding... /stand, fire said disposable... one more dead grenadeer lyin about

Sorry for getting a little nasty yesterday. I get tired of the constant dabbler bashing.

I won't dispute that the flamethrower currently gives you the most bang for your buck. So, naturally, somepeople will gravitate toward it and ignore the rest of the Commando tree. There are examples of this kind of dabbling all over the game. This will all shake out as the game matures and SOE works on balancing.

But if SOE wanted everyone to become a Master, then there would be restrictions on dabbling. They would have designed this game more like EQ and forced everyone to chose a profession and stick to that template. Dabbling gives players options, which increasesplayer enjoyment and retention. Even if you're a Master Commando now, isn't it nice to have the option of experimenting in otherprofessions in 6 months after you get bored?

By the way, can a 0,0,4,0 dabbler whip out a particle beam cannon and one shot anyone? Can a 0,0,4,0 dabbleruse aproton grenade against a group of Imps? Can a 0,0,4,0 dabbler use an acid rifle against a heat/blast immune target? Nope. Only a Master Commando (well, technically4,4,4,4) can do all those things. Mastering is all about becoming the best with all Commando weapons. Some of you act like you haven't gained anything by mastering the other Commando lines... that somehow mastering 3 completely different lines should make you superior with the flamethrower. This is completely contrary to how the game was designed.

A 0,0,4,0 dabbler has spent nearly as much time training specifically in flamethrowers as a Master Commando. The dabbler still can't use all those other Commando weapons... or flame cone 2, which is a great special in the right situation.

So, are you, as a Master Commando, more powerful than a dabbler? In many cases, I'm sure you are. In other cases, probably not. If you're not happy with your Master title, then maybe you should lobby SOE to make the other 3 Commando trees give as much bang for the buck as the flamethrower. I'd bet that none of you would bitch about your weak Master title if SOE were to give each Commando weapon a unique niche in the game.

See, you can't blame the dabbler for the current situation. You have to blame SOE and lobby for enhancements to make mastering the entire Commando tree something to be proud of. By the way, BHs are in the same situation. Invesigation is borked and carbine is only average. The way SOE has screwed up those lines (especially Investigation), only a die hard would master the entire tree. That's why so many dabblers only take BH pistol and LLC.

So, stop focusing on the Master title. Focus on making every box in the Commando tree worth achieving. Then the Master box will fall into line.

I should admit that I am one of those "dabblers" but not really. As a TKA I decided I needed some ranged weapon to supplement my dps. Since I am already in close quarters, and then unarmed tree is completed (TKA), why not a commando weapon?

As a good weapon in close range, I can use some TKA specials to knockdown, or blind, or stun, then whip out my FT. Hit em with a special, then return to my VKs and hopefully finish em off. The pet comes along for the ride for extra damage, or to hinder those at longer distances.

I must admit, I still have issues against those long range specialists (riflemen, BH's). But I do fairly well against CHs, and other melee based toons.

I see my flamethrower and pet as a bonus, and TK as my main profession. Unless of course they give us more skill points. I would like to play with a rocket launcher.

i think some of you guys are taking this game to seriously

so what if someone wants to only use the flamethrower and nothing else? the HAR is worthless, the HPBC and RL are to expensive for their continued use and the grenades are hard to find (i havent found any for sale at any of my regular weaponsmiths on lowca)

i like my flamethrower and i like the launcher pistol, they are the only 2 weapons i use. i wanted to do commando since the first time i heard of the class. but since i only like the flamethrower line and dont want to master the class this somehow makes me a lesser player then anyone else?

whats the point of being a master commando if you cant heal your self or you get ran over by big creatures because you didnt have an effective creature tank to take some of the damage for you?

maybe the problem is all in PvP, which i really dont do all that much. is that where all the anger stims from? i would think a guy with modest BH skills along with flame 4 would make a good PvPer but wouldnt that make the master BHs mad too?

Well really, it should be like this (at least for me at the moment)

Master commando (me) vs. Dabbler.

Get off Flamesingle2 and incapp Dabbler. Dabbler 'sics Grand wrix on me to eat me up. My Graul Mauler intercepts Grand Wrix and laughs greatly as it has 75% reduction to Kinetic and armor 1. I switch to HAR and finish off Grand Wrix. Dabbler gets back up, but Mauler has attacked dabbler now, and he fights for his life. Flame dot incaps him again and either I or Mauler finish with Deathblow. Dabbler goes to respawn, and I use pet stim C's to heal Mauler and wait for Dabbler to cuss and cry because he should be better than a Master Commando since he's a dabbler.
