Thread: UPDATE- October 16

my apologies to commando's and Bouty Hunters for my rants. I just real ticked when SOE stealth nerfs, which is never necessary, and the guy in charge of combat doesn't appear to have the intestinal fortitude to get on here and address these issues in person after he went totaly opposite of what he said before hand. It was a stab in the back..

Any way before I start ranting again, my apologies. I have been commando since release or at least shortly thereafter and I did experience the broken profession as we all did. This just really has gotten under my skin.

On the whole, good.

But, the melee range penalty is simply not logical.

Even if all the other professions "agree that we're too overpowered," what they're missing is that we're an Elite/Hybrid professionsolely designed to deal damage and blow up things. We really don't have enough points to do anything else after we're Master commandos when everyone but Bounty Hunter (which is a hunter/killer class) CAN.

We don't track things, hunts things, or make things. We kill things. Nothing else should do it like we do. We're commando's. "Commando" is a word that instills fear on a real battlefield, and it should do the same in SWG. We are NO ONE'S peer in battle, and a mere rifleman, carbineer, or someone else that has plenty of points left over to be a master chef as well should NOT be able to destroy us in PvP.

If they want to leave the melee penalty on, that's fine, but if they do ANYTHING, it should be removed at Master Commando to reward those of us who don't plan on using commandosolely for thepretty blowtorch.

As it stands now, other professions can heal, poison, bake, and craft as well as knock us down, dizzy us, and make us bleed. All we can do is burn and blast, but as it stands now, we TAKE substantial damage if we want to DO substantial damage.

While we can't be totally unbalanced in PvP, shouldnt we have a better trade off for being one of the hardest to master, least frequent to hit, slowest to fire, and most lacking in a status change effect? Right now our penalty for doing decent damage is a quick death if our special misses or doesn't instantly kill our opponent (which it doesn't anymore)

I just had a thought. They -could- take the modifier down by 0.5 for every stage of Field Tactics, and to nothing for Master. If they're not removing the malee mod, as they've said, they can at least reduce it.

My commando can collect dust until that mod is removed.I'm not playing a weak elite class that takes most of my points, its **edit**ing bull**edit** and **edit** them for making it that way.I've kept civil and just stated why it should be removed but not anymore now I just wont play it and they can blow me.It was a waste of my time, and in this game thats a waste of my money.

Thanks again for the update MasterSynn

Following up - I don't think the melee penalty would be that bad if the weapons were classed right - the Flame Thrower should be considered a medium or short range weapon. NOT MELEE, but NOT LONG RANGE. That means the penalty on it should be something closer to what is on Pistol users.

The Launcher pistol should get the lower penalty also, and only the longer ranged Commando weapons (HAR for example, Rocket Launcher, etc.) should get hit for the high end penalty.

Next, if that penalty is staying, than the specials timer must be ignored for HEALING. Not for switching weapons or attacks (you shouldn't be able to fire a special, then switch to another weapon to get the timer and/or penalty reduced, that wouldn't be fair either). Only for healing. You should be able to HEAL as quickly as possible if hit, slowed only by a separate timer on the ability to heal. It seems that the there is but one timer for all delays, and that's where the big problem comes in.

If I fire a special, and then can't heal while getting pummelled, how is that fair?! The Melee player is able to heal as I attack him, and able to heal much quicker even as they use specials.

The flame thrower comes with the longest delay on any of the weapons and attacks. That was done to keep things fair for other classes. Now that penalty stays *on top of the melee* mod. That is double jeopardy, and is truly broken.

Again, I agree with the comments about getting the melee penalty reduced by acquiring additional skills in the commando tree. It doesn't have to go away, but could be significantly reduced by acquiring Field Tactics tree skills. That keeps dabblers from running around with flame throwers giving Commandos a bad name, while rewarding those that acquire all of the skills in the class. The penalty doesn't have to go away, but should be lowered back to a level that is appropriate. A 25% increase in melee damage that is used against a master commando would be about right. Against someone just carrying a flame thrower and using flame 4 only, the penalty should be fairly high, since in theory, they've not trained within the whole profession.

Also, again, the combat designer needs to recognize that this class is already penalized with a sink hole of points into the unarmed combat tree. Make that tree more valuable *FOR EVERYONE* Give back some reduction in melee damage (it doesn't have to be huge, but needs to be better than it is now) for each level acquired there. Heck, raise the melee damage mod to 3.5 at worst (boy, that would really make melee characters happy!!) and reduce it down to 2.5 thanks to acquiring Unarmed 1 through 4. That rewards EVERYONE that uses points for that tree, and introduces balance for Commandos in having other classes have to consider the same skill point sink that Commandos do. (They could ignore it, and be forced to adapt too).

As is, Commandos will disappear over nite. They already have, and will continue to do so. I have a game cad that I've opened yet, and an account that should expire in just under a month. I'm deadly serious in saying chances of me extending my sub are going down daily as crap like this remains and ignorant game designers and devs continue to bend us over and tell us to shut up because others are egging them on. Fix the other professions by fixing them, not by breaking others.

Make droids more powerful.

Make melee players more powerful (but again, THEY SHOULD NOT BE AS POWERFUL AS SOMEONE HOLDING A HEAVY DAMAGE RANGED WEAPON THAT IS ATTACKING FROM PROPER RANGE).

Make creature handlers less powerful (nerf those tanks darn it).

Armorsmiths and weaponsmiths are already gonna be nerfed thanks to the nerfs getting applied to Commando. With missions now literally killing people that try to take them, the credits won't be there, and that means less money to pay for weaponry and armor. Congrats for screwing the economy there.

Gee, the more I type this, the more I think Crimson Skies on XBOX Live is the way to go. At least there I know in advance that MS is hosing me, but I get to flame others out of the sky without worries that my game is gonna get changed radically out from under me.

"Basically, he said that the other combat classes already feel that we’re overpowered."

My lord. Then what do they pay him for? So, because they see 1000 float over their heads and decide they'd rather see 1000 floating over our heads, they complain, and we get nerfed because the other professions think we were overpowered? Christ. I really hoped that that wasn't how decisions were made in the Dev process... Normally, I can be coherent, but with that quote I'm next to speechless.

I'm blown away.

Greetings,

I have read this entire thread, (and many others) and have been following this and otherchanges closely, and I for one think it is a total crock of $hit. The damage modifier is ridiculous, if they are requiring us to have it then remove (as so many have requested) the requirement for unarmed.

Master Synn I applaud your efforts, but you are outmatched by a whole group of dev boobs who could probably care less what your (or our concerns are) even if they say that they do.. that is nothing more than lip service in my opinion, to get you to go away.

My only question is..are the Devs really this stupid??

I have been a "going" commando when I first started this goofy game, I am a casual player and was completely new to this arena of MMO's and not one of these "I have no other life" types that simply grind the profession in 2 weeks and they have it mastered,I LEARNED this proession and can play it well

Iwas "going" commando when all my friends who play as well (with the exception of one) said "its so broke dont bother", but, I continued, thinking that this is gonna really be something when I finally getthere... I couldnt wait!... so I ground and ground... with the time that I had available... and Ifinally made it, and for about 2 weeks it was great.. until every boob flavor of the month punk player decided to switch to "my" profession, I say "my" because as I stated it was all I wanted to do when I started this game, but because it was considered "poweful" at the time by these fools they switched over.... I have since seen some of those same idiots still playing... now though... they are bounty hunters. ( theres a shocker)

I was knocked out of this game for 10 irritating days with absolutely no help from the CSR's whom I must have called on the phone and exchanged e-mail with for a week straight to no avail, and what do you know I finally fixed the problem myself with the help of another player and by learning to be a code reader and understanding what it menas... when you get a minidump file, and actually end up realizing how to fix a technical problem... ( a prerequisite it seems to play this game because the CSR's sure didnt help me)

Ifsome of you reading this post think I am just griping thats fine I dont care what you think.. Ifsome of you reading this think I am being too hard on Sony.. I dont care what you think... If some of you reading this think that this (type) of discussion and or comments (solves nothing) I especially dont care what you think either.

I am out of patience, and out of time, I will be ( unless they correct this problem soon AND I MEAN VERY SOON) quitting this game and finding something else to do, this is ridiculous... and a cheap underhanded move to undermine my profession.

Finally, to the people who have spent the long begining days wih this lame beta version game, and its countless patches and fixes, and being shorted on combat and weapons xp.. and losing items permanantly to not have them be replaced I say "I know how you feel" , and for all of that I kept my mouth shut and never said anything.. Until Now...

btw.. if you dont like this post I STILL dont care.. these boards are for opinions.. and this is mine..

So deal with it.

Good write-up thanks. I never advocated removing the penalty, only lowering it, so I feel it will be addressed, at least. It would be nice to get the LP somewhere where it can actually be a viable HW instead of a pistol. It really stinks to have such a huge difference in con between my flamer and my LP which would only gain if I bought into more Pistoleer skills, which I see to be a huge waste of skill points, considering that the LP is our "special" pistol.

^^^ /agree

We also need AP adjustments to just about every weapon we own. We should have at least one non disposable weapon with a AR3 rating.

Do I think this is the end all to the profession? No.

I can still hold my own in PvP, but honestly we really need Speed and accuracy modifiers for our weapons that put us on par with other professions at the Master level.

As it stands right now, a Master Rifleman is much more attractive. An AOE attack (Strafe shot 2) at the Master level that can be done at 64m rivals anything we can put out.

Sure we gained the Support branch specials from marksman to use with the FT and HAR. Which eats Health like its going out of style(which I can live with). But with the current dispostion of the HAR as being totally unusable and the speed and accuracy mods we have. It is not an acceptable trade off.

Does anyone esle think it wrong to be using a tier 1,2,or 3 MARKSMAN special asthe go to special for our weapons? Well weapon (not counting the HAR)

I am saying all this from a broad perspective. I use Protons, HPBC, LBC, RL, FT in PvP, but we just dont have enough spd or acc bonuses for these.

If they are going to leave the 2.5 these issues need addressed. Even if they dont, we are still half broken.

Thanks MS for the update and good work.

Has both hopeful and discouraging parts to it...

Sadly, the perception that we are PvP Elites seems like it will rule the day. Until some dev actually tries playing a Commando, I don't think they'll ever understand all the flaws it has or how little it offers on a "per skill point" basis.

On the plus side, at least the downsides look as if they'll be mitigated somewhat in the far distant future.

sadness. We are stuck with that stupid melee modifier it seems. My only faint hope is that they'd change it to PvP only....no one would complain about that in PvP. It's only disfiguring in PvE really. Any chance on that?

In general, great job. I know you've been a pitbull with the devs and I personally appreciate it. From what I can see there's not much point in keeping my template pure commando. Might as well dabble....no fixes are incoming.
