Anyways...if the Sandbox was up, why would Garvin or any of the Testers say its not? If it was up, we wouldn't even post saying its not - we'd be too busy testing

Because, if they say its up, they violate the NDA. If they say its not up, they dont necessarily violate the NDA. If they say no comment, then you know they are in it.

Most likely, if it IS up, then they have been given instructions to say it isnt up until a red letter says its okay to.

I got rode pretty hard for suggesting this timeframe back in novemeber and December, but it sure is looking like that is the timeframe we are truly looking at. I would be outright shocked if Alpha started this month.

I have been pretty firm on my belief that we wont see the CU on live until May/June for a while now. Earliest possible time would be sometime in April. But as time goes by, and no announcement regarding Alpha testing gets made, reaffirms my opinion that it wont hit live until mid-May at the earliest. Here it is mid-January, and nothing. Now, I will conceed that being in Alpha, and being under an NDA, the sandbox team may not even be able to say that Alpha has started - until a dev says it has. So, it is possible that Alpha has already started.

But they just cant say it.

Another viewpoint is that Alpha has been in business for a while, considering how long its been since the sandbox teams where formed.

However, IMHO, all this posteuring and whatnot, finalizing stuff before it starts is stupid, and a waste of time. Get the code IN. Get the numbers IN. Get players testing NOW. Tweak as you go. Because the numbers and code will be tweaked later anyway. It seems a waste of time and resources to finalize stuff on paper, before even putting it to test in a live (sandbox-wise) environment.

The baseline should be what they have in placeNOW (CU changes wise), then tweaked as they go, to see how it works in a "live" scenario.

Alot of wasted resources going on right now....Then again, we arent talking about some the sharpest bowling balls ever produces from the factory. They seem intent on putting the cart before the horse. Hell, take a look at the live servers and see just how screwed up the planets are there.

What "conveniently" needs to happen is this: An accidental server wipe of all items, toons, characters, money, houses, etc. All you have is your toon, with its original race, profession selection, and name. But magically, they were able to recover who had jedi and who didnt. Get rid of all the insane dot'd weapons. Restrict city building. POIs that you cant build within 3000 square meters of.

Make this happen when the CU is loaded onto live....Have an "oopsie!!!" moment. I stand to loose ALOT (check the richest commando thread) of stuff, but its not like I cant build back up again....

TH recently reponded to us in the CU forum that the Programmers are working much overtime...Popular consensus still seems to be that we could start testing any day now.

Most of us just feel like we are in a holding pattern currently...I've already worked with our Testers and they each have their gameplans for testing now. I've also recieved confirmation from the Devs on a few questions/concerns we have that we'd like to see resolved prior to testing starting (the confirmed that they'd research it and get back to me...haven't told me yet the outcome)...

Thank you very much for the news Garvin. I like to search your posts because you are one of the few that try to cool down the steam from all of us in the dark.

The dev are lucky to have you, because you'r nearly in the marketing business for SOE with this CU on the spot.

Thanks again and keep up the good work, you and your testers.

Now with the CURB's content...thats a different matter, unless if the devs do a FF this week releasing some info about it, theres zilch chance anyone outside testing will learn anything new about it. But fret not - after we begin testing (think about it, if TH IS going to release a FF about the CURB...then that means testing will either begin a few days or a day before or on Friday itself! Now that would be awesome, and I hope that happens) Alpha will be for around 2 weeks, so either beginning or 1-2 weeks into February it goes into Beta...that for another month or month n a half if nothing really bad was found on the Sandbox...then live.

Just because Th said they are working on something doesn't mean A....... that he will ever deliver on it..... B .... that if he does it will be something new. They have a Dev chat on stratics this week. I guarantee they will say nothing new about anything accept what we have already heard. Thats it. Until there is code on some testing server they aren't going to say squat they have already made that clear. The rest is simply posturing and trying to string people out until they get it done. If they came out way back in October when they made it sound like the CU was in the very near future and told the truth.... "we are working on a Cu that will change the game for the better but it will not be completed until somewhere around May 2005" If they had said that which I believe they new all along subscriptions would have been cancelled right and left. Instead we continue to get strung out. Its a joke. Outside of the "choosen ones" who for some reason their subscription's entitle them to more then the rest of that pay the same stinking subscription every month the rest of us know nothing and will know nothing for sometime to come.instead we get to listen to how we should be patient and how we are unreasonable ranters, i mean combat is only been broke for nearly 2 years why are we so upset anyway... easy said when you know what's going to be in it isn't it and atleast they are talking to you guys, a lot different scenario from this side of the fence.

I tell you what SOE's handling of fixing combat has done for me. I now resent and hate JTL and each day my resentment and utter discuss for Jedi grows and the growth is compounded. My advice to those who are not in the dream world called Alpha, don't be expecting this thing before May or you are going to be in my shape hating all the things realeased and placed in teh game instead of combat fixes. Don't listen to the garabage SOE puts out there... the sandbox is not going to start "any day now" its still weeks away at best. Alpha will not take just 2 weeks it will take much much longer. This thing is being carefully timed to rejeunvenate (in their thoughts) their subscription base with the release of Episode 3. They are banking that excitement from the movie will make everyone run and flock to Starwars games including this one. They are willing to risk their current subscription base for this effort and yet to be seen if they will pull it off.

Its sad that its almost 2 years after the release of this game and the main coresystem of combat is yet to see any balance or true repair. I keep hearing how.... well it was the rebalanace .... been then it was the revamp and now it the CU... and each one was different and a broader scope of changes.... the straight fact is its been broke for 2 years and remains broke no matter how many versions of a solution have been out there its still broke and SOE has no solution other than some ideas on paper.

Its gotten so bad that now we have full publishes, which started off as being content related to fix bugs like sliding off a chair.

Like the rebalance and the revamp before it, the CU was a nice dream but with all dreams you eventually wake up.

Just a quick FYI...I will never lie to my Community...NDA or no NDA...I'll quit being a Correspondent before I'd agree to lie to you all...As your correspondent I will always (1) speak my honest opinion on any topic, even if it's against the Devs, SWG or SOE's opinion & (2) I won't lie to you...This position/game isn't worth going against my own personal convictions.

So when I say that testing has not started, I mean testing has not started...And when I say that overall, Commandos will be happy with the CU changes, I mean that as well.

I can't always tell you everything, but I WILL NOT ever lie to any of you or become a "corporate kiss bottom"...The NDA prevents me from revealing certain information, but it doesn't dictact to me that I must lie or cover up.

Can't argue with that. Garvin is the best thing commandos have, but even Garvin is limited. I think commandos as with many others are still on a long road of disappointment. 3 or 4 more months before this CU, if its still called that by then, hits testcenter. He's got a long row to hoe trying to clean up for SOE until then. Wish him the best of luck in doing so though.

Heh yeah, maybe in a month the CURB will be changed to the CURBJNOR or something...hehe

Anyways, for living in a dream world and whatnot...if testing doesn't begin in the next week or so, then we will feel a bit dissapointed (or at least I would, as it certainly feels like its gonna happen soon!). But IF testing does begin before the end of January, I can bet you that things will progress at a fairly fast pace (look at the JTL Beta, for all those who didn't get in the first few days, JTL was really REALLY borked...and in less than a month they really got a ton of it fixed and working...granted, not everything [mainly mission stuff]...but imagine having a similiar process with an Alpha steaming before hand.

Optimisitic, very...but if the CURB ships 4-6 months after Alpha testing ends, and ships withwith bugs akin to those shipped in Publish 12 [My architect for one has been given hell with new factory bugs!]....I will be VERY dissapointed in the Devs...
