TH recently reponded to us in the CU forum that the Programmers are working much overtime...Popular consensus still seems to be that we could start testing any day now.

Most of us just feel like we are in a holding pattern currently...I've already worked with our Testers and they each have their gameplans for testing now. I've also recieved confirmation from the Devs on a few questions/concerns we have that we'd like to see resolved prior to testing starting (the confirmed that they'd research it and get back to me...haven't told me yet the outcome)...

From TH, before Christmas I think, when asked when how long the CU will take to hit live:

Longer than a minipublish, shorter than a year...

I am betting...Mid late May, 1st of June

Worpete, ask any tester/correspondant about the CURB...and in fact, unless someone cracks and becomes mental, they will speak Dev-like!

Anyways...2005 has started off to a very very VERY great start, my optimism for SWG began faltering mid to late december...and now its back even stronger. Sure all the new stuff arent quests that add depth to the game, but they sure as heck do polish it and make it a bit cooler.

Maybe its just me and my guild, after being hit bad by WoW and EQ2 we just started coming back. The enthusasium and excitement is making SWG feel a bit new all over again...and you know why? Teamwork, its very fullfilling hunting with almost my entire guild thats online on Yavin IV for Avian meat for 3 hours. Yeah its missions, yeah its mindless killing...but we ALL had a BLAST! It was a wonderful get together (plus we got our docs 200 CPU Avian meat, and 5k left over to distribute to those who came...about 150k per man as I myself gave up my share and the town share as another guildmate is giving his share to the town, plus I wanted everyone to get 30k more credits since it was a really good time! (plus if we sold all the meat, we wouldve all gotten nearly 400k each)

Maybe, just maybe its how people approach the game...2 weeks back barely any one in my guild came on...at most maybe 3. Today we had nearly 15 ppl on for most of the day, even 6-7 on at around 1-2 AM!. And now everyone's excited about going on more hunts and making money, and all are very enthusastic as we all did something based on teamwork...and all got to talk to each, and do something constructive that benefited both the guild but everyone! We went from a guild that would go dungeon raiding (ie content raiding) to having a big chunk of our activites geared toward Resources, and now we're having a much more fun playing time. It may get old after a while, but I dont think it will...because its all social, and working towards a goal. Then we'll be having PvP tournies in between, and whatever else we'll be doing to break it up a bit.

Or maybe...its not us, but SWG...

So yeah we're in a holding pattern, but already the sun is poking out behind those storm clouds...nearly everyone thats still active in my guild (went from 70% inactive, to about 50% inactive in a matter of a few days now...2-3 ppl that were playing WoW have come back...gained a ton of new faces[Mainly due to restructuring of the guild...easier, more efficient and far more flexible], and purged those who werent coming back) agree that so far the Devs have worked wonders and are off to a very GOOD start, and things look very promising. These two loot passes have helped more than some can even imagine...I really am hoping they'll have a few more (at least 1 more! we still need uber loot for uber mobs) and possibly new dungeons soon...such as the Imperial Star Destroyer and Hutt Casino.

In final remarks...SWG is great as it allows flexible playing styles...obviously currently all combat (or all PvP) for guilds does NOT work as there just isnt enough damn content/quests in the game. Thats a BIG portion of SWG (and prolly why WoW looks so good, as it is predominantly combat)...my guild and I switched gears to a slightly different degree...that not only involves more socializing (contract deals and actual hunting) but a much more fun experience in the game. Can you do that in WoW? I doubt it. I thought I wouldnt like SWG without the dungeons and quests, and without entertainer...but being with my guild, making deals, and interacting with people is indeed fun (sounds weird!). Quests and dungeons when they come will add a ton likewise...Im not saying the devs shouldn't concentrate on those, but quite the contrary. Just what im saying, is that even if you like one way of playing...theres most likely another way similiar you'll enjoy...and that its flexible switching from one to the other.

So yeah the CURB is a while off...and both PvP and general combat will be a bit more fun (hopefully) and more balanced, that fixes a big part of the game...and finally allows us to enjoy those dungeons like we used to. But there are still aspects of the game some ppl have not discovered yet (like me), that too are equally fun.

Yes its 4:46 AM...and I think im starting to go into off topic-ness here, and I don't even remember why Im writing this huge post (except that maybe, that SWG isn't totally riding on the CURB and there are more things than just waiting for it)...but ill end it with this: Today (well yesterday), I had the most fun in SWG than Ive had in the last few months...it was so much fun getting out there on the field with my guild and working as a team towards a goal...and looting some stuff (2 paintings within seconds, was really happy! They look very cool! Also one of my guildmates looted BH armour gloves too)...all I can really say, for some odd reason (youd think resource harvesting isnt that fun...)...it was just simply FUN!!!

Not to mention, we worked as a real group on the field should work...at first it began as a solo group-esque thing (as we were hunting relatively low mobs) but then it began to grow into a more "squad" thing where we had 3-4 guys going out together, a solo guy, then 2 others etc. Hopefully that'll be like how grouping will be post-CURB, where it will have meaning...a goal...and fun (not a neccessity)...not to mention, I wish they didnt decrease meat yields on mobs when grouped!

Ahh im getting OT on my own Topic that was semi-OT off the original thread...ill end this here...

That is all he can tell you, so get off him. We are on a holding pattern. We are antsy too, but all we can do is wait.

I got rode pretty hard for suggesting this timeframe back in novemeber and December, but it sure is looking like that is the timeframe we are truly looking at. I would be outright shocked if Alpha started this month.

That would suck...I have items that took a lot of time to get, that aren't even lootable anymore and stuff that I got as gifts from people who no longer play...if the Devs did that, hell even i might leave the game!

Anyways...if the Sandbox was up, why would Garvin or any of the Testers say its not? If it was up, we wouldn't even post saying its not - we'd be too busy testing

Hmm.

This is taking an awful lot of time. It's a disappointment that alpha hasn't even started yet. Which is leading me to believe that this will take much longer.

Yes taking care of some things before actually testing is good, but you can't do it with everything. Cause when it actually goes into the game it can be entirely different. Thinking ahead is good, but you can't predict everything.

Most of our problems aren't from a lack of Dev insite it's from a lack of actual testing things out, at least so it seems to me.

We're half way through Jan. and I really haven't seen about the CU other than Gordon saying yes everything will be better and it will be fixed.

Yes that's great, but how about giving some specifics?

Seriously it's hurting things more not to have any idea. All you have to say when you post that info is "Note: not all of that which has been mentioned may or ever occur
in-game."

And unless my internet is getting worse SWG's lag is getting to the point where it's terrible. I lag up at times for about 20 seconds when fighting a bunch of NPCs and seriously that is often enough to screw things up bad for me.

Even the lag in space is getting to the point where it's screwing my game up. I know this is off-topic but it seems to me this game constantly gets laggier buggier and so on. A few annoying bgs have been fixed, but now there is a bunch of new ones partly due to server resests.

Perhaps I need to upgrade my computer more, but for some reason things just seem to get worse lag wise.

I dunno I'm just set in this grumpy mood, cause I really don't know what to look forward to in this game other then the CU and that seems to just keep it's distance of always being about 3 months away.
