I wouldnt start swearing and cancelling just yet. Smuggler and Squad Leader are two professions that need content from the ground up to make them more viable in a starwarsy sense. In between and in each publish they still stated they will be fixing corresspondant issues ect...which could entail fixing broken specials, making sure each profession works at needed ect...

The entire game needs a whole lotta loving. Not just commando. And that is something Im pretty sure everybody can agree on regardless of profession.

One thing i noticed is that TH posted that pistoleer specials and such was fixed in publish 8. Im guessing that publish 8 will be a major patch for pistoleers, to the effect of how publish 7 was to carbineers.


There was no mention about Commando anywhere but then again they didnt go into very many details. So far we have gotten 2 very small "fixes" one of which hasnt hit live yet, those being the HAR accuracy/speed mod stacking and being allowed to use disposable weapons indoor. At this point without a major revamp of the entire Commando professions is that they addressed a few of issues that I feel wouldnt require a whole lot of work. If they got at least 1 or 2 of the issues resolved in each publish that would keep me playing as a commando or playing at all for that matter.


1) Adding Medium AP to the HAR


2) Fix heavy weapon SEA


3) Either add more speed bonus mod to the HAR or reduce the delay on it's specials since it does not have a DOT


4) Add more accuracy mobto both the HAR and FT line


5) Increase the quantity of disposables weapons produced per stack.

Once again we got hosed, literally (fireblanket). Remove the bonus melees get on us and I will live with what we have until they can fix major issues. I guess our 27 million top 5 issues with commando thread was ignored, again.

O come on now. They tell us to wait for the combat pub every time we ask for help. Now they tell us o wait aonther what 2-8 months. Does any one know dang it. This is totaly unexceptable for us. I feal like its time to kill my account and wait for news on a thread so that I can some day come back. Im sorry ive waited patiantly ive even revamped my char to help out the commando side in hope that it would take my mind off how bad things are. Now I feal like every thign ive done is pointless. I understand its a game I understand its for fun. But why should I pay money for some fun and peace of mind that is only agrovating me. SO you say OOO change your profession. Dang it I dont want to be something else. Ive been this for so long since ive started. Now i have to say to heck with what I am and who I want to be lets make a clone of every other profession so I can do something. I hope TH sees this and says something or maybe he will just sit and wait. As him does he get payed for his services or does he pay to play. If he does get payed and or does not pay for the game I can totaly understand why he says nothing. But dang it I pay. So let me play and fix it sheesh.


Thats like hey your breaks on your car is broke? Give me 100 bucks ill fix them in a year.

One postive thing I can think of about this recent news....


TH will no longer be able to respond to all of our requests by saying "Just wait until the combat rebalance finishes next patch...you issues will be addressed there..."


Errr...well he could, but we could call him on it...LOL

Well, I'd told my fellow guildmates that I was giving SOE until publish 8 to sort things out so that my commando was playable, (publish 8 being when TH had informed us "the meat of the combat rebalance will be pushed live") otherwise I was cancelling my account.


I, like many other master commandos, don't WANT to be another profession... this is a ROLE PLAYING GAME and I chose the ROLE of a commando during my first week of play, I'm not a power gamer and it took me several months for me to make master (5 to be exact) and right now I feel as if those five months - and the $75 I spent on subscriptions - have been totally wasted.


If I wanted to run around and just shoot things, I'd be playing Unreal Tournament or Quake, but dammit I chose a role to play, and since the introduction of this ludicrous 2.5x to hit mod my role has been reduced to that of punching bag for every melee profession and critter in the game, and no sane person considers paying $15 a month for that, or thinks of it as fun.


So it really becomes this simple, if the 2.5x to hit mod doesn't vanish in publish 8, then I walk and play some other game online (CoH being top pick atm)... it's blatantly obvious that the devs dont consider us to be customers, and are happy to take $15 a month from each of us with no intention of listening to our pleas for help and attention.

Wow. Gone six months and they still haven't fixed the problems.

Good luck Garvin. Unless they fired everyone at SOE it's like talking to a wall (which is insulting to bricks everywhere)

Right or wrong, this is my take on it:


The game was originally relased too soon, forced by the suits, and since then we have been "playing/testing" the code. They are unable to get enough people into TC so it really gets tested in live. We are still testing for them (don't get me wrong, we are playing and some of us are actually having fun) and will continue to do so for some time. They know that MANY players have left, but are saying that they will return once the Space Expansion goes live. The suits are counting on this to bring many people back and many new people in.


Just look at all the publishes that are now scheduled to happen. They are all precursors to the Space Expansion. The suits and Devs are now focused 99% on the SPace Expansion and do not want to spend their time on the combat balance. I truely do not beleive that that they do not see the urgency of working on the combat balance. I beleive that the combat balance is one of the top priorities in making this game better and more fun, but I think their priority is in getting more people to play. I think if you have a FUN game, then the people will come and stay.


Just look at changes that are made, or suggested!!! The crafting change that THEY wanted to implement. NO ONE wanted this, so why did they even waste their time tryig to implement this. Look at the change in shuttles (You will be able to fly from any planet to any planet, and shuttle times are being reduced). With all do respect we have been asking for this since beta, and finally now that it is being implemented, it is not because we asked for it, it is because it will be NECESSARY for the space expansion. Once you have your own ship, you will be able to fly to any planet. Imagine how horrible it would be to have to follow the trade routes with your own ship.


Anyway, I have been quite positive for a long time, but I keep seeing an ugly pattern.


I want to be a commando, a working commando. I want my profession to work. So I ask myself, why keep playing this game now, if they are not going to fix my profession for at least another 5 months or so, and that is still doubtful. WHy not cancel my account for now, and come back when things are fixed? I'm debating this. I like the game and being a commando, but it seems to me that emphasis on what needs to be done keeps changing, and we will soon be playing this game for a whole year. "Systems" are still being changed??? WHy? Why can't we move from changing to fixing.


Now am I the only one that thinks a game you pay for should be "fixed" before you buy it, not afterwards. Maybe I do not understand online games, but I thought they would be adding content in publuishes, not changing or fixing it. Am I wrong here?


On a positive note, I beleive the code that swg is using is some of the best and this game has the potential for being the BEST game, but for now, it is really laking.

My impression from actually talking to the dev's way back when was this.

They wanna make game B. But to get to game B you have to make game A.

They put out game A. People play it and point out what's broken and how to fix it.

They appoint people (non paid mind you) to represent each portion of game A to listen to. Key word. Listen.

So they nod. Fix what they have to, but continue working on game B.

They have no intention of fixing game A.

So it isn't until they release the space expansion and the new combat system that you'll see the game they really wanted to make.

Only problem is...they still haven't defined what each class should do.

Every class should have a Pro and a Con. A purpose if you will.

Commando should be the bringers of the boom, just not be the fastest at it.

Acid rifle that should eat you.

Fire that should eat you.

Not to mention an AOE that should be undodgeable (how do you dodge a stream of fire/acid left to right waist high?)

Rocket launchers that do monster damage. It's why they are charged and cost $$$$

Grenades that do monstrous AOE.

But all of this is irrelevant since SOE has still yet to get around to doing step one.

Who should do what and not do the other.

BALANCE.
