I would agree for unarmed 4 prerequisite if we had some unarmed specials in the dirty fighting line.


That would be real DF !

ha ha ha, this thread is awesome!

Dirty melee fighting... kick to the groin, the famous ear-bite, sand in the face, eye-gouging etc... sounds like preschool fights.

Tackoi, as an up and coming smuggler, you're gonna need to be tough and know how to scrap - simple as that. If you don't know how to rough someone up for not paying for a shipment, or go to any bar and have any kind of reputation, you better know how to fight. Pistols are when you finally get your groove in the smuggling realm.

Also the part about teras kasi student is slightly unfounded. I'm a college student... doesn't mean I go to all my classes or do all my homework. Just because your a TK student doesn't mean you meditate, pratice mental control, hang from trees upside down in the mountains as you cultivate your connection to the universe

You're just learning some "cool moves" to use on thugs...

Thats is a very good question. Every time I try to plan the chars of my two accounts I get mad at how badly planned smuggler is. The unarmed is a good idea in theory as it distincts the smuggler as someone who can manage himself in a bar fight. But to pair smuggler with a crafting prof is so crippling as you end up with not enough artisan or merchant. And it's not good to pair with 1337 combat template either, so it's rather crippling overall. But as I long as I dont think too much about it, I enjoy being MS a lot.

Keep Unarmed4. Its a tough grind and when people nowadays think Unarmed4, some will say never mind and thus you prevent future competition and TKAs.

it's very simple, really - Devs have no idea what to do with us. We are a space prof ... I won't be suprised if on SE current smuggler prof would be re-name into Spice Handler, and all of us will be forced into grinding the new smuggler proff, which will have piloting and dancing as pre-requisuite. Why dancing? for the same reason as why unarmed - gotta use something ...

Contrary to the belief of a small scant few - Smuggler is not a full-blown business profession. Also what would the Business Tree offer us for smuggling? Access Fees and 2 crappy vendors? Thanks but no thanks. Again, not all smugglers peddle wares on a vendor. The smuggler HIMSELF is the vendor. Somebody doens't like the deal? Grab him by his shirt and ruff him up. Unarmed style. No blasters.

Smugglers are supposed to try to seem as innocent as possible as they break the law, so the real question should be "Why Pistols 4?" Unarmed skills are a concealed weapon, but a pistolin your handis pretty obvious.

We're not a full blown COMBAT profession either, contrary to popular belief. We sell drugs. We make tools that aid us in a skilll that we sell. We sell influence (faction points) that's THREE businesses right there. And what's the business line do for your smuggling? It makes it so YOU aren't doing the selling. You're "smuggling drugs" to a guy who sells them for you (your vendor you get with bus. 3). An imperfect solution and analogy sure, but get in where ya fit in I always say.

Just a quick question, does everyone hate the Unarmed requirement because it is not truely fitting to the smuggler profession or is it because unarmed 4 is a real bear? I'm guessing it is because unarmed 4 is a pain, I know I was mad to find out VK still give you a speed bonus without a cert after I did unarmed with my fists lol


Just hang in there guys, the reward of being a smuggler is worth all the unarmed pain

Both for me actually. The initial requirements WERE Business 4 AND Eng. 4 instead of unarmed. I thought they should just drop one of them instead of trading them both for anothe combat requirement. Business 4 always did and still does make more sense to me as a hybrid profession.
