AoE is broken, because its not even living up to its old intended percentage that was going to be raised anyways - 10% Base/100% elemental.
Elemental damage does not scale so far, so that 90 heat elemental on your PFT just adds to the base damage. Having elemental just as AoE, I could see being remotely concievable if it scaled and was almost nearly comparable, but it isn't. You'll be aggroeing everything in a 6 meter radius, and doing what a player with a CDEF would do, while being systamatically beaten up in the process. We aren't tankers...
Now, apply this to all our weapons. Throw in the statement that commando has the game's most powerful AoE...
If that could be true, then the Devs are whack...which is not necessarily the case

AS long as i do great damage once again i am happy ... Rifleman should not be better than us in this department.. AS soon s gernades get fixed then we will be set.
All in all it sounds like we will be better in soloing after this patch.. acculy proably better over all. O i cannot wait

I really don't want this to sound like I'm screaming NERF at other professions (I'm not a jedi, so thats not my department), but the moment the devs say that 10% base, 100% elemental is our *intended* AoE damage I'd have to point to Carbineer, Pistoleer fan shot, and BH spray shot and say "Uh, hello?".
ANY AoE damage less than 100% that we do just translates to "hey everything in sight, come chew on me!" with the new hate system and level-difference based damage multipliers. I can understand that the devs are concerned with combining a damage special and an AoE weapon, but they need to figure out a *solution* to that problem rather than keeping our whole profession in limbo while they stew over the hole that they have dug for themselves.
What if commando had 2 "specials" that toggled whether we would be using an AoE "garden hose" sweep technique, or a precise-aim, single target shot? When in AoE mode, our weapons would use the cone/radius/penetrating line Area Effect built into the weapon, do 100% base AND elemental to everything in the area of effect, and would not work with any special attacks, only standard "ranged shot". In single mode, any AoE features of the weapon would be turned off, and we could use crossover specials from other professions.
That would be somewhat unweildly and complicated perhaps, but at least it would allow the devs to crank up our damage so that we could fulfill our "intended" role of 5-star offense.

Exactly my view on the matter. No matter how you figure it, even if you're doing 1800 dmg with improved legshot, your AoE won't come close to that of fanshot, let alone marksman specials. Commando's damage with marksman abilities is roughly the same as fanshot, and the AoE should be the same (or perhaps 36% better like how my carbines work with AoE specials it seems). Where we give up our own specials, we get in exchange the ability to do that 1800 damage over a 6 meter radius with legshot...
Throw in a few non-AoE weapons that have some built in modifiers (like a chance of critical hit, for example)...and we would be perfect.
