I agree with the original poster. The level system completely takes skill out of combat for most people. Sure PvP may still be skill based, but most players don't participate in PvP. We PvE.
Old system could of easily been fixed by adding a special pool, one more bar, so that docs could heal the mind. This new system, there really is no need for both an action adn a mind bar, they simply kept it from simplicity of programming. The new system is a clumsily put together hybrid of old SWG and EQ2.
The level system also has avery obvious flaw, it gives you a level based on your skill set as a whole. This is a terrible diea as it doesn't allow you to change your template. Even after I obtained a tier 4 brawler skill, the appropriate mobs I should of faught witha cdef pistol would yield little to no exp. Now Imagine if you wanted to do a hybrid say, Master Commando, Master Tera Kasi. In order for you to adequately level, you must go through all the low level boxes at the same time. If not, then you severely hinder your growth.
What good are defenses? What good are states? Specials? None, in this system. There are no tactics, there are best weapons, best specials, spammability (and easy ways to by pass timers to increase your spamming) and best armor. Not to mention, the tanks have no real ways to actually tank. Anyone can stack enough to max out the melee and range defenses as well as get the most appropriate armor.
At least in the old system, you could challenge yoruself to go after any level creature. The potential to win was always thier. Now you have complete inability to do this.
Edit: Why the CU won't work: Because it doesn't do what it was suppose to, end spammability, end stackers, end FoTM. It does appear to fix some specials, it does seem to add balance since everyone willhave the same specials and mods. But it completely trivializes Doctors and armorsmiths. It changes the playstyle of fencers (which is now not replaced with any other profession) andcombat medics. Nothing was inherently wrong with the old combat system, it simply had programming errors that could have been corrected, and mods balanced.
I will bet anything, the reason the CURB ended up the way it did is that SOE is looking for consistancy in programming among all its games so that they can more easily shift internal resources.
After 2 weeks of critically discussing these issues with no positive changes (only positive changes were correcting errors taht should of been detected in internal testing), I doubt we will see any substantial improvement prior to the May 5th deadline.

Please don't proceed to tell me how I feel about this profession and this game - I am very well aware of my feelings towards both and can assure you that your assumptions are incorrect. I have always been active in the games direction when I felt that my input was required, and right now is one of those times. I do not think that I am "bailing out before it gets good" because I think that the whole CU system is fundamentally flawed, and I have explained why quite in depth on a number of threads. If you think that it will be better to be a well balanced profession in a broken system rather than a broken profession in a functional but poorly designed system, that is your opinion. However, do not dare try to impose your opinion on me through your derogatory tone - very few bend to this sort of juvenile idiocy and I am not one to.
As I say, if you like the CU, enjoy the game. However you must realize that 75% of people voicing their opinion disagree with you. Maybe that is an inaccurate sample, maybe it is not, but it is the only number we have - and it is grim.
It's not that grim to me. It just shows that people are afraid of change and refuse to be paitent.

Nothing here indicates fear of change or lack of patience. You may enjoy the CURB as it is on TC3, many of us do not. Not because we fear change, or are impatient, but because the CURB failed to live up to what we were told it was going to do.
CURB was suppose to balance all professions, I will say it does, on paper.
CURB was suppose to reduce template stackers, in reality it encourages it. Melee is still able to master 3 elite professions, a normal all range profession can master marksman, 2 elites and 4430 of a third. Allowing people to be all three roles (dmg, tank, crowd control).
CURB was suppose to introduce tactics and get away from best attack, best weapon, best armor. That is simply not true, in the game there is a best special, a best armor and a best weapon for every skill level. There also is little in terms of new tactics compared to the old way of doing something, and tehre certainly aren't any real counter moves as they said there would be.
Then there is the largest flaw of all in the CURB, combat to some of us is completely unimmersive and no longer feels like we are in the SWG universe. Everything tied to your level means that leveling anything new will be difficult (which it shouldn't that was the appeal of the original skill trees, build and change your own template) and very little skill needed to fight the AI.
None of this means I or anyone else fears change or are impatient, it means we do not get enjoyment from this new system, while we did get enjoyment from the old broken system. This is exaclty like the jedi revamp, the communities ask for fixes, balance passes, and instead they trash the old system and place something new that no one really wanted to begin with. Afterwards, some people liked it, some did not, but it didn't really improve anything.

Then you will probably be one of the few left. If this hits live, my three accounts are gone and I won't be back. You show a complete lack of understanding of the issues with your simplistic comment.
