Support role I think not, a commanod is supposed to be and elite solder that moves in fast and hits hard not someone that moves in fast, gets too close and gets killed. This is a class that has never worked right and only half works now, that is why people are mad about commando. Coming in this forum and talking about how you use your overpowered pet to tank and camp the jedi spawns will not get anyone to agree with you.

We already had balance with delays, short range and accuracy. A 2.5x panealty was going way overboard.

We arent like EQ monks, were like EQ wizards, we pack a punch and go down in one hit.

But look around, my box says SWG, not EQ.

This game was suppose to be nothing like EQ, now we get forced grouping and class dependancies.

Plus we are fighting wildlife, not NPC's 90% of the time and thats like EQ too.

Commandos arent tanks without a 2.5 melee penalty, they cant stand there and tank a rancor without the penalty, the only thing the penalty does is make us drop in one hit. It's not needed.

Just because some classes are in "Dire" need of fixes, doesnt mean all the other classes should shut up.

Everyone deserves fixes, and nobody deserves a 250% damage penalty, its retarded.

Forced grouping is the reason why EQ is the most successful mmorpg to date.

Providing targets that require a group, even including MCH's would actually greatly help this game.

Right now when I do missions, I group with pets to get a better mission and store them since they aren't needed.

EQ? Never did like it much, thats why I went to Ultima. The thing is, if you force people to group as they have been talking about a bit, it really sucks for those of us that have strange hours and dont have time to play a whole lot. You need to have some things that encourage groups but not kill the solo player. It is a ROLE playing game, what if your persona is a loner.

As far as using a Graul, thats obserd that we should have to do that. Wheres the flexability in the game? Seems to be ok for a MCH to have flame 4 but not a Master comando to have a graul. Im assuming you have the infamous 2 "dabler branches" the CH's complain about. Enjoy it while you can cause you'll only be able to use level 30 pets when this next patch goes in.

Using a pet is a great strategy but we're talking about our skills not strategy, and we shouldnt have to use a pet on things that it says looks weak to you but you do cause one missed shot and you die. Im only at flame 2, I miss a lot and have to wait a long time for a flamecone or single reload.

well that's a pretty bad strategy if you ask me. why not use flamesingle 1 on each mob while they're hitting your graul? why not use suppression fire to make them all kneel at least once. why not use flamecone 1 again? what if you miss one on your initial shot? why not toss in some grenades. why not stack the other 2 flame DOTs on the mobs. the latter 2 i'm guessing you don't do because you don't have the skills yet. but the other 2 will save your graul some health, save you some pet stims, and overall, save you some creds.

so, it sounds to me like you're not a master commando. and you think you can tell us what is and isn't broken with this profession? i'm not trying to be elitest and say that only master commandos know how to play the commando class. i'm not here to rip on dabblers. i even dabble myself a little in CH (you have to now a days). but you cannot fully grasp what is working and what isn't working in this profession until you have tried it all. getting acid single 1, or cryoban grenade certification isn't going to tell you what's fully wrong with this class.

and on the melee note, the last time i checked, if someone were to try and melee a wild beast, like say a bear, they'd get their ass handed to them. it should be no different in starwars. when was the last time you saw someone use melee in starwars that wasn't a jedi? that's right, you don't. this is starwars. you shoot things. youwield a laser. if you duel someone using a sword, and your opponent has a gun, who do you think would win? i would think the guy with the gun would. so instead of fixing melee to be some super being that are able to tackle bears and defeat gun toting foes with their bare hands, they should make the game follow the continuity of starwars, like they claimed they wanted to do from the start.

and on the group forcing note. some characters are supposed to solo. the bounty hunter profession is one of them. the whole investigation tree basically forces you to solo. if you group with someone, they cannot attack your mark (to my knowledge anyways. if i'm wrong, please correct me). oh, so now the BH has to use his LLC on his mark, because it has medium armor and 10k. uh oh, now he's in melee range, and his mark just pulled out a pike. better get his friend to sick the graul on it. oh wait, that's right, he can't because he can't participate. well, one hit and the BH is dead. i guess they should incorporate group BH missions now too huh? maybe they should also have group missions for medics and doctors. entertainers get more xp when they group up, why not the medics? let them get minimal xp unless they all share a patient, that'll force them to group up.

fact of the matter is, you shouldn't HAVE to group in this game. it can be fun. it can be exciting. but its not always as rewarding.

Enjoy it while it lasts. After the CH change, you'll be relying on a Wart to do your tanking, lol. Either that or you master CH to get your mauler, but then you can't come in the COMMANDO forum and say its not broken whenyou only haveone tree in the profession (which is the most uber combination in the game btw). This is coming from an ex Commando and new MCH & future MTK, thanks to the devs wonderful balancing ideas.

Im not saying its bad to dabble, everyone has to do it because that is the way the game was intended. Just don't come in and say nothing is wrong with a profession just because you have one tree that works for your character. According to your logic this means Smuggler is fixed because a Master Pistoleer uses the Pistol tree. Lets just forget the other trees since that doesn't concern you right, lol.

you say you're playing the class smartly..while also saying stop whining about our weapons...

not everyone has a mauler...not everyone should even use one

using a CH/Commando in a scenario with 5 force crystal hunters..is a very poor example

if you actually did things with a pet, and just commando..you'll see why we're still a broken class

EQ forced people to group by having powerful and interesting PvE opponents to tackle. SWG does it by taking boring low-level and mid-level mobs and making them do 250% of their normal damage.

Grouping to take on an Elemental Lord in EQ: Interesting.

Grouping because you're afraid ofsoloing on bunnies on Rori: Not so much.

The problem is that the devs don't seem to have any ability to manage EXPECTATIONS. I know that Raph Koster has spoken about doing just that, but it appears to have been all talk. They give us something, then follow it up almost invariably with a nerf. They need to start just adjusting classes upwards, as a rule, until they all "work" on some level (even DE), then add content, THEN worry about fine tuning game balance.

Does anyone believe that adding the melee penalty to commandos was more helpful to the game than either (i) making droids non-worthless or (2) adding some interesting new opponents?

On the other hand, given the devs apparent inability to maintain balance, I suppose I should be happy they aren't mucking with content. They aren't remotely qualified. Fear the space expansion.
