Can you say Clone wars? 100s of commandos and 100s of jedis. Nuff said. I was just beginning to feel special too.

Anyone else find it kinda funny/ironic that, in the end, commandos are the only combat profession left, out of all the originals?

Sure we may have sucked, but... we live!

Or:

That now we'll become the true combat specialist we always wanted to be...but, we're like that guy in the twilight zone episode who spent his time reading in his bank's bank vault, and a nuclear bomb was dropped on the city leaving him as the sole living person in the general area. Then his glasses broke.

Pray, pray...something like that doesnt happen!

Seriously, I do find it a bit ironic...we're the best combat specialist, and the only one that's left. SOE Irony for ya.

Would spies count?

I actually think it's kind of ineteresting how they opted to handle it, giving pretty much everyone but traders access to some form of weaponry (though IMOtraders should get something like a holdout blaster, at the very least).

It's a shame they couldn't think of a way to include pet classes in on this though; it doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to have a player control a few AI creatures.

Well trader wont be attackable from the looks of it. Which might pose a problem in the DWB (trader going in with all the keys...lol), but again we'll have to see how it works out.

Im betting this is the first in a long line of new stuff coming as a twitch combat system (in my opinion again), can support a lot more than what we were used to. Fortunately all of this all boils down to the possibilities tied with the GCW. To speak frankly, this is an area which caught most of my interest...as under a more twitch-like system, vehicles can (in my theory) be supported. They won't need defenses or armour stats to prevent them from being instantly destroyed when 3 players decide to gang up on a vehicle (what would be the point of a vehicle then?), or a vehicle firepower being so powerful that we'd get insta-deaths...

Maybe Im a bit crazy, but tanks and the such has been something I've been really thinking about and how they could be implemented into SWG (ever since the two tank threads). It always made sense that somehow, twitch was going to be needed for at least fire-control on vehicles otherwise it would be a point, click, sit back in an impervious vehicle...

For better or for worse, if SOE can pull this off (which...really is now a "we'll believe it when we see it", which I agree with)...this could literally open a lot of doors to the GCW.

Edit: And specifically to us...our original tagline is back. It's been 2 years since we were to be "tank smashers" or "base busters" or "breaking resistance on the battlefields" and such. We've heard it before (a little bit in the CU too), but such a role is a lot more plausible in a twitch-based combat system. So heh, we may actually see our original role from beta come to a realization...

Now, this is what I am truly excited about and I admit I am. Always been a fan of that sort of combat, and the idea of firing my flamethrower anywhere sorta makes me drool with anticipation lol. The class system is still tbd with my opinion, as well as other stuff...but I am looking forward tomarrow (tentatively), in trying out twitch. Maybe it'll suck, maybe it'll be good...we'll have to just see.

Hmm, I just realized something - if it's twitch-based now, will we have to reload weapons? Or is it going to be a limitless ammo sort of thing?

If it's the latter, I predict a lot of random gunfire.

Or making someone "dance" in a cantina...literally Lol

Should be interesting - maybe all weapons will have ammo packs? or rather than decay, will have a set amount of charges that will make it burnt out after a while?

I'd perfer ammo packs as that was more in tune with SW games/movies, as well as decay as weapons do eventually burn out. Plus, it'll help out the crafters who already have been delt blow after blow.

Edit: Gotta love inspiration, posted this in the corro forums regarding a hot issue w/ the removal of item decay:

I got an idea! How about this:

Introduction of "Ammo Packs" - All ranged weapons, and melee weapons that have vibro-blades will need "ammo packs" to replenish the tibanna gas charges, or the vibration energy of a weapon.

Also, bringing back item decay - but much slower than before (at least for weapons only...because of ammo packs).

This would be two fold:

1) Not only make it where weapons will eventually "burn out" as before, but give crafters MORE stuff to craft and be MORE of a significance to the combat professions. This could also help with loot-only weapons (hey...who's going to make the ammo?)

2) Give combat more of a SW feel to the combat players and an unknown factor in combat.

Lets say you're a band of rebels defending a fort from an imperial army...your men are pinned with their backs to a cliff. They must fight their way out or hold the fort until reinforcements arrive, but are vastly outnumbered by the imperial forces. Supplies are limited, a rebel commander orders his troops to not fire until they see "the black eyelids of their stormtrooper helmets".

A climatic battle ensues...the rebels slowly dwindle in number, a corporal yells to his squadmate for an ammo pack as he's almost out...pretty soon the beleagured rebels will have to fight hand-to-hand or fix bayonets (heh another...wonderful thing that could be added). Just then, off in the distance several large troop transports arrive on the scene and rebel troopers flank the imperials. Officers run in, calling orbital strikes against the imperial troop formations, one or two officers enter the fort and call down a resupply transport to give ammo packs and grenades to the rebels inside. Slowly, the combined effort pushes back the imperial forces and wins the day.

Now THATs something I want to experience in this new combat system...

I don't like the idea of ammo for a couple of reasons:

1) Lots of players are really upset with these new changes. Less players = less vendors.

2) We have to wait for these players to actually make the ammo. Yikes. Who knows when that would be...

If they DO put ammo in, there's gotta be NPCs who can give you basic ammo. Players could then make upgraded ammo that could do more damage or something.

It doesn't matter what we think people will do. The fact is that there are only 4 combat professions in the new game: Jedi, Bountry Hunter, Commando, and Smuggler. Take a good look at what they gave us. That means on any battlefiled, 1 in 4 will be a Commando and the others will be completely out of place, but they don't give a damn and they've destroyed our game anyway. Anytime you seige a base, the only people fighting will be Commandos. Well, that's great, but if we're the Commandos, who's gong to be the soldiers?

Imagine gong to a Star Wars battle to take down a base and the soldiers are all Jedi and Smugglers. The fact is they have destroyed group PVP and they demonstrate no interest in keeping it. This is a phase out. This new game they're pushing on us is nearly identical with EQ2, and not only is that cheap and challow and devoid of any depth. G4 TECH TV rated EQ2 very poorly and recommended everyone try WOW stating that EQ2 had no depth, had a storyline that dead ended and went no where and was really a basic MMO for young beginners. This is the game they are giving us. This is what our SWG will be and it's too late. It's been completely destroyed, as if a million voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I really don't think even if I do like the combat, that I will NOT like this new game they're forcing us to accept. it all seems so pointless now. Take a look at the threads and read between the lines and see JUST HOW MUCH they are removing from the game, and you'll wonder why you're even still reading this nonsense.
