Thread: Weapons Not Very Star Wars
An e-web or light repeating blaster would be self-explanatory to code, but the turrets are more in line with placeable structures and vehicles, nothing a commando can carry. Threre are placeable turrets in the game, but automatic and mostly on battlefields and with fp. I do believe I have seen those dish-turrets at the rebel hideout on Corellia, by the way. havent had a chance to try, butrocket launchers and PBC's are supposed to be our anti-vehicle weapons. I went to the Imperial Prison on Dathomir with a bunch of PA buddies, and we had one heckof a time trying to take down an AT-ST. It hadAR 3, so our pets and blasters only did 10-15 damage perhit. Made a walkerwith 17k each on HAM seem like a 200k each beast that does 700-800 damage per hit. I'm still there, so I think I'll see how much damage the flamethrower does to one so I dont have to walk back to the outpost (~7k walk).
First off, just because flamethowers and acid rifles were never mentioned in books that focused on the same group of poeple every time (luke, han, leia, chewbacca, the solo children, etc) doesn't mean they couldn't exist. Just because they have blasters, a type of weapon that we can't build today, means that everything has to be some form of blaster? I think not. Tusken rifles are kinetic weapons...that means they shoot BULLETS! Yes! Good ol fashioned little chunks of metal. And they'll kill ya good and dead same as any blaster bolt.
On another note, just because SWG is a game doesn't mean they can't have the right to create new content. If what you're saying is true, EVERYTHING in EVERY SW game or book would have to be based off the original trilogy. No E-wings, no Republic class star destroyers. No bigger, better, badder spaceships and weapons that you'd see in in the later SW books. Not only that, but Han and Leia would never get married. They'd never have kids. Luke would remain the only jedi in the galaxy, and he'd always be single.
Anyways, I don't mean for this to be a flame, I'm just pointing out that they have the right to make content for this game. And until that content works, I don't particularly care for them to try and add anything new. In a few months, sure, ask them for E-webs and the like, but right now just gimme a functional launcher pistol and flamethrower please!

OK.... Not all of the books focus on Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, Lando, etc. The Rogue and Wraith Squadron books relate the exploits of other characters, many of which have commando skills such as demolitions, sniping, and intelligence gathering.
Also, you'll see in one of my earlier posts that I did suggest slug throwers. I'm not saying that new weapons can't be created, just that they need to have a Star Wars "feel" to them. The slug thrower you mentioned isn't just a rifle, it's a TUSKEN rifle. They were seen in the films and even if they hadn't been, making them Tusken long arms gives them the appropriate feel.
On the other hand, why don't we have phaser rifles. Let me see. Hmmm.... Maybe because this isn't Star Trek! ![]()
See? I think we can both agree that there is a point where the weapon just doesn't feel like Star Wars. We may just disagree on where that point is. Gatling guns, automatic grenade launchers, rail guns? My feeling isn't that flame throwers or acid rifles are terrible, just that there are a lot of "Star Wars" type heavy weapons that would have fit better.
Humbly,
Jango hada flamethrower
I like the idea of a launcher pistol. A lot of these are "implied" in the fact that we didnt see much of the ground based civil war like we did in Ep 2. i think they should have repeating rifles. Speed kills in this game and launcher pistols are the only "speedy" gun we have. Flamethrower and Acid rifle could easily be one skill tree, they have all the same stuff ![]()
Can you even imagine trying to fight an AT-ST with a flame thrower? A flame thrower can't even burn it's way through MODERN tank armor, let alone uber-SW materials. The only thing flame throwers are good for is clearing out bunkers and fox holes, not taking on armored vehicles or turrets.
Heh... I just got this image of a poor Rebel soldier running up to an AT-AT to get in range with his flame thrower, and then being promptly stepped on.

This is exactly what many of us are thinking. Why dont we have blaster repeaters? Where are the blastech e-webs? Where are the blastech T-21 Light Repeating Blasters? Obviously these would have drawbacks, like setting up a stationary e-web (from empire strikes back) would be very vulnerable to melee and have an exremely limited firing arc at close range

Does anyone find it strange that we already get a 3x damage multiplier from melee even though we are master unarmed?? Where is the sense in that??
Seems to me they are already making us vulnerable to melee like we were using tripods but not giving us the guns to go with the fact we are vulnerable??
Yet they still have the time to nerf all the good experience spots before we have a chance to get any weapons that will allow us to level up in a timely fashion like all the other classes that are exploiting their way to Master status and that is total BS!!!
Actually flamethrowers were used effectively against armored targets.
Imagine being inside a tank and someone with a flamethrower ducks around a corner and starts roasting the metal around you!!!
Metal conducts heat bud. Not to mention the gas tanks tended to get heated at the same time and that is when they explode.
Flamethrowers were very effective if you were able to get the range in close to use them without being taken out by infantry or machine guns.
"-Anti-Vehicle Turret (the big dish-like ones from Hoth)"
When I think of HEAVY WEAPONS that rebels used in the movies, that's the one that immediately that spring to mind.
Think about how PERFECT something like that would be for the commando class. It'd be almost like a battlement, and obviously involve all sorts of different crafting classes to make one. It'd obviously be very cumbersome and very short lived (i.e. charges and some other limitations) ... BUT ... it'd pack a HUGE whallop, and really make you feel you're IN the star wars movies because of the look and the graphics. I sincerely hope that they make something like this available once vehicles go live. It'd be a nice way to incorporate vehicles into combat.
That being said, I think the commando primary weapon should be something akin to a grenade launcher type of rifle. Where it puts out regular rifle (or pistol or carbine) damage, but has specials charged into it that put out heavy weapons type of damage. And the charges need to be replenished rather briskly (so as to not turn it into an automatic grenade launcher type of deal).
And I think with the class being focused on heavy weapons ... I mean really ... there's so much MORE one could do than just grenades and a gimpy flame thrower.
The possibilities are limitless in the star wars universe. So many big, bad-ass-clunky-as-heck weapons that they could bust out for the class to use.
Heck I was reading the Boba Fett one-shot comic the other day from Dark Horse a year or two ago ... and he had a one-man ion cannon that he used to take down a pretty big target. That right there is a perfect commando weapon.
I'd like it to make more sense though...
Ok, we have to have Unarmed Specialist, because commando's sneak up on folks and whack them. No new Certs in stealth, concealment, vibro-knives ( A favorite weapon of Page's Commando's, and the Noghri Commando's as well) or anything. just something for us to chew up points in so we're less versatile.
Go to Wraith Squad for references (or any commando / sf source) and there are snipers as well. Yet there's no sniper shot for us, or new rifle certs.
Blaster repeaters (Carbine style smg's- usually supressed) are also non-existant in game at all, and should be the life's blood of a commando.
A typical Commando squad would not have everyone walking around w/ rocket launchers and flamethrowers. It would be so refreshing to see the trees make sense. How about one for Explosive Ordanance, One for wetworks (vibro-knife fighting elite stuff & stealth), One for Hvy Weapons, and One for Light Repeaters. Anything would be an improvement over how we waste 4 weapon skills to lose all our bonuses only to have to start over, and find out that every skill we've honed to this point means jack. Heck, we can't even use the Ranged support branch w/ our hvy gear. *sigh*

The 3x damage modifier in melee combat is a myth. get it? It does not exist. If you claim there is a 3x modifier, then clearly you do not possess a heavy weapon and you are spreading disinformation. MYTH.
