Thread: Weapons Not Very Star Wars

I have seen all the films, have all the West End Games' rpg booksand have read approximately twenty-five of the novels and don't remember ever hearing about flamethrowers, launcher pistolsor acid rifles being used in the Star Wars universe. I haven't read the Bounty Hunter novels, so feel free to correct me if they're mentioned there.

My complaint is that Commando heavy weapons should be more in line with cannon and semi-cannon Star Wars weapons. Instead of flame throwers, launcher pistols and acid rifles we should have repeating blasters, sonic weapons and ion cannons. The particle beam rifle seems fine, though the resources to build them aren't even available on my server (Gorath). The grenades are also fine.

Other SWG weapons seem to be taken right from existing material, so why not the heavy weapons/

I'd be interested in the long guns used by the clone troopers in AOTC. They almost look like a laser version of a portable mini-gun

I would love to see a medium repeating blaster rifle. We should have stronger laser weapons even if they require us to carry around a portable fusion generator or something.

This is exactly what many of us are thinking. Why dont we have blaster repeaters? Where are the blastech e-webs? Where are the blastech T-21 Light Repeating Blasters? Obviously these would have drawbacks, like setting up a stationary e-web (from empire strikes back) would be very vulnerable to melee and have an exremely limited firing arc at close range.

We arent saying re-build the commando profession, just put the flamethrower and acid rifle in the same skill line and put repeater blasters in the empty one. We dont want to be uber, we want tobe USEFUL, we want to have a purpose. Garibaldi, please mention this to the devs at some point!

How about some of the weapons from the Dark Forces series of games? The repeater...rail detonator...concussion launcher.

I think the potential for a realistic "Star Wars" weapon could open the door for a good weapon we CAN use as our primary. This would certainly be more justifiable than the launcher pistol.

Sorry but I have to disagree here. Dark Forces is another GAME with its emphasis on playability not remaining true to Star Wars. Yes, many of the weapons in that game do come from the Star Wars universe but others, like the rail detonator, were added just to provide a bigger pool of weapons.

Games often distort things to make them more playable. That's why individual fighters can sometimes take out Star Destroyers in the X-Wing series of games. That NEVER happens in the books, movies or rpg.

Anyway, I'd really like to see a change to canonical weapons such as the light and medium repeaters, heavy slug throwers, ion weapons and sonic weapons. Flame throwers and acid rifles.... What's next bazookas, tazers, and M16's?

You mean, like a single X-wing taking out a huge (if not completely free of design flaws) battle station? Or,a single A-wing takingout the shieldsa super stardestroyerfleet's command ship, allowing another A-wing to destroy it by crashing into it's bridge? Or even a single fighter, flown by a nine year-old boy could destroy one capital ship and render an entire droid army useless? By the way, I'm not disagreeing with your point, just pointing out that your way of arguring it has some holes.

Pesonally, I think E-webs and light artillery would make battlefields more interesting(and fun).

Didnt "Shadows of the Empire" Game have a Flamethrower in it?

If anything the Commando class should be like Dash Rendar in that game heh

And yes, I think we should get E-Webs and the like

This is exactly what I was saying in the thread I started. Why don't we have canon weapons? It's ridiculous! A BlasTect T-21 Light Repeating Blaster should be our primary weapon, the largest blaster that can be carried and operated by a single soldier. Other things we need:

- A BlasTech E-Web

-Anti-Personnel Turret

-Anti-Vehicle Turret (the big dish-like ones from Hoth)

As I said before, why are commandos using such wimpy weapons (flame thrower? acid rifle? COME on) against armored vehicles such as the AT-ST and AT-AT? We might as well be throwing large pebbles.

I'm not sure if someone has said this already but boba fett and jango fett had a small flame thrower on one of their bracers.

I doubt he was very effective against Imperial walkers like we're supposed to be.
