I did, but thats what I know for sure. As far as any "general release", that is a team decision and I won't speak for others, though Tyrant will probably drop by with some more details at some point.

Those plans changed. It is no longer a combat balance and that doc is in the circular file.
This is very important. We had a team meeting and a change of plans. In time we will be releasing a lot of information, but we are going to go through this process one step at a time and right now, we are starting with makingthis announcment.

We will release information to the community and involve everyone in waves. First, the correspondents gave it a green light. Next in the alpha, we will integrate their feedback and bring in the Blue Glowies and the correspondent's Top 5 picks. We will review and upgrade everything and so on. It will be a wave of change that radiates out throughout the community.

We won't be answering any questions at this level just yet. We've put together a solid web resource to go along with all the docs and this information will be made available to people as they enter the beta testing.

I can't say too much because we are still doing our review of the details, but different classes will have different roles and different roles will require different types of armor to be successful.
One of the *very* clear messages I've heard from the community is that each profession wants to know what role they play in combat and that is part of this package.
I hope that answers some of your questions...And I hope to see ALL of you in the Beta...With as many Commando changes they are making I'm going to be STRONGLY pushing for all my Commandos to get into Beta as quick as possible...So get signed up Dang It!!!...

Garvin,
Since the correspondent summit, I've had a lot of faith that this revamp/balance/upgrade would be done right and that we'd receive a high level of communication from the devs in the process. While today is only the start of what's coming, I found something very interesting. Below are a series of quotes from TH that gives a very clear impression that they don't have any intention of providing design or vision docs to the community. I'm especially concerned about the statement that documentation from the time of the combat summit is no longer valid. I really hope they don't plan on letting the community go until after the holidays (once they're finally invited totesting)for vision details on the where professions will be post revamp. Please, if you can, give us some hope that theywillprovidemore detailed communication on what rolesourprofessions will be playing and a high level of some of the changes that are coming for those professions.

(1) People will get access to the Docs as they enter Beta...(2) Just like JTL, I'm sure the really cool stuff will leak back to the public forums fairly quick...let's be real...
This isn't the end all be all decission though...The Devs don't want to share info outside the Beta that may be in flux...The Correspondents are pushing for the "set in stone" stuff or more "general changes" to be released publically...I doubt this is the last cool announcement we've seen from TH...I'm sure he'll be sharing more soon (like the new Death/Incapp change)...

TH meant that the original doc (before the summit) was a plan just to balance the professions...that plan was dropped in exchange for the Combat Revamp doc/info we saw at the Summit...and trust me, it's much better then what they originally planned to do (just weapon and special balancing and that's it)...

TH did say that he expected the Alpha testing to start in a few weeks and then the Beta a few weeks later...anyone care to change their thoughts of when things will go live?

Don't know anything about this "web resource" but the Devs/Programmers will be responding to people in the same fashion that they did in the JTL Beta forums...anyone in there say them give folks some serious attention and always quick to answer question or take feedback...The Devs just won't be answering the Beta related insider questions in the public forums for awhile....

Wow, missed that he revealed that...Yes...Different classes will have access to different types of armor...Armor is about to become MUCH more strategic...if you want some armor that your class isn't cert'd for...well...go dabble for it...OR...take the route that is "armorless" and won't miss it (hint hint)...
Woohoo, I've been waiting on that change for ages! I can't stand wearing armor... my clothes look so much cooler. ![]()
Not to mention that no one in Star Wars even wears armor, aside from Stormtroopers, in the films.
The key thing to remember is that Armor effects how you perform (the encumberance and such)...so imagine if a Commando didn't have to wear armor and could still compete against those that are wearing armor...It will all depend on how strategically you spend your skill points...If you play your cards right, you won't miss the armor...but the question then becomes, what will you be sacrificing to be able to go armorless...something to keep and eye/ear out for in the upcoming weeks....

Thanks garvin. I just feel that the sooner they can communicate their "vision" for each profession to the community, the better received these changes will be. Things like changes todeath/incapp are cool, but I think what players reallywant to hear about are where their professions will be post-revamp. I definitely know this won't be the last communication from the devs and they don't want to discuss things in flux...and they shouldn't,but the role of, say,a commando in combat post revamp is far from in flux. I know you and the rest of the correspondents are pushing to get those things released to the public...our hopes and prayers are with you

This is *not* a flame:
Go do something else.
Seriously.
There is NO point driving yourself nuts doing something you don't like for 6 months. You'll just end up bitter and twisted.
Take a break. Play something else for a while. and when you miss your ingame buddies, you can log in and say hi.
Not being here for 6 months doesn't mean you won't get the changes.
no hard feelings. my account ended last month. i liked the game back in the day, hopefully after the combat whatever they call it it will be fun again and i will be back then
You sign up for Beta...TH said that he expected the Alpha testing to start in a few weeks...and then a few weeks later Beta will start...that sounds like at most 2 months (actually less)...Then he said Beta should only take a month or two...so rather then 6 months, we are looking more at 3 or 4 months at most....

I thought TH said that beta wouldn't begin till after the holidays? Perhaps I misread that...I'll go back and look.
That's the thing...which holidays...They could start after Thanksgiving...Christmas...New Years....He also said he exected things to get rolling in a few weeks...and then for Beta to start a few weeks later...
Don't worry about new Armor...be more interested in the way Armor will change how it works...The armor we currently use will be changing how it functions...and players will have REASONS to wear other armor types besides Composite...there will also be good reasons to go Armorless...
