This is meant to be a postive post offering some testing advice for TH to better understand our issues...

He stated the other day that he and a Dev friend logged into TC as Master Commandos and fought each other in a Cantina. I do not believe that was an accurate test to understand our difficulties...

TH...please try your test again...except this time try the following combinations:

Master Commando VS Master TKA - Start next to each other...Flame Special VS Spammed Dizzy/KD...

Master Commando VS Combat Medic - Start at 30m...Deal with ranged disease attack...

Master Commando VS Bounty Hunter - Start at 30m...Deal with ranged kiting and Mind Bleed...

Master Commando VS Any Ranged Profession - Start at 30m...Just deal with ranged kiting...

Master Commando VS Marksman Pistol Tree Only - Start at 30m...Again deal via ranged kiting...

Now remember...Commando is the "Heavy Weapon Specialist" of the game...We have "apparently" one of the most feared weapons and specials in the game...capable of causing serious grief...In all the above test scenerios, who is the victor? Don't use any secondary profession dabbling as not all Commandos have the same templates.

There are plenty of other combos for you to try, but Master Commando Vs Master Commando is just to even to fairly judge our profession...

Now, once you've tried fighting all those combinations, think about adding in the "no stacking" rule and "fire extingishers"...Our advantage (as you and others have expressed)doesn't seem to unfair once you've been in all these types of fights...

Commando's are designed for one on one PvP style combat mainly. The commando fills the role of the group support profession, the damage dealers. They fall into the same field as the rifleman who needs to be stationary to have decent accuracy and is again a support combat profession. The test they did was to see what the situation was with the burning DOT which I have been saying along with others has been overpowered for ages and in PvP allows for what is essentially a one hit kill and has griefing potential.

But that's EXACTLY where the arguement on testing comes in...if 2 folks stand face to face and fire Flame Specials at each other OF COURSE the DoT looks too powerful...that successful leaves out all the restrictions our specials deal with...I could win every single battle if my opponent stands infront of me, within 16m, and allows me to flame special them...

BUT...if I never get within 20m of my opponent, how overpowered is the Flame DoT in a battle where it can't be used?

The fact that the Flame DoT incapps again right after someone finishes a incapp timer is a KNOWN BUG...the timer is suppose to start over once the player finishes their incapp timer...what is currently happening is that as soon as the person stands back up the immediately get hit with another Burn...if the timer worked properly a HUGE part of the arguement would be taken out (incapp griefing).

Our DoT is the way it is because of a couple points:

  1. The restrictions the DoT has placed on it...

  2. The fact that the Commando Profession costs so many skill points...

With all the Nerfing proposed, we still face the 2 above points...we still have the same restrictions and we still cost the same about of skill points...Balance is thrown way off...

If I stood face to face with BH, they could one shot kill me with the LLC...or with a TKA they could KD me over and over until death...Does that mean those 2 methods should be Nerf'd? Our FT is NOT to powerful...it's as powerful as it should be thanks to it's restrictions...if it had the same restrictions that that other DoTs do, I'd expect our DoT to be a lot less powerful then it is now...but it doesn't so it should stay the way it is...the Bugs resulting from it should just be fixed...

Just out curiousity, I looked up some numbers to compare to Rifleman. They're from Allakhazam.com. (Hope these are accurate)

Master Commando - 169 skill points

Flame Thrower Accuracy +80
Flame Thrower speed+45

Master Rifleman - 92 skill points

Rifle Accuracy +140
Rifle Accuracy while moving +10
Rifle Speed +100

This doesn't tell the whole story (I think the comparison gets worse for Commando as you go) but specific to your comment, it doesn't look similar at all.

As for the Flame DOT being overpowered, I'd just say that I agree with garvin's post. It's difficult to land against a PvP opponent at all. Against a smart PvP opponent, it's nearly impossible.

jesus, and not only that but we have no defenses!!!!! we have no skill tapes for accuracy or speed......how many other professions can say that???? yeah there is heavy weapon speed skill tapes but they don't do anything since there is no such thing as heavy weapon speed......

we are freaking dead before you can even stack those dots.....we have to be close to even use the flame specials....a lot of the time they miss the person if he has a defensive template with most other professions other than commando have!!!!!!!!

I agree commando vs commando is not accurate test.....commando vs anything else is an accurate test and you'll see your dead before you get 2 specials stacked......do some dam testing before nerfing, thats all we ask.......do not gimp us more!!!!

Those are not accurate...

Flamethrower accuracy at Master is 110, not 80.

Rifleman accuracy is also incorrect, but I'm not precisly sure what it is...think around 170...

Oh... thanks.

I guess that Allakhazam needs to do some updating, heh.

Well, it doesn't change the basic point I was making anyhow.

Thanks again.

Here is what I believe is the most current totals...this is taken from a recent version of the SWG Prof Calc that was updated in the last couple of weeks (www.bloodfin.org). This is based on the professions primary used weapon.

Master Rifleman

Accuracy: +160

Speed: +90

Master Pistoleer

Accuracy: +95

Speed: +74

Master Carbineer

Accuracy: +130

Speed: +60

Master Bounty Hunter

Pistol Accuracy: +120

Pistol Speed: +80

Master Commando

Accuracy: +110

Speed: +45

No Pistol speed or Accuracy for our LP so with just markeman

Pistol Accuracy: +60

Pistol Speed: +30

So basically at master our accuracy with the FTis pretty good...but at just Flame 4 it's at +80 which is also pretty good (meaning that a Master and a Flame 4 dabbler are about as good as each other)...

We have less accuracy and speed because we have more power...we also have more power because we cost more pts then the other elite professions...now these proposed changes take our power away...so again I ask, what do we get in return?

We get nothing in return.
I mean, think about it, do you honestly believe that the devs don't know these things? Indeed, they do... they choose not to pay attention to them. Facts are facts, but once ignored they mean nothing.
I applaude your effort garvin. You attempt so steadfastidly to defend the commando profession, I feel a sense of sadness knowing the devs see not this effort.
