Thread: Flamethrower damage question- against enemies with no armor and no heat resists

Pardon the question, I'm new to commando and most likely have missed it, but it seems the heat resists are working a little too well. I was fighting a vicious huff dun with my flamethrower and the damage in the combat box wasn't matching up to the floaty numbers (a 5konly caused4k damage) but the enemy didn't have any armor nor any heat resists.

Is this common? Is this new to this latest patch? Am I nuts?

Thanks for the help

well, floaty numbers aside, when I hit a non armored, non heat resistant enemy with 4k HAM for 5k, I expect it to die and when it doesn't I get all sorts of confused. although your response is leading me to believe this is a common occurence

I once hit a durni, with a regular attack, with 826 floating above its head. Next second, that little rascal bit me......Needless to say...Durni barbeque that night.

so no one else can make a comment about enemies without heat resistances or armor not taking the full force of the hit?

is this a months old issue? I still haven't been able to find a post about it.

I just hit a tortur (10% heat resists, no armor) for 5981, he had 4892 health and it left him with a sliver of life.

if the math is my damage (5981) times the 1.25 modifier for PvE then I should have hit for 7476 (and then 10% less for the heat resists for a grand total of 6728). Even without the 1.25 modifier, the damage minus the heat resists should have hit for 5382, well over the health of the tortur. Is there some multiplier that I'm not aware of? A negative damage modifier I don't know about?

I hope this isnt a second post from me, Or they are banning me from posting anything?

Anyhow the damage inside of the combat tab is the actual dmg you do pre resistance, the damage above the head is the actual damage you do to it.

If you shoot flamesingle on for 4000 combat tab and the critter has light armor piercing and 50% resistance to heat you will hit it for 4000 x.25 =3000, 3000 x .50 = 1500, So id say 1500 is the actual dmg you do to it, Thats the number you see above there head.

yea, I should never had said the "floaty" number, it seems to be distracting people from the real issue.

the issue is something with 10% resistance to heat blocking 30% of the damage from a flame 1 shot and those with 0% resistsance to heat blocking somewhere from 0 to 30% (just fought a savage humbaaba with 0% flame resists and everything in the combat tab showed up above their head, so there was no unusual damgage reduction...however, with torturs there is always more than the 10% difference...it's closer to 22-30%).

also, not to nitpick, but your numbers don't jive. 4000 * .25 = 1000, not 3000...unless you're subtracting 25% of the damage for some reason, which is also part of my question...the formulas for damage. I was told it was: (weapondamage) * (1.25 represents a 25% bonus for PvE) * ((100-%resist to that damage type)/100)

and for the equation above, that's assuming a non armor piercing weapon against an unarmored opponent

try checking the numbers with melee resist, since you have to be within melee range for specials, they may have miscoded flame special damage to melee damage.

I have noticed the same exact thing, It seems to me that even though some things are vulnerable to heat and they have no armor it still hits them for less than what the combat tab claims to hit them for. I will check it tonight versus kinetic resistance and report back.

Heres what i believe:

The floating numbers take into account the damage total from all 3 bars while the combat spam only takes into account the main bar. (actually it may be vice versa, i dont remeber, but one is one, one is the other)

Well if SWG, actualy had an easy system of seeing what actual dmg you did i wouldnt be so freakin confused, This game is more complex then women, and thats saying alot. Just another one of Swgs cluster f****. Somehow i thought the number ubove the critters head was the actual dmg you did? And the combat tab was the total number of dmg you did without figuring up the armor rating and res.

Im confused now severly, I thought each armor rating was 25%, and then you add up the Resistance of that type of dmg. Then subtract it all from the number in the combat tab separetly. Yea i just killed some stuff with no res to heat and it was lower then inside the combat tab. This game is freakin jacked,,been that way since launch.
