FROM NOVICE MARKSMAN TO MASTER COMMANDO IN 10 DAYS!
(by Joost "By'Shop" Blom)
You probably wondered how those strong commando’s got their skills and power. After hearing some rumours about the need of an incredible amount of Combat Experience Points you accept the fact that becoming commando is not one of the things that is meant for you. Here I come in that becoming commando isn’t that hard at all, as long as you do it the right way. If you follow this tutorial you will be a commando in 10 days!
(DO KNOW THE WAY TO GET THERE THAT I USE IS RATHER BORING…)
This manual is also extremely useful for all the Holo-grinders out there…
For this tutorial I take a few standards to presume that someone playing at these ways will and shall become commando in 10 days.
-You play at least 5 hours a day.
-In all these hours you play you are ONLY occupied with doing what the tutorial says (this means you are not hanging around in the cantina for hours, selling your items OR shopping around the bazaar).
-You are disciplined and don’t take breaks.
-You know the basics of the game (how to learn new skills, input coordinates, use the planetary map, ctrl+V, as well as the radar map, ctrl+M and how to attack targets and use special skills)
In clock-hours you would then become commando between 50-100 hours of playing. (Some good players of course within 30 hours as well as slow learning players might take over 130 hours).
To start off I presume you are Novice Marksman, if not, go to one of the Marksman trainers (almost every city has one) and get trained in the Marksman skill for an amount of 100 credits.
Be sure you head (or even better start) in Corellia, at the city Coronet. This is the easiest place to get around and make quick progress trough your skills. If you are not here go to the local Starport (can be found on the radar map) and buy a ticket to Coronet on Corellia. If you do not have enough money head to a local mission terminal and do delivery missions. Find ones of 50-100 credits since they are the ones that stay inside the city/village making sure u wont have to walk too far. Once you have enough money by doing this over and over head to the Starport and buy a ticket to Correlia – Coronet.
Now you are a Novice Marksman and you find yourself in Coronet on Corellia.
First walk outside the city. You will notice that there are many creatures (and sometimes humanoids) outside the city gates. These will soon become your starting source of XP (experience points).
Go to the bazaar and browse the weapons tab. Find a CDEF rifle which is not too expensive (between 1-500 credits) and purchase it. Now head to the city gate and equip your CDEF rifle. Target one of the small animals outside and look at the square around it. There will be a small star on the right off it with a colour. When this colour is blue or green this monster is easy to defeat and you should fire your weapon at it. When it is dead you will gain so-called rifle XP. Now keep killing animals until you get a message saying you got enough XP to get the Rifles I skill. Head to the city square (in front of the starport) and shout. WHO CAN TEACH ME RIFLES 1?! Someone will soon invite you to his/her group and will offer you to learn this skill. Now you are one step closer to become a Master Commando…
Now shout at the city square that you are looking for a Sharnaff group. Sharnaff groups are people who hunt Sharnaff creatures who bring in lots of XP and cash. You can of course also look for someone who shouts he is forming a group. Once you are in follow the leader and the rest of the group until you arrive. Now take some range (40-50 meters) and wait until the others fire at one of these sharnaffs. Once they are join them in and fire at will. After some time it will fall and you will get loads of XP points. When it’s lair is destroyed you will gain lots of money 1000-3000 per lair on average. Now repeat this until you got 12000 credits. When you do so head to the city and press ctrl+P. You will get a menu. Go to the tab search and click on the proffesion sub-tab there. Change the word all into Weaponsmith by clicking at it. Now if a weaponsmith is present his name will appear in the menu at the underside. Now find the name of weaponsmith and type: /tell name Can you make me a good DLT-20a?
A DLT-20a is a rifle with good damage. On average it should be 100-160 damage (and a price of 3000-5000 credits) which is much more then your puny CDEF rifle. Tell the person where you are and arrange to meet and trade the rifle. (Be sure to withdraw money from the bank, which can be found next to the bazaar).
Now find another Sharnaff group and join in. Repeat the process until you got 20000 credits AND enough XP for Rifles 2 (so learn the skill) and head back to the city. Also whenever you got enough Combat XP learn the Ranged Support skills. Again find a weaponsmith, but ask this time for a Laser Rifle. (50-350 on average and around 5000-15000 credits). Head again to multiple sharnaff groups until you reach Rifles 4. Now return to the city and go to the bazaar. Get a D18 pistol and join with a sharnaff group again. Shoot and learn skills until you reach pistols 2. Then go to the city and find a weaponsmith to make a you a Scout Blaster. (60-120 for 5000 credits). Continue the sharnaff hunting and keep going until you got pistols 4.
Now get a DH-17 carbine and join another sharnaff group and kill the beasts until you reach carbines 3 and get a laser carbine (20-250 for 5000-15000 credits on average). Continue the hunting until carbines 4. By now you must have had enough Combat XP to reach Ranged Support 4. If not, keep fighting in sharnaff groups until you do.
HURRAY! You can learn Master Marksman. Do so ASAP.
Now go see a brawler trainer. Pay for Novice Brawler (100 credits).
Go to the city and find a weaponsmith. Ask this person to make you Vibro Knuclers. (Damage is not important as they simply increase your unarmed combat fighting speed, they will cost around 10000 credits). Unarmed combat is needed to reach Commando.
Walk outside and equip your Vibro Knucklers. Start beating up anything that has a difficulty of blue or lower. Do so until you reach unarmed 2. Now you will be tough enough to go along with sharnaff groups. Attack sharnaffs and watch your health. Don’t worry if you die a couple of times, its part of the unarmed progress (a true hell). Keep doing this until you reach unarmed 4.
HURRAY! You are now ready to become a Commando. Go to the city Kor Vella on Corellia to the coordinates -3344, 3292.
Talk to the Commando trainer and get Novice Commando for 5000 credits. Head back to Coronet on Corellia.
Now find a weaponsmith and ask for a Launcher pistol (30-150 for 5000-10000 credits) and go along with sharnaff hunts. For every sharnaff you kill you get Heavy Weapons XP. ONLY use that XP to gain flamethrower skills. When you reach Flamethrower 2 go to the city and ask a weaponsmith for a Flamethrower (400-800 for 10000-20000 credits). Now go along with sharnaff groups and keep using the flame-1 skill (press ctrl+A, go to combat tab and drag it to the tool/skill bar). Now the XP comes in with large amounts. Keep learning and killing until you get Flamethrower Skill 4 and use flame-2 in stead of flame-1. Keep going on Sharnaff groups until you got enough Heavy Weapon XP to reach up to Acid Skill 4 as well as Heavy Weapon 4 (since they use the same Heavy Weapons XP). Also learn the Field Tactics skill whenever you got enough XP to do so. Now keep on going sharnaff hunts until you got Field Tactics, Heavy Weapons, Flamethrower and Acid to level 4. Now learn Master Commando and you are done!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
from 3k xp, you would gain 300 combat xp..not 400..or at least you should
and this is only helpful for powergamers (note on must play 5 hours per day) thats 50 hours worth of grinding....but for the average gamer...like most here are, it doesnt help much more than simple tips
also...must criticize the grouping...over a span of 10 days, you prolly wont find a sharn hunting group that'll last you 5 hours, for 10 days straight...relying on groups is not the best of plans..and i have to agree on with the combat xp..back when i leveled novice (back when VKs were certified for brawler users) commando back around july...it took me an additional 200k unarmed xp (till i reached my limit..and more i think) to gain the last of the 40k combat xp i needed [I usually grind at Ft Tusken..and did so back then, and found VKs were best way to get lots of xp..and hence combat xp...only time i didnt do a massive grind there was on rori with the 1,100,000 xp in 12 hours grind to master gig...i can still hear them..]...unless you had extra combat xp..no way you'll make it all just by lvling the bare min for unarmed and MM
and the only thing hard about commando nowadays is the unarmed grind at times (after the VK cert being taken away mostly) and right when you get novice...best choice would be the LP..yet you use MM specials...so can get difficult until you reach at least HAR 1 or FT 1....also..to all the ppl who think its hard now to lvl commando...heh...shouldve tried doing it back during July/August/Sept....
Otherwise, nice effort on creating a handy guide.
