Thread: Testing defense modifiers
Ok folks. Here was that test. I was about to pick up TKA2 Percision Striking, so I decided to see how and if the defense modifiers were working.
I only tested the range defense.
The test was done with a Twilek Master Marksman on the attack at 0 mod range.
Prior to getting PS2 I had a ranged defense mod or 22.
In 182 shots I was missed 31 times, dodged 4 times and countered 4 times.
That gives me a 17% avoidence rate.
After getting the +10 from PS2 I was missed 41 times in 182 shots with 2 dodges and 1 counter.
So, my avoidence had gone up to 22.52%
Glad to see the mods are working.

p.s. Just to be clear, the dodges and counters are not totaled into the 'miss' number. They are there just for curiosity's sake.
Thanks

Repeat that test holding a rifle in your hand, then holding a vknuckler (or nothing) in your hand and then with a commando weapon in your hand.
I do not know if the ranged defenses from several proffessions stack. I hope they do.
Because in my case, if I get tkasi precision master, squad leader tactics4 and the ranged defense mods from master marksman, I can get +72 ranged defense modifier.
But what im afraid of is that those mods are tied to the weapon.
So it would suck if i switch to flamethrower, I would lose the +30 from tkasi.. or switch to vnuckler and lose the +17 from master marksman.
Anyone know if these ranged defenses stack and work no matter what weapon you wield?
BobbyJack is right. All the other skills that are profession specific say they are. I.E. "Melee Attack Speed."
I did not run the test with a weapon in hand for two reasons, first, my defense modifier in my skills window does not change when I have a weapon equiped. It is always 32 regardless of what I am doing. The other was because I did not want to a) pummel the guy that was doing the test with my launcher pistol or b) smash the "peace" button for 5 minutes and try to heal in between. However, this is a valid concern, so I will run the test again later tonight when my testing partner is on again.

Ranged defense (and presumably melee defense) works like negative accuracy mod.
Thanks for making the effort. I was planning on running up the TKA precision tree and doing the smae thing (and still may) but this is useful for everyone's character planning.
One thing though, I assume you had a heavy weapon equipped when running these tests?
Just making sure!
Ok. I went and ran the test again. All things were equal to the first run. And the result is...
22% Missed. Weapon in hand does not make a difference. Good thing too, cause my character template is as follows:
Commando 0/4/4/0
Pistoleer 0/4/4/0
TerasKasi 0/0/0/4
Fencer 4/0/0/0
Medic 2/1/0/0
I may move that pistoleer accuracy to speed, but I have a while before I need to make that decision.
