Thread: heres a problem i see with commando.
i'm not a commando....but i currently see a problem where the commando has to burn skill pts on the scout tree just to be able to walk up hills faster. rather than being forced to burn skill pts on explore 3 the commando should be getting +20 or so terrain negotiation anyway. i mean after all this is a commando we are talking about. hes a master marksman supposed hardass who has been battle trained and whatnot. this guy should be able to crawl through even the deepest muck with ease.
i mean if the master combat medic gets +10 then at the very least the commando should get +10...more i think
Good Call,
I say instead of unarmed, it should be exploration that the comando needs as a pre-req

yeah, that's a wonderful idea, make all the commando reqs contained entirely in the BH reqs.
I dropped all of my scouting too. When i go on missions I try to go in the one direction that is somewhat flat, but its still a pain in the arse.
I think the whole terain management thing is BS anyway. Why put something into the game to burn skill points that simply makes hte game almost unbearable if you don't burn those skill points?
Oh yeah, its there to burn skill points. ![]()

What about everyone who has unarmed, but not exploration?Their grinding through unarmed would havebeen a complete waste.Would the exp be transfered to exploration? Or would they have tore-qualify for a profession they already have?I sortalike the idea of the pointsin commando skill boxes, but that kinda takes away the uniqueness of scout.
that wouldn't even effect scout at all. master scout gets +50 terrain navi. explore 3 gets +30. master combat medic get +10. so why should a commando have to pick up scouting just to be able to traverse rough terrain. after all that is only part of any sort of training in any combat related profession in the realworld. he may not be able to crawl from here to there in a hurry but he should be able to walk up hill with relative ease. if anything the size of the weapon being carried should affect land speed.
lol i thought this was going to be another thing about too much dammage or that. Anyways seems like a good idea to me, if a medic gets terain negotiation a so should we.
I will likely drop my exploration in scout (keep novice for harvesting probably good second income) when mounts come out, but i wont drop it till they are here and i can see the acuraccy froman animal'sback, if we are crap when moving at normal speed with acuracy imagine burst running speed.

Of course it wouldn't affect scout directly, but I don't think they'd be too happy aboutsomeone getting the same skills as them, butas a by-product ofa differentprofession.
Personally I think the entire exploration pointsystem is FUBAR. This might sound stupid, but shouldn't your speed going up hills have to do with how many hills you climb, not how many hide you can harvest? If I walk from one side of correlia to the other, and someone else never goes beyond 500M of coronet, butharvests a thousand butterflies, he gets the speed on hills!? What? But of course, like I said before it'd be pretty hardto implement something like this.
it should be relatively easy to implement a system where you are slowed based on the size of the weapon or load you are carrying. someone carrying a t21 shouldn't be able to move at the same rate as someone with a fwg5 equipped.
but as far as the scout thing goes i have big doubts that too many will be too peeved by others getting a piece of their tree...considering most folks only take the novice scout tree just to get to explore 3 or one of the elite professions.
going back to something that was said earlier...removing unarmed would probably be a bad idea...and here is why...any soldier going through basic training is taught simple judo tactics and unarmed strikes to help them disarm or gain an upper hand on an enemy if a weapon fails or if they come in close proximity. then when a soldier goes in for more advanced training....ie ranger or seal school they are taught more deadly unarmed tactics or even knife tactics. so i see this as a valid tree for the commando. he is supposed to be the most skilled (trained) fighter in the game. herego he would have been trained in all the basic stuff (novice marksman tree) and the unarmed stuff as well as basic (and i mean very basic) survival and explore tactics. i'm not saying commandos should get survival 4 but they should get a little 1 man camp or something. they were trained to kill and to survive on their own in the wild.
so while i don't feel that the commando needs to be a master brawler/scout/marksman...i do feel that his tree(an elite profession!) should incorprorate some of the lesser survival skills. lets think rambo and arnold here unless like me you were in the military and know where i am coming from. rambo and arnold could havefashioned a small hut and dug up some grubs to eat or patched up a small and i mean small wound until they could get in to see a doc. if you want this to be a ROLE playing game and you want this to be as close to real as it gets then the commando should be the most ultimate trained soldier there can be.
as far as bh goes...i am not counting him out. he should be skilled as well, but bh's wouldn't have been trained the same as a commando. their training would have been more like from father to son, or rogue military training, etc. they would have plenty of skills....just not as refined as a commando.
i'm not a commando....yet. but this is something that i would feel very strongly about. the professions need to be fixed. there are too many missing skills and there is too much reliance on pets and other novice professions to make any one skill tree usefull. bounty hunters and commandos shouldn't be running around worried about needing the skill pts to control a pet or to have novice medic. they should have been trained in their years to deal with minor wounds....and they should be enough of a threat that they shouldn't need pets to be menacing. i was once a squad leader in game and was so put off by the junk offered in the tree and the fact that none of the available "junk" even worked. lets get to crackin and clean up these professions. to note IMO squad leader should just sorta flow from commando. if someone is a commando they could have been trained to be a squad leader. but thats another topic alltogether.
